Everyone has done something they wish they had never done before. The outcome may be good or bad. Sometimes you might be happy with what you did and think nothing bad will happen after. These undesired consequences are what we fear when we decide to do something whether we like it or not. This is what these two stories have in common by two different author’s. In Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, Liesel is adopted by a new family after her brother had past. She cannot read but she decided she wants to and starts to steal books for herself so she could learn. In “The Book Thief” Liesel, the main character, lies about things. As an example, she lies about being able to read the test she was taking. In TBITSP, Bruno lies about what he does outside when really he goes to see a Jew somewhere he isn't allowed to be close to. For Liesel, in the text she says that she can read what the paper says; of course Sister Maria says she cannot and doesn’t believe her. She goes up and reads it,the problem is… she restated a line from “The Grave Digger's Handbook.” Sister Maria told her, “Liesel-the corridor.” Meaning that she is being punished. The other kids were laughing at her because she couldn’t read unlike everyone else who could. In TBITSP, there is one moment where Bruno is interrogated by Lieutenant Kotler by asking, “Do you know this boy” in a loud voice. Bruno does know this boy and is his friend. Instead of saying yes… he lies and said no. His friend; he hadn’t seen him in almost week because of what happened until the next time he went to the fence where they meet.
