Case Clothed: School Uniforms are a good thing
Uniforms are a part of adulthood so why not go ahead and start practicing a dress code in primary and secondary school? I remember being in high school and wearing school uniforms. It was nice to wake up in the morning and not having to think about what to wear. Every public school in Ohio should establish a standard school uniform policy because it strengthens discipline, it equalizes all children, and it would be easier on parents.
A standard school uniform policy should be made simple. There is no need for custom embroidered clothing with the school or students name on it. Students, parents, teachers, and other facility members know what school they are attending. A nice shoe, polo shirt, and khaki pants or skirt will get the job done just fine.
Discipline is vital for schools to run smoothly. In a school environment students must obey their teacher’s rules and directions. Sometimes students may forget or misunderstand who the authority figures are at school. When a school establishes a uniform policy they are reinforcing who is in charge because these outfits set guidelines of expectations for each student. When students are properly dressed and have the tools needed to learn they are on the track to success because they are no longer distracted by their clothing. Some people may say that clothing do not make differences on the way someone acts, but in actuality they do. Professional clothing symbolize respect and seriousness. Just like any other committee at school, students can elect a president, vice president, secretary, etc. Students can then have meetings with the school board to collaborate on options concerning school uniforms. Once there are two or three options to choose from the president of the student uniform council can hold a vote with the entire student body to make a final decision. By having a student uniform committee students will be able to help form a uniform that a majority of the student body will agree on.
Establishing a school uniform policy for all schools in Ohio can only be a positive thing. Discipline will be reestablished in schools. All students will be one step closer to being equal to one another and parents will be put to ease when the school year approaches every year.
