According to Harvard University School of Public Health, a typical 20 oz soda contains 65 grams of sugar, which translates to 15 to 18 teaspoons of sugar. This becomes relevant to us and largely our society because most of us know at least one person who consumes soda on a daily basis. This puts them at risk of developing major health complications. Recognizing and spreading awareness for these risks are important to me because I am currently working toward a degree in dietetics and nutrition with the ultimate goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian. Today I would like to convince you to cut soda intake due to various dangers associated with the regular consumption of soda. Those dangers include suspicious ingredients, dehydration, and higher chances of disease and major health complications. …show more content…
Artificial sweeteners are much sweeter than natural sugars. Aspartame is shown to be 200 times sweeter than sucrose. According to Harvard University School of Public Health, regular consumption of artificial sweeteners cause an overstimulation in sugar receptors. This becomes problematic because things like fruit are no longer sweet enough. People begin to find vegetables as bland and undesirable. Caramel coloring is another suspicious ingredient that soft drink companies use. Caramel is made by heating up a few ingredients, such as milk and sugar. Caramel coloring is completely different though. According to a study by Amprior Chronicle, caramel coloring is made with ammonia and sulfates which result in a 4-methylimidazole. 4-methylimidazole is a known carcinogen to animals with the potential of being carcinogenic to humans as well. 12 sodas were found to be in excess of the 4-methylimidazole daily

Aspartame can cause neurological effects that are hazardous to humans. Aspartame is metabolized into 50 percent phenylalanine, 40 percent aspartic acid, and 10 percent methanol (Maher and Wurtman). The main problem lies in the lone amino acid. Phenylalanine is a vital amino acid, but it is also a “neurotoxin”—a molecule that causes adverse effects in the brain. Increased phenylalanine levels in the brain can repress enzymes required to make certain neurotransmitters which results in drastic consequences. For instance, phenylalanine can repress enzymes needed to make serotonin neurotransmitters, and if these neurotransmitters are not created, the organism can suffer neurological problems such as depression, anxiety, and seizures. Results from a study by Timothy J. Maher and Richard J. Wurtman show that 50 percent of lab rats went into convulsions after being dosed with 250 milligrams per kilogram of aspartame. One can of diet soda usually contains only 50 milligrams per kilogram of asp...
According to The World Health Organization, “Obesity is the imbalance between declining energy expenditure due to physical inactivity and high energy in the diet (excess calories whether from sugar, starches or fat) …. Increasing physical activity, in addition to reducing intakes of food high in fat and foods and drinks high in sugars, can prevent unhealthy weight gain” (Who). The World Health Organization has recognized that soda and other sugary drinks a...
We are all aware of sugar, the sweet delicious substance commonly used in food and beverages, but table sugar is not the only sugar there is. There are many artificial sugars that many people now-a-days aren’t aware of. In this research paper I will be identifying four different types of synthetic sugars which are: Saccharin, Aspartame, Sucralose, and Sodium cyclamate. Synthetic sugars, or artificial sweeteners, have both positive and negative effects that can either make a big impact in our body or a small impact. Synthetic sugars can be used in many ways but are most commonly used in regular everyday foods and beverages or they can be mixed with other artificial sweeteners. Synthetic sugars tend to look very similar to real sugar so sometimes it may be hard to distinguish them with the naked eye.
Lately there’s been alot of controversy surrounding energy drink. Why are teens drinking them? Why are they considered unhealthy? What are the bad effects? Today, i’m going to tell you. Energy drinks have been around since the 80s, when the first one was released. The amount of drinks sold only begins to grow, with a majority being purchased by teens. Energy drinks are unhealthy because of the high caffeine levels and can cause addiction to caffeine. Teens are drinking them because they want what what is promised, energy.
Today I decided to tackle an issue that causes me so much stress, anxiety, and tension in my life, pooping at Starbucks. I don't like pooping at public spaces and pooping at Starbucks is stressful.
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Economists from Emory University declare that soft drinks do not have a big impact on weight. The reason is that when untaxed, soft drinks only represent 7% of a soda drinker’s calorie intake.
The phrase “pick your poison,” a common English idiom, refers to one choosing between two horrid options or the choice of an alcoholic beverage. The repercussions of sugary drinks and energy drinks should also be transposed into the hyperbolic definition as a “pick of poison.” Some of the most common ingredients in sugary/energy drinks have been known to cause heart and thyroid problems; weaken the immune system; cause dizziness, headaches, and drowsiness; damage the reproductive system, leading to infertility; and a myriad more. Stress, anxiety, and sleeping problems are some of the top complaints college age energy drink users complain about (Stasio et al.). Sugary/energy drinks are prominent in students, both high school and college age. Ninety percent of these users are blind to the “hazardous effects” of the drinks that they consume (Attila and Cakir), innocently poisoning their bodies. Students need to be better educated on the risks of their decisions to consume these toxic beverages in order to prevent health problems and to encourage more nutritious lifestyles.
First I would talk about the relation between energy drinks and anxiety, second I will talk about how it takes your organs and lastly I would talk about how it affects your wallet.

The major ethical issue face by Coca Cola in recent year was concerning sale of hazardous product which affected the health of few consumers including school children. This incident took place in Belgium where Coca Cola beverages found themselves in middle of an accusation of selling poorly processed batch of carbonated drinks which made initially 10 people ill and later the number swelled to 100 which also included school children. This was a contamination scare incident that took place in June 1999. This damaged Coca Cola customer base harming their confidence in the product as it was relating to the production and sale of hazardous product. Two main problems that were identified by the company relating to their production and distribution were ‘‘Off-quality’’ carbon dioxide that affected the taste and odor of some bottled drinks, and an offensive unusual odor on the outside of some canned drinks which were later identified as sulphur odor. This odor has an increasing intensity when the cans were placed in vending machines to sell.
Many years ago, there was an Emperor, who was so excessively fond of new clothes, that he spent all his money in dress. He did not trouble himself in the least about his soldiers; nor did he care to go either to the theatre or the chase, except for the opportunities then afforded him for displaying his new clothes. He had a different suit for each hour of the day; and as of any other king or emperor, one is accustomed to say, "he is sitting in council," it was always said of him, "The Emperor is sitting in his wardrobe." Time passed merrily in the large town which was his capital; strangers arrived every day at the court. One day, two rogues, calling themselves weavers, made their appearance.

Persuasion is a part of our everyday life. Whether we are persuading our mother, using persuasion through speech, or through advertisements, we are using rhetoric strategies to get the response we desire. With the help of minor details in many advertisements, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos are a way of persuading the audience to buy or think a certain way. A Colgate toothbrush commercial used Logos, Pathos and Ethos to spread the word that they have the best toothbrush of all, in which they target everyone who has teeth. Through the use of advertisements, Colgate has convinced the world that they have the best toothbrushes, they’re even recommended by dentists.
Have you ever thought how much soda you consume and how bad it can be for you? Many people will drink soda instead of water, simply because it tastes better. The government should limit the intake of sugary beverages because it can lead to many different problems such as heart disease, obesity, and overall it is an unhealthy life-style. “The average person consumes almost 100lbs of sugar a year, with the single biggest source being soda.” A sugary beverage occasionally would be ok, but drinking it every day would cause problems for you overtime. People drink, more soda than they do water. People should be consuming at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day. Mostly no one will drink that amount of water a day. In today’s society, it can be easy to grab a soda for one dollar and carry on. They may taste better but they are not better for your health. “Sugary drinks include soda, fruit punch, lemonade, and other “aides” sweetened powdered drinks, and sports energy drinks.”
