Assessing the spiritual needs of patients is one of the most crucial aspects of nursing care delivery as it guarantees patient´s dignity and ensures efficient, holistic care in health care settings. Nurses often use the spiritual assessment tool by interviewing the patients to identify their spiritual needs, which further helps them to plan their nursing care appropriately. Accordingly, the spiritual assessment tool was used to assess the spiritual needs of a Hispanic patient and during the analysis it was discovered that the patient connected his entire health outcomes to his religious beliefs.

For instance, the interview can be done at the beginning of the admission, which will definitely allow to have more time and facilitate the process, as well as assisting to identity and incorporate the patient’s spiritual needs early in his plan of care, allowing the nurses to understand and become more sensitive to the patient’s spirituality from the very beginning. In this consideration, addressing the patient’s religiousness early in his treatment plan, will facilitate and speed up his recovery.
Spiritual Experiences
During the interview process, the patient influenced the author to become actively involved in religion, which increase the value of health regardless of its status. For example, answering the final question, the patient recognized that even though he was still coping with the reality of losing a finger, he was confident that God would help him overcome challenges that would be connected to it. LaRocca-Pitts (2012) asserts that religion guarantees hope to the patients, which was true in this case. Consequently, at the end of the interview, the author was touched to embrace religion fully.

The FAITH tool can facilitate in identifying the religious affiliation and its effect on the health status of the patient. The nurse should consider appropriate time to utilize this tool to avoid any challenges during the interview process.
