Similarities Between Modern Day America And The Giver

Modern-Day America is far from a utopia, but still not to be considerd a dystopia.America cannot be compatable to the futuristic society of The Giver by Lois Lowry. They both have bad qualities, such as America has a problem with racism, while in The Giver the goverment eliminates choices. In additionto that both societies have a problems with birth controll. Modern-Day America and The Giver has their ups and downs.

To begin with, America has been known for having a problem with racism. For example, people are killing each other because ofthe color of thier skin and for what they blieve in. In addishion to killing, some people think they have more rights than others because of thier race.But, in The Giver the people are color blind and

everyone bleaves thay are the same. In chapter 12 and 13 "Jonas just starts to see the color red, While everyone else cannot see it". Not seeing colors would make everything bland, but yet it would get rid of racism.

Next, in The Giver the goverment elimanated people's freedom of making choices. The binefit from elimanting people from making their own choices, is they will not make the bad choices, but it takes the citzens freedom to choose."The Elder cousal choose Jonas to be the new Receiver"was explaned in chapter 7. On the other hand, in America citizens have the freedom to choose ttheir own jobs, spoce, and the list continues. Elimanating chooses keeps people from making the wrong ones. But also, it takes their freedom away.

The finaly, Modern-Day America and The Giver both have in common is birth control. In The Giver chapter 19 and 20 it exclaimed"They killed or realesed kids for birth defects, growing to slow, if it was the smallest out of twins". However, in America when having a child you have a choice to abourt,keep, or put it up for adoption.

In conclusion, Modern-Day America's society gives you more freedom , bit still has flaws.The Giver's society was made to be utopia, but turned out to be a dystopia. America is far from a utopia yet still not a dystopia. There is no perfict society.
