Snowboarding can be an energizing, invigorating experience and I think that everyone who likes skateboarding should give it a try. Snowboarding is very similar to skateboarding, the only differences are that you have to be strapped to the board and you need snow. The only type of equipment you need to snowboard is a snowboard and warm clothes. Snowboarding can be done at any ski resort and is growing in popularity.
On my nineteenth birthday I decided that I wanted to go to Peak-in-Peak ski resort. I called TJ, Scott, and Justin to invite them on this trip; they all accepted my invention to go. The fact that the three of them have skateboarded with me for a number of years I knew that they would be interested in learning to snowboard; what better time than this trip to do so. The ski resort that I had picked for the trip was in New York. Peak-in-Peak was perfect for all levels of snowboarding. I was most interested in the snowboard train park that was offered there.
February 22, 2001 we arrived at our condo that I had rented for our weekend of excitement. It was Friday at about 5:00pm, the Friday of my birthday. After checking in we were all eager to hit the slopes. We all got changed into our snowboard gear and set out for some fun. TJ and Justin caught on to the sport very quickly, after a couple of falls they were up and going down the hill. Scott took a little more time and instruction from me to pick up the art of going down the hill. After all the fun snowboarding we went back to the condo with some newfound friends and had a party. The party got a bit out of control at about 3:00am and the police were soon there to bust up the party. We all were issued under
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
I am now a professional snowboarder with my friends at Mammoth Mountain, the local resort, anxiously preparing for the X- Games slopestyle competition that is a few days away. The slopestyle competition that I am competing in is a snowboarding course that consists of rails and jumps that are
Interestingly enough, snowboarding was invented by Sherman Poppen in North Muskegon, Michigan, back in 1965. Nowadays, snowboarding is considered one of the most popular winter sports among teenagers. On the other hand, there are many people that don’t have the slightest idea how to ride a snowboard straight down a hill. There are four steps to learn the basic skills of snowboarding.
Many think that a stronger dress code will help students focus in school, but the way a student dresses does not determine a student’s willingness to learn or the teacher’s ability to capture the student’s attention. Also, adults argue that high school is a teenager’s job; therefore, they should dress professionally. However, Elizabeth Forward does not have a policy against sweatpants, sweatshirts, or athletic attire, which are much more unprofessional than tank tops or destroyed denim. I think that the dress code policies should be relaxed to a more lenient state given the temperature of the building throughout the school year, the change in long-term trends among teenagers, and the level of hypocrisy illustrated between the relationship of school’s administration and the dress code policy.
The undergraduates will not have to worry about wearing an ‘unattractive’ outfit. Parents and their children will not have to worry about the prices of clothing or buying as much, because they will already be wearing a pre-set outfit. Buying a set outfit that the school mandates mean that it will be much cheaper than normal outfits that students would normally buy. One student would not have a special treatment form faculty or friends because of the clothes they wear, because they are all the same
The argument whether uniforms should be implemented in school has been debated over the last few decades. By implementing a uniform policy within schools would help reduce the rise of violent crimes. In today’s high schools, too many innocent youths become fatalities due to gang warfare that has spread into the school system. Many parents feel that if a uniform policy was implemented , the spread of gang warfare and the idea that children have to have name brand clothing would decrease drastically. However others are worried that this policy would infringe on students First Amendment Rights with expressing themselves. Many parents are worried that the uniforms will cost too much and they will only burden their economic status. Uniforms will either give the school strength or separate the students and parents from the administration.
In conclusion, students shouldn’t be able to wear uniforms. Because they don’t matter to society , parents can’t afford uniforms , and uniforms don’t allow individuality. It doesn’t matter to society because there is no use. Secondly parents can’t afford uniform because they don’t have an high paying job. Many household families are only paid enough to pay bills and be able to feed their family at the same time. Finally uniforms aren’t able to express an individual’s personality because teens like to express their personality off, threw their clothing and the way they
Thin air encompasses me as I commence the final day of skiing at Vail, Colorado. Seven days of skiing elapse rather painlessly; I fall occasionally but an evening in the Jacuzzi soothes my minor aches. Closing time approaches on the final day of our trip as I prepare myself for the final run of the vacation. Fresh off the ski lift, I coast toward the junction of trails on the unoccupied expert face of the mountain. After a moment of thought, I confidently select a narrow trail so steep that only the entrance can be seen from my viewpoint.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
The world has put this pressure on our younger generation to wear name brands just so they could fit in. the stress of school work is hard enough and no child should have to worry about being made fun of just because he or she is not wearing name brand clothing. In the article “Should High School Students Wear Uniforms” Hardy a Board Certified Coach says that not only uniforms are expensive but “Parents may also have to endure the added expense of buying trendy teen clothing for functions outside of school” (Hardy). In large cities are known to have crime issues that involve kids and teens wanting more expensive clothes and that cause issues for others who are wearing them; this causes students to have to worry about those items getting either stolen of end up fighting other for their
Going to public schools all my life, I heard the gossip of "fashion" and "whose wearing what,"pretty much everyday; at least in the four years of high school where it seemed that looks mattered the most. As people grow up, the way they present themselves becomes more and more important. Leaving a good mark in high school means a lot to some people, and some are ready to do whatever it takes to make that mark, whether it be putting someone down for their clothing or being an individual and not caring what others think of you or what your wearing. Having friends from middle school that branched out and went the alternative route; private schools, one of the first things that came back to me from them was how much easier it was to having a uniform to wear to school. Going to a school where uniforms are strictly enforced can help to create a better learning environment. Having uniforms would call for a lot less distraction in the classroom, there would be much more time for homework and there would not be as many problems concerning the wear of inappropriate clothing to take away from school time. A quote from the essay, “The Achievement of Desire,” by Richard Rodriguez fits particularly well in this essay. “Get all the education you can, with an education you can do anything.” This just doesn’t seem like the main idea to many kids anymore and I think that uniforms would help to bring that thought back into a lot of our heads. I know that the idea of wearing a uniform repulses many people, but when broken down, school uniforms really do seem like the way to go.
Envision a high school student being tormented by what he is wearing, and this doesn’t happen once, instead it happens frequently. You see him become upset, letting his head face the ground, and somewhere inside of you, you feel the same pain that he is feeling. Students in high school are making rude comments about their peers’ clothing, whether it’s the scarf, the jacket, or the socks; they always have something to say. What better way to fix this situation than to arrange uniforms for high school students? The idea of uniforms should highly be considered in order to allow students to feel more confident while at school.
Inappropriate behavior referrals were reduced by 121 incidents (a 33% reduction)” (Sanchez 353). Given that, students are dressing in a respected manner causes them to act in respectful manner in result. An opponent of uniforms would say that uniforms do not solve the problem of discipline referrals within a school, because putting on a uniform will not change a child to not act out rebelliously. However, a study tested whether your attire affects one’s attitude, the results showed “it is evident that attire play a key role in individuals’ attitudes...regarding workplace outcomes” (Peluchette 48). Simply, the way the students dressed and presented themselves put them in an attitude to work instead of causing trouble.
Wearing school uniforms does not stop students from teasing and bullying. School uniforms cannot lessen the chances of bullying; In fact, this increases the problem of bullying. Although a student is wearing the same clothes their distinct personality will still stand out. Clothing serve as a primary source for violence and bullying. For example, a student name Dylan says, “School dress codes and uniforms sucks . I get bullied for it and my family is having huge problems paying for the clothes. This is the worst thing ever.” I However, strangers off the streets could buy uniforms to wear on campus to harm
Discipline is vital for schools to run smoothly. In a school environment students must obey their teacher’s rules and directions. Sometimes students may forget or misunderstand who the authority figures are at school. When a school establishes a uniform policy they are reinforcing who is in charge because these outfits set guidelines of expectations for each student. When students are properly dressed and have the tools needed to learn they are on the track to success because they are no longer distracted by their clothing. Some people may say that clothing do not make differences on the way someone acts, but in actuality they do. Professional clothing symbolize respect and seriousness. That is why this outfits are worn to funerals, work, job interviews, and church. (Arundel) Casual clothing gives off the impression that if they can wear whatever they want, they can als...
