The Madonna and Child with Book was on of the many images I looked at when I went to Norton Simon Museum. The title does help me interpret what I see because that is literally what it is. The subject matter is that Madonna is showing a motherly side in this painting which is why it makes it so iconic to remember. Raphael has depicted more than just a gorgeous image of the Madonna and Child; he has created a reflection piece. It is also depicted as narratives and vivid skills with stories and storylines of Christ’s birth in a cave or a stable surrounded by harsh shepherds or richly-dressed Magi and the Holy Family’s escape into Egypt. The value of the paint is amazing as well, it definitely shows a lot of value. The shape of the bodies are proportioned nicely, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. The form of the painting seems to show just like any other normal painting you would see. The spacing arrangements also help to tie everything together because it gives us as the viewer a feeling of depth and sense of where the piece was painted. In the center of the figure, Madonna has the child wrapped within her arms. Also, the space within the painting is shown equally, nothing is too big or too small, it is just about right. The color is shown within the painting are remarkable because they show the pigment in every single color. The texture seems to be just about perfect, the faces do not look like as if they are messed up in any sort of way. The painting to me seems a bit cartoon like and not so much realism, I mean there is some sort of realism but more abstract because there is not as much expression in the face or body language.
