Soror Ethel Hedgeman Lyle is considered our utmost visionary leader and one of the 16 founders of our beloved sorority. Her vision, was to create an organization for college aged women to build a sisterhood and serve the community. As we can see, her vision has created an international organization that continues to greatly impact the world. Visionary leadership turns a vision into reality. How does one begin to bestow their vision on to others?
Visionary leadership takes normal leadership to the next level. Leaders entail many qualities such as responsibility, respect, integrity, hard work, and more. Nevertheless, visionary leadership adds a revelation that can change not only our community but also our world. There must be action for the
vision to turn to veracity. In regards to our beloved sorority, the visionary leadership of our current members can continue the vision that Soror Ethel Hedgeman Lyle created. As time goes on, we as a society change. Although we must keep our solid foundation of traditions, visionary leadership must keep up with the times in order to move forward while maintaining our values. Without a vision for the future and leadership to go along with it, we would either lose touch of our values or not be in touch with the world around us. As for school, visionary leadership is necessary for us to be prosperous. Having clear goals, communicating those goals and having a process for those goals is all essential to our opulence. As sorors at our universities, visionary leadership can aid us in creating a positive environment to promote our focus and help us with our continued progression. As undergraduate sorors, we represent not only the sorority but also our university. We have a responsibility to serve our campus and its surrounding community. With visionary leadership, sorors can influence and inspire the growth we desire. Service is one of the most important values of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Serving our community can be accomplished in many ways. This service can affect communities in different ways. In order to accomplish any of this, we must promote our vision. With visionary leadership, sorors can develop strategic plans to move our platforms toward action in serving our communities. With this, we are also collectively serving our society. Visionary leadership continues to create new forces keeping us on track with movement. Sisterhood and service. The two qualities of alpha kappa alpha that drive our sorority to influence the world around us. With visionary leadership, the next generation of leaders will be able to propel the sorority in an upward direction. Our sorority will influence our universities, communities, and society as a whole. Without the visionary leadership of our founders, our sorority would not be where it is today.

A woman named Ruth Wakefield discovered this delicious treat and from then on, everyone came to know it as the famous chocolate chip cookie. In fact, the chocolate chip cookie is one of America’s favorite cookies. Ruth Wakefield was an amazing and very lucky baker.
5-Anna Arnold Hedgeman-Born on July 5,1899 in Marshalltown,Iowa, Anna Arnold was a political activist and educator. As a kid,her family was the only family that lived in the Anoka,Minnesoda community. She learned how to read and write at home and didnt attend school untill the age of seven. After high school,she attened Hamline University in St. Paul,Minnesoda. She graduated with a Bachlor`s degree in English. She was the first african american to recieve this degree at this university. While she was in college,she heard Dr.W.E.B DuBois give a speech that made her want to become a teacher. After she graduated from college,she accepted a teaching job at Rust College in Holly Springs,Mississipi and taught english and history for two years. While in Missippi,she experienced racial segregation and discrimination for the first time,witch motivated her to join the civil rights movement.
The way a leader is defined and remembered is not only through his actions and accolades, his followers and the leaders he developed also go into a leader’s legacy. Much like a legendary football coach, whose coaching tree goes on to do great things, I desire to join an organization that not only assist in my development as a leader, but also facilitate in the development of others as well. How could I contribute to the development of leaders? My largest contribution will come from my experience of being the United States military, where I was not only trained how to become an efficient leader, I was also taught on how to facilitate the growth and development of others leaders as well. I am able to accurately assess and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of an individual and assist in the development of a plan of action to address these areas. One of my personal beliefs is that vast knowledge is useless unless it is passed down to someone. With that being said I take every opportunity possible to share any knowledge that has helped me along the way.
The real person who has made an impact on not only myself, but a great deal of people in the community over quite a few years is Ms. Barbara Neiman of Brockton Avenue Elementary School. Working in different fields over the course of her life, Ms. Neiman has had to convert to various styles of leadership. Since she has had to alter the ways in which she leads, I selected pieces from three different practices that I believe best fit her: The Path-Goal Theory, Servant Leadership, and a little bit from the Behavioral Approach.
Transformational leaders exhibit personal and professional qualities that other want to emulate and follow. These leaders advance the mission in combative environments. Transformational leaders propel the growth of the team through communication. Finally, transformational leaders leave a legacy that instills pride, moral, and determination for future success.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
To inspire and influence others, a leader must possess many skills and abilities. As motivational speaker Peter Northouse, states, “a leader should be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant” (Northouse, 2013) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than leading.
Inspire a Shared Vision- leaders believe that they can make a difference in getting others excited and drafting them into their dream and the future possibilities.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
The practices of a leader can have wide spread implications. They can impact individual stakeholders and the organization as a whole. Clark (2013) states that “you must be the role model you want others to grow into” (para. 9). A strong leader leads by example, is ethical, and earns the trust and respect of their followers. They are also conscientious of the impact they have on the world around them. They practice impeccable communication and learn to inspire others with a positive vision for the future. Clark (2014) describes leadership as the methods of influencing others to accomplish objectives in a collective manner in the direction of the organization's vision.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...

There have been individuals that have achieved great success and accomplishments through inspiring others to believe and follow their leadership. This paper will explain some of the theories that philosophically explain how those great people inspired others to believe in their vision and goals.
Leaders: leaders are there to inspire and motivate during unpredictable and constant pressures, by enhancing quality and spirit of the followers who provide care for people who are in need. It is a Art, Science and pratice that is ever evolving to meet the needs of changing purpose and demand of crisis and prosperity with integrity while being result driven.
A leader is a person who creates vision, goals, and influences others to share that vision and work towards achieving those goals. According to Bennis and Nanus (1985), Leadership is the process of providing direction, energizing others and obtaining their voluntary commitment to the leader’s vision. A vision is an articulated image of the future that projects purpose, direction and priorities.
