The extrinsic factors I will look for in my future career are financial bonuses, sick time, vacation time, and praise. What I can live without are trips and a corner office with a window.

Interviewing and research skills are needed within the social work profession. Effective communication skills are one of the most crucial components of a social worker’s job. Every day, social workers must communicate with clients to gain information, convey critical information and make important decisions (Zeiger, 2017). This interview experience was an opportunity to explore the daily challenges and rewards of a licensed social worker. I was excited for the opportunity to interview a social worker in the gerontology sector as this is a specialty I am considering. This meeting allowed me to explore the educational steps of being a social worker, practices of the agency, the clients who are served, and the challenges the agency has.
Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. Your career shapes a huge portion of your life. It is what you do every day, for a large portion of your life. It is what I have prepared for the past 12 or so years of my life. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.
1. What is the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation? How do these types of motivation influence an individual’s ability to be successful?
In order to gain the utmost from educational pursuits, a person must be able to assess his or her skills, interests, personality, and work values to determine which career field will be suitable. All of these attributes are important in discovering the best fit for a career that will provide the most job satisfaction. A person should utilize career evaluation tools to objectively evaluate his or her skills and attributes in order to determine the occupation that will work the best. The key to a successful a successful career is integrating an individual’s skills, education, personality, and work values with the intention of discovering the best field of work for that individual.
A category for job satisfaction is the motivators/satisfiers. Factors such as recognition, responsibility meaningful and interesting work, opportunities for advancement, and personal growth are desirable traits that employees look for. Whereas, hygiene factors are the causes for job dissatisfaction. They are based off of working conditions, relationships between co-workers, policies, supervisor behaviour, job security, wages and benefits.
If being committed to this profession, the style, interests and values, preparation, and work conditions still motivates the power and will to continue to work as much and as hard as possible, it will help in the future. All of these steps help figure out what the career has to bring for the rest of the years. The interest gets the attention or spark of motivation along with the style or drive for the choice of project. When choosing a career it is imperative to assess what is important to you in your personal life, and then decide what career will help achieve those personal goals. Some of the goals I have in my life will change, while others may stay the same. Many of those goals are tied to my career, which also helps draw interest in that particular career, while other goals may clash with that chosen career. The hard part is deciding what is most important, or how to achieve both goals even though it may be difficult.
Each individual’s career path is distinctive and depends upon the individual’s outlook, behavior, work experiences, and activities. The incentives associated with career development are universal and include increasing one’s earning potential and acquiring additional skills and abilities that are attractive to any organization. Training and development are important factors in helping individuals develop talent, motivation, and leadership skills that will contribute to a successful personal and professional career.

If the employees consider the conditions of work, there is extrinsic job satisfaction. For example, they are considering the salary, co-workers or supervisor.
