These have become evident with the overall popularity of social networking growing along with the new forms that social networking is taking. For example, Instagram is a fairly new social networking site that was not available for use prior to 2010. Whereas sites like Facebook have been around longer. With the advancements in technology the way people access social networking sites has changed over time, causing, yet again more advantages and disadvantages. For example social networking can serve as a tool for bullies. In fact, “800,000 minors were harassed or cyberbullied on Facebook according to a June 2012 Consumer’s Report survey”. In this survey ONLY one social networking facilitated 800,000 minors to be bullied, but there are many other popular websites like Facebook and adults can get cyberbullied, too. Another negative use of social networking is to cheat school assignments. An example of this is how some “students in California, New York City, and Houston posted photos of standardized tests to social media sites, allowing students who had not yet taken the tests to see the questions (and potentially find answers) ahead of time”. Along with this, social networking can also endanger the military and journalists. “Checking in” on social networking sites like Facebook can give away sensitive information, like the location, of certain military personnel.
