In his influential and informative speech “How to Speak So That People Want to Listen”, Julian Treasure describes how to speak powerfully so that other people can be attentive to the speaker. In his speech, Julian points out 7 habits which can negatively impact any speech. These 7 habits are mentioned below:
Gossip – Gossiping is “Speaking ill of somebody who's not present.” Talking unnecessarily about people can damage the credibility of the speaker.
Judging – Judging is forming an opinion about a person. If a person is cautious about being judged, he cannot concentrate to listen to others.
Negativity – Negativity refers to pessimism. A pessimist cannot have an effective and enthusiastic listener.

I – Integrity – walking the talk. Actually following what you say.
L – Love – becoming well-wisher of people.
Additionally, the speaker suggests to maximize the use of the vocal cords. The first is register, which is to associate depth with power and the authority with the voice. The second is timbre, which is to associate warmth in your tone. Next is the association of pattern of stress and intonation in voice – which is known as prosody. The fourth is pace, which is the adjustment of the speed of speech according to the situation. For example, excitement can be expressed by speaking quickly and speaking slow means to emphasize the speech. Silence is also necessary while speaking. Next is pitch which is the degree of lowness and highness of a tone. For example, high pitch refers anger and quickness. Whereas, low pitch refers softness. Last is volume which the loudness of a sound.
Moreover, he shows six vocal warm-up exercises to be done before any important speech. These are deep breathing, changing pitch, moving lips and tongue.
