SLOW LEARNERS
“Learning is a continuous process from cradle to grave” Every student has his own style of learning. Some student’s way of learning and ability will be entirely different compared to other students. If we watch them closely, we can find some abnormality in them due to various reasons. The slow learners look like normal students only but they will have some abnormality compared to normal students. They are normal students but they take more time to learn .Such students won’t show much interest in studies .If they are forced to learn, they will be evasive and all the efforts of the teacher will be in vain. It won’t be positive. They need special care by experienced and trained teachers. Teaching such students will be a very challenging task. We can give them hope by giving extra care. This article encounters the reasons of slow learning and suggests some of the tips to help the slow learners.
What is learning?
Learning is a process which continues from cradle to grave without any age barrier.
Who are slow learners?
The students who lack interest in learning and are normal from the birth and take long time to learn and understand are called slow learners. They are not mentally retarded children. All they need is extra care from teachers.

5) Role play:- The teachers should develop confidence among the slow learners by giving them role play so that the students can play the roles which are given by the teachers. This will help them to get rid of their fear and they can gain more confidence.
Curative measures:-
a. Teachers should maintain a friendly relationship with their parents to help the slow learners.
b. Teaching the students how to use dictionary.
c. Teaching them new vocabulary and meanings.
d. Encourage the students to read story books and novels.
e. Teach them simple conversations according the situation.
f. Must motivate them to think critically.
g. Experienced teachers should be recruited.

City Workshop, Richard Lavoie is able to simulate several of the difficulties that a student with a learning disability has to face at school. Some of the difficulties experienced by the students are intrinsic to the disability itself, but many other difficulties are directly related with the emotions that the student experiences when attending a class, and as a result of his or her interactions with teachers and classmates. Both the United States law and the education system, have the opportunity to make a huge difference in the learning experience of every student with disability. Students with disabilities need to be guided to a path to education that is both feasible and accessible for them; with achievable goals, and by being provided what they need in order to succeed, and to be able to overcome any obstacles.

This should not be too surprising, our children are studying history books that are from a decade ago. This creates difficult obstacles for our children to keep up on current politics and other global events. Also the over crowding of classrooms makes it extremely difficult for your child to get that personalized learning which may determine his or her ability to learn at all. Every child learns at a different rate and possibly in different ways, this makes it virtually impossible for teachers to tap into every child’s full learning potential. If your child needs that extra, personalized attention, but is not "defined" as handicapped their specific learning needs will most likely be overlooked and that may be the beginning of your child’s inability to learn.
Dyslexia is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders that haunt adolescents throughout their childhood. Commonly known as a reading disability (RD), dyslexia is a hereditary complex trait that occurs in five to seventeen percent of people. Neuroimaging studies show that dyslexic individuals display abnormal brain function compared to fluent readers when challenged with reading assignments (7). The exact genes that code for dyslexia are not certain, however substantial studies have potentially linked dyslexia to the KIAA0319 gene, the DCDC2 gene, and the DYX1 gene. The severity of each case is largely determined by environmental factors such exposure to reading and professional intervention. Significantly, the interplay between these external influences and innate genetic characteristics ultimately determine the performance of the dyslexic individual.
Reading comprehension is a skill that has to be learned by most of the population. This includes adults that have been reading for many years. There is a difference between reading and reading comprehension. Read is defined as, “to look at and understand the meaning of letters, words, or symbols” (Read, 2014). Comprehension is defined as, “the act or action of grasping with intellect” (Comprehension, 2014). Even as an adult, people may have difficulties with reading comprehension. There can be visual learning disorders such as dyslexia. There are many learning techniques and strategies that can negate or even overcome these visual learning disorders. This paper will discuss a few techniques and strategies that when used can improve reading comprehension such as vocabulary building, effective reading, and reading strategies. With these techniques the road block of dyslexia may no longer be an issue.
Dyslexia is a very common learning disorder that affects more than three million cases reported every year. It can also be referred to as a language based learning disability. Dyslexia is a disability that impairs one’s ability (usually identified in children) to read and interpret different letters/words. Fundamentally, development of the brain is an immense determinant of someone’s ability to learn. Therefore, the success of most learning patterns will be premised upon this notion of brain development. Other aspects of learning involves practice, teaching methods applied, the complexity of the concepts being taught and so forth. Nonetheless, the effectiveness of these other methods is dependent upon the brain of the learner. People have different levels of brain development. This manifests itself in the different abilities of learning. Some are poor learners whereas others learn pretty fast (Iba & Miyake, 2010).
In the classroom, there is a wide range of learners because every student has unique qualities and needs. Some students are able to quickly master any problem given to them, while other students seem to struggle with basic or grade level problems. When students struggle, they have a tendency to give up or exhibit behavioral problems. Why do some students struggle while others learn with ease? Eleven-year-old Anna is outgoing and bright. She attempts to work hard, but her progress in school has always been slow. She is a year behind her peers, particularly in her English class and her teachers have slowly begun to reduce their expectations of her. Her parents are worried because her confidence for learning is decreasing, and there is less motivation for her to do homework and class assignments. A psychologist found that her intelligence is in the gifted range, but she has difficulty in making out written symbols. It is easy to make the assumption that Anna seems merely as a child who is slow intellectually, but when taking a closer look, it shows that she is just as intelligent but happens to suffer from a learning disorder. Students with learning disorders have brain impairments that make it difficult for them to acquire skills and knowledge accurately and fast enough to keep pace with average academic progress (Encarta, 2003, p.1). The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the causes of learning disorders, various types of disabilities, their causes, and finally how in today’s modern era assistive technology is able to reduce the frustration of students and increase their level of performance.

I conducted research by observing and interviewing several different school/ classroom settings. The first class I observed was at a Therapeutic Day school on the North West side of Chicago. The class included nine students between the ages of nine and fifteen and their learning abilities range from zero comprehension through average grade level. Only three of the students were within average grade level for their age, the rest of the students are at or below the second grade level. The teacher explained that one student (who is ten years old) has profound mental retardation and has a one year old cognitive level. People all learn at a different pace, some may be faster than others at learning something. It just depends on how the specific person learns best, or how much they already know on a specific topic. Other than the obvious fact that people learn differently, you as a teacher also have to take into consideration those that can not understand because of a mental disability that they may have. It is really common for someone of special needs to be put into a classroom and you have to be sure to not leave them behind, and make sure that they understand what you are teaching. It may be a slower process, but it is necessary. On the opposite side of that, there are the people who get all that you throw at them really easily. Those people may get bored, so you may have to give them something harder to do so that they are challenged and interested. To be fair and sure that people all learn properly, you should split them into three groups for each lesson that you teach. The group that completely understands what they need to, the group that is average and kind of gets it, that may need a little more help, and the group that definitely needs help with the topic. Doing this, you can ensure that each group will eventually be on the same level of understanding. You could also do some sort of different activity for each group, getting harder as you go up in difficulty level. This may take longer than you
