The reason overstimulation should carefully be examined is because technology has revolutionized society through global communication and connection. The article states, “Communication is the foundation for social interaction and therefore society itself is based on communication” (Rodriguez et al. 1). From now on social media and technology will continue to grow and be even more involved in our daily lives increasing overstimulation through constant interaction. Society revolves around communication so, when it is enhanced the world is revolutionized. With many ways to access social media it allows for constant exposure to information “that contribute to a general communication overload as individuals are bombarded simultaneously with information from multiple electronic channels, which has been associated with psychological distress” (Vannucci qtd.). An example of this overload would be having multiple social media apps on a smartphone such as notifications from Instagram and Snapchat will come at varying times, but the significance is having more than one source of information because “Pew Research Center found that 71% of teens use more than one social network” (Lenhart 1). that will enable more overstimulation because the person will be browsing multiple apps throughout the day. Is related to Robson’s article about overstimulation this correlating effect all point to overuse of social media and technology devices. Social media makes it seem that everything you read or see is beneficial because people think more information retained the better off they will be. However, that is where people are wrong constantly being exposed to information overstimulates the brain and then people constantly desire more information, which interferes with their activities and will lead to frustration because they cannot …show more content…

The Overstimulation becomes a necessity for users, they desire more information throughout the day however if you take that away it hurts their real world interactions because a person can only give so much information so, when people engage “in face-to-face interactions, they felt more distracted and reported lower enjoyment if they had been using their smartphones” (Dywer, Kushlev, Dunn). It would seem that having a smartphone would benefit a person and make them happier and it does in certain ways however, not using the device and social media shows its drawbacks and negative influence it has on people where it hurts their real-world interactions and people don’t notice it as the study above showed. Phone use has indirect negative effects from distraction which in result, predicted greater boredom and worse overall mood that was predicated from smartphone use because it will distract the person and affect their mood (Dywer, Kushlev, Dunn). Social interaction between people is affected by smartphone use where it “may undermine the emotional benefits people derive from social interactions” (1).
