In this day and age, toddlers are exposed to tablets, but overexposure to technology can implode the cognitive and social skills they need in life. Learning to become social and directly engage in human interaction can become difficult for those who choose technology and social media as the main choice of communication. Although chatting through social media such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook can be considered a form of communication, it can create a development barrier. For example, learning social cues, body language, and many more physical attributes. Mental Health In today's world, we can access our social media through devices such as smartphones or tablets. With that in mind, it can be useful in keeping in touch with those around us. As people, we are born to be social, building companionship with others. Doing such can be socially connected to improving one's happiness, attitude, feelings of loneliness, and lifespan. However, since we surf and interact with social media with unlimited access around the clock, too much exposure can cause negative and unhealthy reactions. Limiting social media use Although social media can affect one's mental health and social development, there are ways to improve and limit the negative impact. Reducing social media usage can lead to improvements in sleep quality, mental well-being, and feelings of loneliness. People actively need the face-to-face company of others to be happy and healthy. Although you can still be social through social media, setting aside time to interact offline with friends and family can be very healthy. If a person feels as if they don’t have many people in their lives to interact with physically and socially, reaching out to acquaintances can be a great starter in becoming more physically social. In addition, interacting with strangers can also contribute to improving social development, straying away from social media usage. Offline interactions are essential for universal social development Conclusion From the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed, social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter offer constant entertainment and connections to the world and the individuals around us.
