First, the death instinct, can also be described as inherent urge for violence. It states that this approach is occupied by the theories of evolution; by being aggressive, some members of species are able to survive, whereas those not being aggressive, will not be able to survive. Second, frustration-aggression hypothesis states that every frustration leads to some form of aggression, and every form of aggression is due to frustration. However, aggression can arise without frustration and that frustration doesn’t always cause aggression. It is possible that people can be aggressive if they have high level of frustration; if the frustration is arbitrary, unprovoked, or illegitimate. In another way, people will be less aggressive if their frustration is justifiable. Third, aversive emotional arousal hypothesis states that aggression is caused by negative emotions such as anger or discomfort. In a back-stage setting, people do not have to engage actively in efforts at impression management. Instead, they can relax, "be themselves," and do things they might not want members of the audience to see. Audience is the group of spectators at a public event, listeners or viewers. Self-presentation refers to the processes that individuals use to influence the impressions others have of them. Tactical self-presentation occurs when people try to create a public image of themselves that is consistent with what others want them to be. Ideal self-presentation occurs when individuals try to influence others to see themselves as they would like to be seen. In college, a college student in a classroom might use the tactical self-presentation method to try to portray a public image of themselves that coincides with the social expectation. Another example could be, a student among friends may display the ideal self-presentation method to try to be seen by others the way the individual wants to be seen; possibility of wearing the newest fashions to be seen as a trendy

Aggression is subdivided into two categories: affective and predatory aggression. Affective aggression usually involves high levels of physiological arousal within the individual and takes place when fighting for a mate or social status, such as when a gang uses violence to intimidate other rivals within their neighborhood. Predatory aggression involves low stimulation levels and is done in a methodical manner that involves stalking and meticulous planning.
One of the most researched topics in the history of psychology is aggression. One goal of social scientists has been to define aggression. Some believe that aggression is biologically preprogrammed, others look toward situational factors and this study suggests that aggression is learned. This study was conducted by Albert Bandura and his associates in 1961 at Stanford University. The researchers proposed that the children be exposed to adult models with either aggressive or nonaggressive ways, they would then be tested without the models present to determine if they would imitate that aggression they observed in the adult.
Aggression is defined as any behavior intended to harm another person who is motivated to avoid the harm according to Baumeister & Bushman (2014). A study was conducted in 1967 by Leonard Berkowitz and Anthony LePage, to determine whether the presence of weapons would elicit aggressive behavior from an individual (Baumeister & Bushman, 2014). They hypothesized that participants were likely to associate weapons, particularly firearms, to aggression and violence, which would cause observing a weapon to elicit an aggressive response. The psychoanalytic perspective (Erikson’s psychosocial stages), Sigmund Freud Ego or psychological defense mechanism, and behaviorism and social learning theory, are important to understanding adolescent bullying. In the psychoanalytic approach, development is discontinuous and as such occurs in stages where “people move through a series of stages in which they confront conflicts between biological drives and social expectations, and how these conflicts are resolved depends on the person’s ability to learn, to cope with others and cope with stress” (Berk 2010, p.15). According to Sigmund Freud from this theory, individuals use a mechanism called psychological defense mechanisms which when they feel an overpowering anxiety, the ego employs to protect themselves against unwanted, scary feelings or weaknesses within their psyche or consciousness.
