Manifesto: Should we take a break from social media? Overtime, social media has slowly evolved to what we use technology for daily. Originally, created as a networking tool, it has molded its self into so much more. With different sites and apps for example Twitter, Face book, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc. you are easily occupied for hours on end and it can become addicting and overwhelming. There is a lot of time wasted on these platforms and the constant checking of status and notifications can literally drive you insane. Social Media does this by effecting the way we interact with others and I recommend going on a social media detox to solve this issue. It’s hard to believe that social media could become addicting and overwhelming but this …show more content…
It’s hard to describe how good that feels if you’ve never experienced it bu,t just know it’s very refreshing and relaxing. Social media really impacts the way we interact with people and I believe the break is essential for self-growth and one’s development. It can impact the way we interact by affecting your social skills, making verbal communication and human interaction hard. When using social media, the benefit is you don’t need it to communicate face to face or over the phone, it gives you a moment to think about what you would like to say before you say …show more content…
This is a hard commitment but once done you will feel like a burden has been lifted off your shoulders and find out taking a break is not that bad. First, we will begin with, stop checking it so often. I believe it’s hard to go cold turkey and just completely stop checking social media but I recommend just spending 15 mins a day on one social site of your choice. If you believe you have a strong enough willpower then just go ahead and delete all the social media apps on your phone and log out of all your social medias websites. Once this is done, you should attempt to keep yourself busy go to the gym, paint, cook, explore nature, read, or write. Doing something else will focus on you and get your mind off social
Topic: Addiction to social media General Purpose: To persuade Specific purpose: To persuade my audience that social media is hurting us mentally and our social lives. Thesis: Social media can cause serious problems to you and your health, so we need to put addiction to social media to rest. I. Introduction A. Attention-getter: The ages of 55 and 64 year olds who use social media fell “worried or uncomfortable” when they can’t access any type of social media accounts (Wright, 2015).
Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms have become one of the central activities in human affairs. Used by people around the world promoting communication, social media gives scope to everyone to exhibit their ideas and thoughts. The plethora of social platforms is a revolutionary invention that is changing the way of how people moderate and communicate with others in their daily lives. Although many people admire this revolutionary concept, it can be argued that it has a negative impact on society. Extensive usage of social media can cause addiction, affecting productivity, and also reduce the level of human interaction, which in turn leads to isolation. Social media is correlated to many of the issues that revolve feminism and mental illness through anthropology, sociology and psychology.
A lot of people think that social media is all positive, but it’s not. I believe that social media is a huge negative source in our lives. Many studies have shown that being on your phone or social media too much can actually lead to addiction or isolation to other people. I don’t understand why you would want to be on social media that much to where you would get addicted to it and not even want to
because of the increase in the time that is spent on social media it can cause terrible harms in destroying one’s social skills. An example of this is that if you spend all your time on social media just talking to random people you never met. It can cause social awkwardness to when it is time to talk face to face interaction with some one you do know. My perception of social media is that there are to many people spending to much of their time on social media. Rather than just spending time interacting with people face to face and gaining strong social

In today's world, we can access our social media through devices such as smartphones or tablets. With that in mind, it can be useful in keeping in touch with those around us. As people, we are born to be social, building companionship with others. Doing such can be socially connected to improving one's happiness, attitude, feelings of loneliness, and lifespan. However, since we surf and interact with social media with unlimited access around the clock, too much exposure can cause negative and unhealthy reactions.
In today's society, social media has become a powerful tool that captures people's interest and induces addiction. People use social media in their day-to-day lives for multiple hours. TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube are the main social media sites. People are also starting to realize that social media has negative consequences for their lives. Being on social media is detrimental and can diminish one's sociability.
To begin with, social media has been proven to be a dangerous addiction due to the many negative side effects like: sleep deprivation, and self-esteem problems. Most of the adult American population is connected to some sort of social media site, and they have joined the banned wagon of people whom check their social media accounts at least five times a day. Using social media to often can be time consuming and essentially causes sleep deprivation because the user stays up late on social media. Since social media has grown in popularity many have began to believe that social media is a life necessity. It is viewed by many as a daily necessity like brushing our teeth, or yet as important as eating. People whom are constantly on social media have been linked to develop self-esteem problems because they are so consumed on pretending and portraying this image of a person they are not. Social media has became such an addiction that many people wake up and the first thing they do is...
If you take some time off, maybe turn your cell phone off; I bet you you’re going to feel less stressed and a lot more relaxed. Take some time out of your day to get away from the madness of all those crazy computers and television sets. Instead of watching the X-Factor on TV, go outside and stroll your neighborhood. Instead of peeking at your phone every couple minutes, try to leave it alone for a bit. It’s always harder to quit something cold turkey, just limit yourself. Like all those experts say, you can always have a little bit of something, just in moderation.
Social media has become an extremely powerful and useful tool that enables people in a modern society to effortlessly interact and socialize with each other via the internet; however, there is an extremely dark and little known side of social media: addiction. Social media has the potential to become extremely addictive to its users. The addictive nature of social media may intensely interfere with users daily obligations in the real world, which may make a recovery process necessary in order to quell the powerful addiction.
Social Media has evolved magnificently since the first email sent in 1971. Social media is any form of website or application which enables us to share content with one another with a simple sharing tool. Social media has become an addiction for most, if you were to ask the average student if they were connected to a social networking site, about 73 percent would reply with a yes. Social media although a great tool can become an addiction ultimately affecting our lives and state of mind. That is why we need to limit the amount of time and information we share on social networks. Although the internet is a tool full of good and bad available to everyone, teenagers and young adults are more prone to falling into the traps of the internet. People also abuse social media and overuse it every day because they are concerned with what is happening every hour. Social media is a tool not a necessity and should never be abused or used as a diary because it could result in unwanted consequences that can hurt us in the future.
With the way the world is now it should not be a surprise to anyone that social media has literally taken over the world in this day and age. From late 2008 to early 2009 the size of Facebook users doubled from 100 million to 200 million in eight months, and was already up to 400 million by early 2010. Twitter also raised its number of users in 2009 from 4.5 million to 20 million (Zandt). These numbers just show what Facebook and Twitter have accomplished. Other social media sites that are getting more and more popular are Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, and many others social media websites that people use on a daily basis. With one in four people using social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, it is no wonder that all of these social media websites are considered to be important (Whiteman). With a few clicks of a button or taps on a screen, a person can be connected to family and friends in every corner of the world. Social media can even allow people to see what their favorite celebrities are doing with their lives. According to Honor Whiteman,”Social media defines an array of internet sites that enable people from all over the world to interact. This can be through discussion, photos, video and audio (Whiteman).” Social media is a beast in its own right that is used by a multitude of people all over the world everyday for things such as updating their Twitter status for personal use to updating a company 's Facebook page on a weekly basis. Yes, there is no doubt about it, social media has done its share of very good things, but there is also an entire list of the negative things about using these websites that can really make a person question if they should even be on them.
