Brad Coffiner of Cornell University’s ergonomic department reports the L5/S1 disc remains the area most at risk of an injury during this activity. In fact, most injuries that are reported after shoveling snow are those that affect the back. Low back pain remains a problem for tens of millions of Americans, yet the problems they experience aren’t a result of a fracture or underlying disease or disorder. When muscles aren’t adequately warmed up before shoveling snow or when they are under-conditioned, a person is more at risk of this type of injury when they shovel snow. Avoiding Injury Before shoveling snow, be sure to warm up properly. Do this for a minimum of ten minutes to ensure the body is ready to tackle the heavy snow. Light aerobic activity is perfect for warming up, and the core muscles in the abdomen need to be part of the process. They help to keep a person stable when shoveling the snow. Of course, the easiest way to avoid an injury while shoveling snow is to pay someone to do this job for you. A professional snow removal service becomes of great help at this time, as the employees are trained to reduce the risk of injury as they complete the task. Contact a company offering this service to learn more about how they can be of help during the winter months. The money spent is well worth it when one considers the dangers to their health and the benefits of avoiding
James Joyce is praised for his distinct stylistic purpose and furthermore for his writings in the art of free direct discourse. Though at times his language may seem muddled and incoherent, Joyce adds a single fixture to his narratives that conveys unity and creates meaning in the otherwise arbitrary dialogue. Within the story “The Dead”, the final and most recognizable piece in the collection Dubliners, the symbol of snow expresses a correlation with the central character and shows the drastic transformation of such a dynamic character in Gabriel Conroy. The symbol of snow serves as the catalyst that unifies mankind through the flawed essence of human nature, and shows progression in the narrow mind of Gabriel. Snow conveys the emission of the otherwise superficial thoughts of Gabriel and furthermore allows for the realization of the imperfections encompassed by mankind. Riquelme’s deconstruction of the text allows for the understanding that the story cannot be read in any specific way, but the variance in meaning, as well as understanding depends solely upon the readers’ perspective. Following a personal deconstruction of the text, it is reasonable to agree with Riquelme’s notions, while correspondingly proposing that the symbol of snow represents the flaws, and strengths of Gabriel, as well as the other characters as it effects all equally.

INTRODUCTION The winter season can be a major hassle for some people while others just have to deal with a slight cool down in temperatures. Over the northern portions of the country, people are faced to deal with the harsh conditions that Mother Nature has in store. Some winter seasons are less brutal than others. Besides the typical storm systems that come through the area and drop different types of precipitation whether it is snow, sleet, or freezing rain, there’s another weather event that affects not everyone in the country, but primarily around the Great Lakes.
We looked around for a little while longer and Tom spotted a nice hit. It was an untouched field, with three 10-15’ drops which made for great hits. After hiking about a quarter of a mile we made it there. A quarter of a mile does not sound like that much of a walk but it is not as easy as it sounds when you are walking in snow past your knees deep, simply it took almost an hour and a half. We strapped in and took off, making huge carves in all the fresh powder that had probably not been ridden in at least a week. The first hit was coming and Tom shouted “hit it man,” As Dan and I approached the hit we got some big air. The only problem with riding such fresh snow is that when you land in that amount of fresh powder you sink like a rock.

A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way

Weather and climate shows a significant role in individual’s health. Changes in climate affect the common varying climate conditions that we are accustomed to. Warmer regular temperature ranges will likely lead to hotter days and more frequent and longer prolonged warm ranges. This could improve the number of heat-related illnesses and fatalities. Increase in the regularity or harshness of excessive climate activities such as stormy weather could increase the risk of dangerous surging, high gusts of wind, and other direct risks to people and property. Warmer temperature ranges could improve the levels of unhealthy air and water contaminants. Changes in temperature, rainfall styles, and excessive activities could enhance the spread of some illnesses.
The sounds of the winter snowstorm were echoing throughout the town, from the snowplows in the distance, to the scraping of snow shovels that sounded like fingernails scratching a chalkboard. Neighbors were shoveling snow that had accumulated on their sidewalks and driveways.
The EPA says that, “Warmer temperatures and shifting weather patterns can worsen air quality, which can lead to asthma attacks and other respiratory and cardiovascular health effects.” This shows that extreme heat and poor air quality increases the risk of illnesses and deaths. Climate change also affects our safety because it can cause an increase in extreme weather events like storms, floods and droughts. According to the National Climate Assessment (NCA), these extreme weather events can have impacts on our “mental health, such as anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.” Rising sea levels intensify floods and the NCA says that as a result it can cause, “injuries, deaths, stress due to evacuations, and water quality impacts, among other effects on public health.” This demonstrates that climate change has the potential to control our well being and our
