History
Founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, former Tesla motors and PayPal founder, SpaceX is the first commercial space company, giving way for a new era of commercial space travel. More than 3000 employees are working there; from astronauts and engineers to accountants and software developers. It is incredible how this company grew.

The intention for launching the company was Musk’s lifelong passion, reaching space. After unsuccessfully trying to buy a rocket in Russia, he decided to establish his own company: SpaceX. He put 100 million dollars of his fortune to start the company. One of the key elements of success for SpaceX is their centralized engineering. All parts of the rockets are built in the company´s headquarters, instead of producing parts in different locations.

SpaceX has always been a very avant-garde company; which is no surprise knowing the likes of its CEO, billionaire extraordinaire Elon Musk. Even with all the bells and whistles, Space X has never been able to get an absolute dominion of the space and space-related market and as stated above has some serious competition; the first and most crucial competitor that comes to mind is Orbital Sciences Corp. out of Virginia in the United States. Orbital Sciences has sent rockets to its sector of the international space station and has by no means stayed behind, with several examples such as the Cygnus cargo ship which contained significant cargo such as dummies and smart sensors. Another recent competitor of SpaceX is Boeing. The commercial aircraft giant just recently won a grant shared with SpaceX to be a leading partner in launching a commercial crew to the international space station by 2017.
