Size of Skateboard Decks
"It's personal preference." That's what Aaron Kyro, a professional skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay area, said when he made a video testing different sizes of skateboards. People can choose different sizes of skateboards depending on what they do for example: A street rider might want to get a smaller board, so that they can flip the board easier; If there is a rider that rides the bowl they might want to get a bigger board but not too big so that it is easy to do turns and tricks in the air; If a rider rides downhill they might want to get a HUGE because weight doesn't matter and they need lots of space to move. Skateboard is a pretty complex sport and to do the right tricks people need to find the right size

Aaron Kyro made a video talking about how the size of the board matters. Kyro is a professional skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay area and he made a video explaining how the size of the deck can affect many things. In the video, Aaron mentions that the size of the deck does affect the landing because the bigger board will be wider than a smaller board so the bigger board will have more space to land. It is a fact that the wider the board there is more space to land. One thing to put in mind is to imagine a really wide plank of wood it will be really easy to land in it. Now imagine a really thin piece of wood it will be really hard to land. That's the same thing with a skateboard. Therefore a wider board will be easier to land and a smaller board is harder to land the trick. Warehouse.com said that a board that is too small can influence the landing. If the board is too skinny it will be hard to land the trick and it will feel uncomfortable riding the …show more content…
Skating a wrong size can have some really negative effects and ruin all the tricks. So after all the size of the board has a big impact on the rider.

While watching the three videos I noticed that tap dancing is more cheerful, fast-paced, and requires more foot/ankle work. The videos all displayed the tappers doing insane stunts (or at least for me). The rhythm was not repetitive. Each step had a different unique sound. The body positions were everywhere they would move all around the room. The tappers would stand still, they were constantly moving around. As for the level of difficulty in my opinion all the moves shown in the videos are challenging.
Most scooters are younger kids. Do you see more 4 year olds running around on a skateboard or on a razor scooter? That's because you just hop and go on a scooter. They are young, lack tendency for a sustain skatepark effort (Skatepark Development Guide). They are causing accidents or jumping in the way.
weight depending on the size and height of the rider. The snowboard is measured in inches. Children ride between a 38"-43". Women usually ride between 45"-53. For men, the sizes can run from 55"-65".
Some other factors that can come into play are: snow conditions, the type of snowboard, and experience of the rider. Which are much more advanced topics, and way beyond the scope of what we're worrying about here. What I am mainly going to be looking at are the basic characteristics of your average snowboard jump.
The first skateboards were made in the 1950’s being used as an exciting activity to take part in when the waves were down. From then and now the sport has changed tremendously, thanks to a group of young skaters from a slum area of Venice Beach or Dog-town, as the locals called it, known as the z-boys in the 1970’s. Even though skateboarding was already known and invented, the z-boys are the ones who made skating famous and took it to new heights in popularity. But how did they do this? The Z-boys made this sport what it is today, and played a very important part in the history and evolution of skateboard style and quality.
A lot of people, especially people just getting into snowboarding, think that Jake Burton invented snowboarding. He did not. He just made snowboarding what it is today by innovating the Snurfer into what is now the modern snowboard. The most popular argument as to who and where snowboarding was invented is based in Muskegon, MI. Sherman Poppen, a businessman, was called upon his pregnant wife on Christmas in 1965 to get the kids out of the house. Not being able to find a sled for his 2 girls to use, he took two downhill skis and bound them together, hoping that they would use it as a sled. Instead, he found the two girls standing up and sliding down the sand dune behind their house. Within a year he had patented the toy and was picked up by Brunswick Corp. Over the next several years, Snurfing became really popular and many competitions popped up, including the Snurfing Championships at Blockhouse Hill behind Muskegon County Community College. In 1979, a young enthusiast came to town with a non-regulation board. This person was Jake Burton. The board is called the Burton Backhill. His board was a...
Boarders and skiers have differences and similarities in their equipment. Snowboarding requires only one piece to guide you down the slopes, where skiing uses four. In skiing you require two slender pieces of fiberglass along with two poles. Snowboarding, with its single wide piece of fiberglass, uses bindings to lock your feet onto the board leaving no room for a scavenger hunt your equipment on the slopes. When you fall in snowboarding you have three less things to worry about. Instead of a plastic boot used by skiers, snowboarders use custom fitted boots with all the flexibility you need. Snowboards and skis are made out of the same material and they both require waxing. Like some skis, snowboards are carved upwards on both tips of the board for freestyle movements. The equipment is made for the boarder or skier to use on the same slopes.
The typical snowboard is designed to face the toughest conditions in any climate, even though it's use is mainly during the winter. In general, a snowboard is composed of several layers to attain a durable, yet light structure. Making the surfaces of a snowboard with a minimal friction coefficient is essential in the snowboard manufacturing industry.
“The first type of skateboard was actually more like a scooter. These contraptions, which date back to the early 1950's featured roller skate wheels attached to a two by four. Often the wood had a milk crate nailed to it with handles sticking out for control” (Warwick Books, “The Concrete Wave”). The Skateboard came after the Surfboard which has been around forever and was one of the first extreme sports on flat ground. Many people got into this sport very quickly as it started in California and they’ve always had a
Skateboarding was originally from the idea of surfing. But when the waves were gone, they still wanted to go surfing so they decided to put wheels on their boards. And the ones who were brave enough
One way I succeeded was by practicing. Everyday I would go to the hill in my neighborhood and practice. I would practice stopping, keeping my balance, and locking my ankles in place so my board wouldn’t shake. I would spend all evening after school riding down that hill and if it was the weekend, I would be outside all day! I brought my skateboard with me everywhere and I would practice on any hill I saw until my legs and feet hurt, I was determined to ride down that hill.
In the short documentary film Skateistan, directed by Orlando von Einsiedel, shows us how the simple hobby of skateboarding can help kids of different genders communicate and build relationships with each other. Skateistan, a Non-Governmental Organisation being run by Shana Nolan, helped give the children of Kabul, Afghanistan hope, knowing that there's more out there in the world than just War. From this short film, we can clearly see the major effect war has on the people of Afghanistan. In the film, we are shown the effects of war on Fazilla and her family. Her family has suffered because of the effects of war on them.
If a town has a skatepark that is built in the right spot and is also built correctly it could improve the looks of the town. Improving the looks of the town will attract people and skaters from everywhere. In order for this to happen the park has to be designed and built professionally. A few rails and ramps that are placed on the outskirts of the town are not going to improve the looks of anything. But, if a nice park is built in a busy, populated area where there are lots of people it will looks great. Not only do skateparks look good, but if it designed and constructed correctly, they are fiscally conservative and require little maintenance(Whitly). After they are built they practically last forever.
Jake Burton Carpenter invented the first practical snowboard. As a youngster, he had always wanted to surf, but his parents would not buy him a surfboard. Coupled with his desire to be cool, Carpenter worked hard and saved his money and bought a snurfer. He modified Burton’s design. His board looked more like an oversized skateboard with waterski bindings. This gave the rider more control over the board. This was the start of modern day snowboarding. It was popular with skateboarders and surfers and gave them an alternative sport to participate in during the
Today skateboarding is still popular to the point video games of this sport are created , and the fact that professional skateboards make a good amount of money gets the attention of many people. • Equipment Changes The skateboard has changed over the years to accommodate the growth of the sport. At first small manufacturers began producing a limited amount of skateboards referred as “sidewalk surf boards”. These boards were narrow, only 6 or 7 inches wide with clay wheels.
