No matter how many situps you do, if you have excess belly fat, you'll never see results, because the fat will be covering up your muscle definition. This doesn't mean you should eliminate situps from your workout, because as part of your core, they can promote back health, and improve your posture, athletic performance, and balance and stability. (See References 1) You should, however, incorporate fat-burning exercises into your workout to get visible results. The Spot Reduction Fallacy To lose body fat, you must burn more calories than your body uses every day. It takes a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose 1 pound of fat in a week from all over your body including your belly. Situps alone don't burn enough calories to have a big enough impact and they won't magically spot reduce fat from your belly. To make matters worse, if you only do situps, hoping to combat belly fat, you're building the muscles under the fat. As they get stronger and bigger, they can push your belly out even further. (See References 2) Doing Situps to Shape Up Situps work your rectus abdominis at the fr...
Both 1984 and The Handmaid’s Tale are dystopian novels, however, these books are a lot more complex than mere portrayals of dystopia, it can be argued that they are explorations of dystopia rather than mere portrayals. In order to explore dystopia, many themes must be considered, such as; feminism, love and repression. Nonetheless, it is apparent that human characteristics are the driving point of the two novels, predominantly, the depiction of human resilience. In an imperfect world, it is important to have certain qualities which, if plentiful, it can mean success, whereas if it lacks, it can mean failure, this characteristic is resilience. The protagonists in each novel, Winston in 1984 and Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale face situations which leave them both in disarray, and both even consider suicide. The authors tentatively highlight human resilience, its limits and most importantly its strengths into the two novels.
Drawing your belly button to your spine engages and strengthens your TVA muscle, and can be done all throughout the day, whether you're sitting in a chair, standing in line in the grocery store, or lying in bed. Also known as the stomach vacuum, this exercise is easiest when lying on your back with your knees bent. Exhale and pull your belly button to your spine as much as you can. Hold the contraction in your tummy for five seconds, but don't hold your breath -- breathe normally. Do this five times, and slowly work your way up to doing three sets of eight, 10-second contractions. For a challenge, do the exercise on all fours. (See References 2)
Scott Hightower’s poem “Father” could be very confusing to interpret. Throughout almost the entirety of the poem the speaker tries to define who his father is by comparing him to various things. As the poem begins the reader is provided with the information that the father “was” all of these things this things that he is being compared to. The constant use of the word “was” gets the reader to think ‘how come the speaker’s father is no longer comparable to these things?’ After the speaker reveals that his father is no longer around, he describes how his father impacted him. Details about the father as well as descriptions of the impacts the father has distraught on the speaker are all presented in metaphors. The repetitive pattern concerning the speaker’s father and the constant use of metaphors gives the reader a sense that the speaker possesses an obsessive trait. As the reader tries to interpret the seemingly endless amount of metaphors, sets of connotative image banks begin to develop in the reader’s mind. Major concepts that are expressed throughout the poem are ideas about what the speaker’s father was like, what he meant to the speaker, and how he influenced the speaker.
Excess back fat often results in hanging rolls and that dreaded bra bulge that plagues many women. Dumbbell exercises that work your back muscles including the lattisumus dorsi, trapezius and rhomboids, can help reduce the fat, but only as part of a full-body weight-loss regimen. Spot reduction isn't possible, and to reduce fat from your problem area, you must reduce if from your entire body. (See References 1, p. 8) You can accomplish this by eating a healthy diet, doing 150 to 300 minutes of cardio a week, and full-body strength training on two nonconsecutive days. (See References 2)

Stand Up is a program developed to promote good posture and physical activity to high school students. This means encouraging them to use all available resources and educating them on the benefits of being active and practicing good posture. Sitting for extended periods is common among high school students. This is due to having long school days and being an electronically oriented age group. Two CDC risk addressed in my program are behaviors that result in intentional injury and physical inactivity. I plan on implementing this program to help improve posture and physical activity among high school students to hopefully reduce possibility of lower back pain and obesity in this population.

The bridge exercises effectively works your glutes, while also engaging your legs and calves. During this exercise you're lying face up on the floor with your knees bent and your feet hip-width apart, flat on the floor. After engaging your abs, raise your hips, lifting your butt and lower back off the floor, until your body aligns from your knees to your shoulders. Really squeeze your buttocks at the top of the exercise for two seconds, and then slowly return to the starting point. Finish eight to 12 reps and two to three sets. (See References 4, p. 50)
Reverse crunches work the muscles in the lower part of your abdomen, which is an area where many people, and especially women, have a belly pooch. Critics have referred to the concept of Mariana taking Isabella's place in Angelo's bed "the bed trick." This plan of the Duke's, which is supposed to save Isabella, Claudio, and Mariana, appears to be almost corrupt and shameful, and is one of the reasons scholars consider Measure for Measure a problem play. What exactly is going on here with all of these characters? It seems almost uncharacteristic of the sweet, naïve, virginal Isabella to condone another performing such an act in her place. Isabella is, in a sense, asking Mariana to perform the very act which she has not only been avoiding, but that she is disgusted by. The fact that Isabella would accept the Duke's plan without question, which she does, has caused critics to question how saintly she actually is. The Duke has also been criticized for conducting and carrying out his plan. After all, he is the Duke, and he could have stopped Angelo and saved Mariana from having to sacrifice herself if he would have simply removed his disguise. It seems to be odd that a character the audience is expected to revere would not try to solve this problem by a more respectable, and much more simple, solution. Mariana has also been criticized for accepting her part in the action, because she is the character who commits the sin. Hence, the deception presented by these three "good" characters in the play is almost as corrupt as Angelo's deception. Why would Shakespeare do this? It appears that perhaps Shakespeare wanted to make all of his characters appear human. Angelo depicts a "holier-than-thou" persona and eventually falls because of it, Isabella is portrayed as a saintly virgin but here the audience sees she is also falli...
