If there were to be a massive snow day Thursday, everyone would stay home from school and avoid driving on the streets. On this snow day, I would relax all day, and maybe if there would be enough snow, sledding! To relax I would most likely read and draw all day, with a movie here or there, along with a cup of hot cocoa by my side. I would also play with my cats, if they weren’t sleeping of course. Eventually though, I’d be itching to do something else, so I would put on a warm, cozy coat, hat, gloves, and boots and head outside to maybe take some photography photos, or if my sister wanted, go sledding. I would try not to cause a strife with my sister, but how would I be able to resist launching a snowball at her? Afterwards, I would come
“Winter Evening” by Archibald Lampman, and “Stories of Snow” by P.K Page are two poems describing the human experience of winter. Winter is seen, by some, to be blissful, magical and serene. Winter could also be described as pure and heavenly, with the white snow resembling clouds. However, others have a contrasting viewpoint; they paint winter in harsher light, giving the impression that winter is bitter and ruthless. Others still, have a mixed viewpoint and may recognize both the positives and negatives to the season.
As the lights flashed and the representatives walked down the red carpet the audience was awed by the sweet smiles and mature beauty that radiated off the couples. They respectfully encapsulated the love and Christian faith of our school as they all clapped for our homecoming king and queen. There surely was a reason they were voted representatives for they showcased sweet attitudes all night long, smiling, hugging, and enduring long periods of picture taking and never complaining. After the red carpet showing of our homecoming court everyone enjoyed delicious fruit punch and a couple slices of the cake all while talking and simply enjoying the beautiful decorations and hollywood themed atmosphere. When the mood shifted and Winter Formal began
Settlers maintained their crops and livestock, but while doing so the temperature drops past the freezing point. Children were attending school when the blizzard started to make its way toward the prairie. Unprepared with the proper clothing to at least have a fighting chance to stay warm during the frigid temperatures. These children were without over coats to keep warm, in one situation with two sisters Eda and Matilda, the author wrote “the older sister Eda took off her wrap to cover the younger sister.” (Laskin, 46) Times were very different then they are today, where heavier clothing are required and more available may not have been accessible to the settlers of that time. It was understood that so many children died with only a blanket of some sort, while walking against the heavy winds that was strong enough to rip it from the shoulders of the children. Many of these settlers died because of not dressing for the weather, or not having the resources to make or buy the
I have been to a place that has lots of interesting snow and others. It is Lake Tahoe. It is a place that I will never get bored of that it has a lot of snow! Mostly you could do anything with snow. But most of all, beating your older brother up in a snowball fight. I really loved when each time I went down the big mountain. It was really amazing. I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
Life was brutal and deadly for the the Continental Army who were at the dreadful winter at Valley Forge. Winter at Valley Forge is a turning point because it was a place of death and diseases which were spreading at a super fast pace. The men of the Army suffered badly from the cold and had nearly nothing to eat or wear. But the troops didn’t quit, they worked harder and harder which made the Winter at Valley Forge a turning point of the Revolutionary War.
In July this year, I travelled to Queenstown for a family vacation. It was my first time in the snow and I tried out snowboarding. Those of you who have been snowboarding before would know that the majority of the first day is spent face down in the snow. It was freezing, wet and challenging but I did not want to give up.
An interesting new learning topic, based on science, would be learning about snow and what it truly is. Especially in a place like Colorado, snow is not unheard of and many people do not know what it truly is even if they are accustomed to it. Snow is common, people step on it and don’t react to it much if it is falling from the sky either, but why aren’t people alarmed that white flakes are falling from the sky? Snow is a mystery to many but it is just another element that doesn’t seem to have an impact on the human body other than being cold, so what is snow, how is it formed, and what is the difference between rain and snow?
Most likely, I would do the same action that the 1888 New Yorkers did, in camping out in hotel lobbies, and waiting for the snow blizzard to pass because as long as I have food, water, warm clothes, and shelter, I’m okay. It’s called “survival of the fittest,” in which as long as I have these basic essentials, I would be able to make it through this time. In all honestly, I would feel like a bear in a hibernation period because I would be asleep through it all, and wake up when it’s all
Starting on January 4th in 1998, parts of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec were hit by 3 successive storm fronts. The ice storm was caused when a low-pressure warm front from Texas and a high-pressure Arctic cold front were moving in at the same time. The total precipitation fell as freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow. The freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow exceeded 73mm in Kingston, 85mm in Ottawa, and 100mm south of Montreal. The ice storm lasted until January 10th, 1998 and until now, the ice storm of 1998 is called the greatest natural disaster in Canadian history.
If the s’mores don’t fill you up enough you can always got to the Sno Deck and grab your favorite snacks. It would be so fun to play in the fluffy white snow for a whole day with your closest friends. Overall, Snow mountain would be the perfect place to visit in view of not having much snow yearly.
When I saw the snow, I had so many feelings inside of me. I could barely speak or breathe. I was feeling so excited about the snow that I had to jump around the house and scream. While I was getting out of bed, I had so much energy! I was extremely energetic and the only way to let it out was to get out and have lots of snow day fun! When I started to get on my warm winter gear, I was curious about what I was going to do when I got outside? Man I can barely wait to start this day! I feel like I might explode with all the amazing things I can do today.
The United States has become increasingly dependent on its road system to enable the reliable movement of an ever growing amount of people, goods and services (EPA). Despite the inevitability of inclement weather, Americans expect these systems to be maintained in order to allow for safe travel (EPA). Every year in the northeastern United States, municipalities are forced to find solutions to the myriad of problems presented by the accumulation of snow and ice on their roadways and bridges.
The neighborhood soon filled with children excited over the freshly fallen snow. Since all of the schools were closed, the children were assured of enjoyment for several days. The sounds of the winter snowstorm were echoing throughout the town, from the snowplows in the distance, to the scraping of snow shovels that sounded like fingernails scratching a chalkboard. Neighbors were shoveling snow that had accumulated on their sidewalks and driveways. The snow that was predicted to be several inches by the end of the weekend quickly piled up to around eight inches by that evening.
Snow days are always great, but they also come with positives and negatives. The positive side to having a snow day includes sleeping in, catching up on work, having a home-cooked meal, and playing in the snow. Hear are examples of my positive side of an snow day. I enjoyed sleeping in until 10 p.m., EST time, and not having to wake up to the sounds of breaking glass. After I showered and dressed, I started to catch up on my homework, so I can come to class fully prepared. The best part of a snow day, is playing in the snow; for example, snowball fights, sliding on ice, building a snowman or fort, and taking lots of pictures in the snow. At end of the day, me and my roomate, Debra-Joe, decided to cook smothered grilled chicken with cheese and
Infinite interpretations plague Ernest Hemingway’s “Cross Country Snow.” From the belief that Nick is “reluctant to take on the responsibilities and restrictions of fatherhood” and that “the descriptions of skiing… describe the act of making love” (Edenfield) to the argument that the Swiss woodcutters symbolize Nick’s desire to avoid paying for his mistakes (Pfeiffer and Konig), no two scholars can seem to agree. However, I believe that “Cross Country Snow” illustrates Nick’s desire for freedom and eventual acceptance of parental duties, and his forfeiting the life he wants. Notably, Nick’s passion for skiing portrays his desire for freedom throughout the story.
