All of the sudden, I had lost all control over the car; and from there, it was all downhill. I’m not sure anyone ever thinks some events will ever happen to them -- until it does. It was a snow day, but I had a package that had just come in the mail. To get my package I had to persuade my mom, I did! I was now on my way but had to go slow due to the icy roads. I’m not sure how it happened or why; but on my way to get the package, it never occurred that this wasn’t a good idea at all: I never made it all the way there due to the wreck. Although it was a snow day, I still wanted to go get my package. I had just found that I had a package in the mail and wanted to go get it. The package was a new necklace for my mom, and I didn’t think it would be in before Christmas; but it was! The necklace had a silver chain with an infinity sign and a cross going through the infinity sign. Undoubtedly, I should have waited to go, but this was important to me and I had to have it then and there. Beside, how lucky was I? I mean, the package arrived early, and Christmas was in a few days. I was super …show more content…
The roads were super icy, and it was super cold: the reasons we had a snow day. A bus can’t exactly drive on icy roads and when it reaches a certain temperature outside we are not supposed to go outside and cannot have school that day. To begin, I had never driven on icy roads before this day: It was my first time. I had driven during the previous winter, but this was my first time on ice. Second, I got my mom to let me go, but she said, “You have to bring your little brother brother with and no speeding.” My mom does this so she knows I won’t speed while driving. Even though I’m usually a safe driver; there are times that I like to go fast and my mom knows that. After I began driving, I could feel that the roads were nothing but ice and went super slow; but that didn’t help in the
In "First Day of Winter," by Breece D’J Pancake stories, “First Day of Winter” is the twelfth and the last selection of them. The story is about the edgy circumstances of a West Virginia farmer called Hollis. A single man as yet still living on the farm of his family, Hollis battles to make ends meet as he watches over his weak parents. His decrepit mother declines to bathe, "her mind half gone from blood too thick in her veins;" on the other hand, his dad, "now coughing and blind," is "bent with age, with crying" (163, 168). The only sibling of Hollis, Jake, has left the homestead, wedded, fathered two youngsters and turn into a minister. Due to this Hollis’s parents hover over him and persistently remind him that his sibling "has done fine
“Winter Evening” by Archibald Lampman, and “Stories of Snow” by P.K Page are two poems describing the human experience of winter. Winter is seen, by some, to be blissful, magical and serene. Winter could also be described as pure and heavenly, with the white snow resembling clouds. However, others have a contrasting viewpoint; they paint winter in harsher light, giving the impression that winter is bitter and ruthless. Others still, have a mixed viewpoint and may recognize both the positives and negatives to the season.
James Joyce is praised for his distinct stylistic purpose and furthermore for his writings in the art of free direct discourse. Though at times his language may seem muddled and incoherent, Joyce adds a single fixture to his narratives that conveys unity and creates meaning in the otherwise arbitrary dialogue. Within the story “The Dead”, the final and most recognizable piece in the collection Dubliners, the symbol of snow expresses a correlation with the central character and shows the drastic transformation of such a dynamic character in Gabriel Conroy. The symbol of snow serves as the catalyst that unifies mankind through the flawed essence of human nature, and shows progression in the narrow mind of Gabriel. Snow conveys the emission of the otherwise superficial thoughts of Gabriel and furthermore allows for the realization of the imperfections encompassed by mankind. Riquelme’s deconstruction of the text allows for the understanding that the story cannot be read in any specific way, but the variance in meaning, as well as understanding depends solely upon the readers’ perspective. Following a personal deconstruction of the text, it is reasonable to agree with Riquelme’s notions, while correspondingly proposing that the symbol of snow represents the flaws, and strengths of Gabriel, as well as the other characters as it effects all equally.
In Binghamton, New York, snow fell for the first time in years that resulted in Sedaris and his siblings to have school canceled over five days (Faigley 89). Over their five-day vacation from school, things around the house started to get complicated. After a long day of sledding, Sedaris observes his mother pulling the drapes shut when the siblings were yelling to, “Open the door!” (Faigley 89). One thought that came to Sedaris’s mind after trying endlessly to get back inside the house was to have someone get hit by a car (Faigley 90). Sedaris’s mother was an alcoholic, and her problem affected him and his siblings greatly. The reader will explain why he and his siblings did what they did to get their mother’s attention. Sedaris’s tone, word choice, and by the way he organized his essay of “Let It Snow,” made it easy to connect with the reader on many levels.

In Chicago winter is usually the most dreaded time of the year. It rains, snows, and is just freezing. In january 1985 it was -27℉. In order to go outside in the months of December, January, and February you have to wear a hat, gloves,a scarf and multiple layers of clothes in order to stay warm. Almost every morning you would have to wipe off the snow, frost, and ice off your car. The are also lots of danger because like black ice. Ice is not visible on most roads, this can cause cars to slip. In the winter it get a lot darker a lot earlier. At 4:30 it's close to complete darkness. Winter in some parts of the world is 70℉ but not in Chicago.
We jumped in the truck and drove up to the highway. We were on the highway about thirty seconds before we turned off to the place we wanted to go. The place was called "The Brooklands." The road was dirt with spots of snow and ice. After we started driving up the steep road, I noticed that we h...

In “Those Winter Sundays,” a man bring to attention the remembrance of his father, how his father demonstrated love to him through is behavior. Precisely, the speaker recalls that his father wakes up early on Sunday morning to light up the furnace fire and also wake his son up to dress up when the house is a little bit warm. And “Then with cracked hands that ached, from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze” in line three, four and five talks of how
Neal Stephenson’s “Snow Crash” is a book completely different from any other books I have ever read. It takes readers on a journey to the future, by showing them how life has changed, in a good way and bad. There are incidents where we see changes in human behaviors and how people act. Technology plays a key role throughout the whole book mostly because the story is in the high-tech future. The characters are portrayed as some sort of “comic” characters. For example, Hiro has computer hacking, sword-fighting, and sharp mental skills. We also see Y.T., who is a 15 years old girl, working as a courier by delivering mails and packages on her skateboard. She also does crazy amount of things throughout the book, which we don’t see normal 15 year
My tie flew in the morning wind. The only thing that I hoped was that I would not be late to work, I had been warned a couple of times about me being late. Luckily the bus too was late as usual. As I was boarding the bus I looked up for a vacant seat. What I saw then was quite unbelievable.
After reading quite a few poems and short stories, I was beginning to become very aggravated. The fact that I could not understand any of the underlying meanings of them was really starting to tick me off. As much as I do not like to read, I finally decided it would be best if I just started reading them over again with a calm and open mind. Once I began to read over them again, there was one poem in particular that really jumped out to me. The poem was, “The Snow Man”, by Wallace Stevens. The reason why this poem enlightened me so much is because I was thinking of a Soldier and their family. I began to ponder over what goes through a soldiers mind when they are at war, or even what may be going through the families mind.
The argument Ms. Li proposed is most certainly backed up very well by her life experiences and story. The Cultural Revolution tore her family apart; her dad was forced into a labour camp and her mother and grandmother were said to be against Chairman Mao. The Revolution played a huge role in Li’s life, shaping her into the person she has become today. It gave her the incentive to study as hard as she did, witness the hardships of others as well as experience her own. The Revolution was a driving force behind her character, as well as many other people in China, as clearly testified by the author throughout the reading.
First, I went to pick up my stepson from the day care. To make sure he stayed warm I decided to let the car run while I ran inside to get him. Being just a quick run inside, I decided to leave the car unlocked. After returning to the vehicle, I strapped him to his car seat and then we proceeded to the grocery store. I kept running through my mind all the things that I needed to buy. Being a little preoccupied with all the traffic and not paying attention, I passed the grocery store and had to turn around and go back.
