Sodom and Gomorrah: Pick and Choose

Sodom and Gomorrah are only one example, throughout time that has been associated with one word or sentence taken out of context to equal the meaning.

"Sodom and Gomorrah have become symbols of human wickedness especially associated with Homosexuality and Sodomy".(Green) Even though Sodom and Gomorrah were in fact destroyed by God for “all of their wickedness”(Walvoord and Zuck 60) and "not even ten righteous people could be found" ”(Walvoord and Zuck 60) in those cities. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for there sins against God. In the book of Genesis the only reason given for those cities destruction is “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because there sin is Grave.”(Genesis 18:22)

In daylightatheism.org the book of Ezekiel states a few of Sodom’s sins:”Pride, fullness of food, abundance of idleness: neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.”(Ezekiel 16:49-50) These are the reasons Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed. Homosexuality or better yet Rape was one of the sins of Sodom. When God sent his two Angels to Sodom to warn Lot that Sodom was to be destroyed the Angels stated to Lot they would sleep in the square. Lot insisted that they stay with him. After the Angels were in Lot’s home the men of Sodom came to Lot’s home “they called to Lot and said to him, where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”(NKJV Genesis 19:5) Here is where the homosexual, sodomy stigma comes from; this one statement. Should this not be associated just as much with rape for that is what the men of Sodom intended to do!

Keep in mind that Lot truly did not wish to leave Sodom; he made a good living there for himself and his family. Lot knew of the sin...
