Romeo and Juliet is the famous play written by the playwright William Shakespeare and published in 1597 and has been adapted into many different mediums such as film and theater. The story arch and character development is usually used to format these adaptations. The story is about two lovers separated by a feud between their families; the Capulets and the Montagues. This conflict prevents their love and leads to their eventual demise and follows the story of the tragic hero. Their love, like many others, began as love at first sight. Warm Bodies is a modern day film that was released in 2013 and directed by Jonathan Levine and produced by David Hoberman. In hopes of meeting her again he goes to a party held by the Capulets, but instead, he meets Juliet where they both instantly fall in love with each other. Romeo and Juliet are yanked apart by the ending of the party and seek to meet at a later date. The conflict between the two factions is what solidifies the similarity between the plots of both Romeo and Juliet and Warm Bodies. The feud between the families of the Montagues and Capulets, where each one would kill the other if presented the opportunity. The same goes for the humans and corpses, the opposing factions in Warm Bodies. Julie’s boyfriend and mother are both killed by the corpses much like how Romeo had murdered Tybalt in order to avenge Mercutio's death at the hands of Tybalt. Julie’s boyfriend, Perry, is very similar to Tybalt due to his connection to Julie and how she overlooks his death for her love for R. R is in a sense banished since he is not welcomed in the city of the human or trusted due to his actions in the past. Nora, who is there with Julie and is her best friend, against her original judgement regarding R, she decides to help them in bringing humans and corpses together. Nora is effectively the nurse who sought to aid Romeo and Juliet in concealing and maintaining their love. Nora even comes to the rescue and saves R’s life in order to preserve Julie’s happiness. The nurse and Nora both do everything to help, not for R or Romeo, but their friend Julie or Juliet to keep them together to help prolong their love. This one aspect of how Nora and the Nurse help their friend, is one of the two major character references to Romeo and Juliet. While the plot elements, such as love at first sight or conflict within families or factions to be together is significant, another character who is only named M, who is also very similar to the Friar. The Friar saw an opportunity in the two lovers’ love between Romeo and Juliet, to end the feud and bring the Montagues and Capulets together. M who is a friend to R and based on the other characters, could be seen as Mercutio, especially since of the initial the M but has the role that is much more significant and fits the Friar’s character more
