In forestry terminology, silvicultural systems describe the sequence of treatments by which a stand is harvested, regenerated, and tended to produce timber and other forest products. (Clayoquot, 1995). The silvicultural system currently implemented on Witklip plantaion is that of an even aged stand known as clearfelling. Silviculture involves an applied forest ecology approach utilizing silvicultural practices such as the control of stand structure and processes, control of composition, control of stand density, control of rotation length, the facilitation of harvesting with restocking, protection and conservation of site productivity (Litton, 2011). Forestry is a business thus managers need to utilize all tools at hand to promote sustainability …show more content…

There frailties when it come to the susceptibility to Diplodia and this is being countered with the replacement of P.patula with suitable hybrids such as P.patula x oocarpa. 3.2 Recommendations On higher lying litholithic soils E. grandis x longistrata is recommended. This species offers a broad site capability with good disease resistance. Litholithic soils are shallow thus they require species which will tolerate these

The cultivation of rice has had an enormous impact on the natural biome. Rice has affected the natural biome that it is grown in, in a devastating way. It has caused the natural biomes to deteriorate and caused the natural way of life to collapse leaving no place for the native animals and plants. But what would happen if the cultivation of rice stopped and the natural biomes returned to their former glory? What would happen to all those people depending on rice for the next meal? Those who depend on rice to pay for and keep their families alive? This report looks at the where, effects, who and how of rice cultivation.

A. Define the Problem Natureview Farm, Inc. (Natureview), a small yogurt company founded in 1989, produces and markets yogurt using natural ingredients and a distinct manufacturing method that yields a smooth, creamy texture without adding artificial thickeners. As a result of this emphasis on natural ingredients, the brand has established a reputation for high quality, great tasting yogurt and is the leading natural foods brand of refrigerated yogurt. Natureview’s yogurts – available in twelve flavors in 8-ounce cups, four flavors in 32-ounce cups, and multi-pack yogurt products – are distributed nationally and the company shares leadership in the natural food channel. In 1999, the company’s revenues grew from $100,000 to $13 million; however, despite Natureview’s success and well-established brand, the company has long battled to preserve a steady level of profitability. In 1996, Jim Wagner was hired as chief financial officer and was able to successfully achieve steady profitability for the company.
b) Logging has impacted this special ecosystem. There are trees that are hundreds of years old and their timber is being pushed to be sold for high prices. After World War 2 the Australian economy was booming and timber was in demand. A number of timber mills where made near the Daintree for the purpose of cutting down the forest for the use in infra...

Timber and especially hardwoods like mahogany and ebony are being felled at an alarming rate to satisfy the needs of the swiftly developing world. Another problem for the forest areas of the world is the type of agriculture used by some peasant farmers known as "slash & burn". This method of farming involves the burning of trees to add to the initial supply of nutrients in the soil. Over time this supply slowly wares down and so the farmer once again moves onto another plot of trees to slash and burn.
Industrial logging is the main cause of forest loss throughout the tropics. It is the starting point of a process leading to the forests' final destruction and substitution by agricultural crops, cattle raising or monoculture tree plantations. These are well known facts supported by more than sufficient evidence.
Many enjoy venturing out in the nature and into the wild; thus, Maui welcomes each and everyone to her luxurious greenery and breathtaking forests. There are various forests on the island of Maui. Moreover, eight forests are observed and reserved by the State of Hawaii Forest Reserve. The f...
People have depended on agriculture for years as the primary source of getting food. We have developed all kinds of ways to manipulate nature so what we can produce higher yield crops, more nutritious crops, bigger crops, crops that withstand cold, and farming equipment that allows us to manufacture these crops with relative ease. Why then are there five billion people being malnourished and forty thousand children dying each day from hunger? It seems as though world hunger is more a result of the lack of distributing the food properly than the lack of quantity. agriculture has turned into a high profit business and biotech companies like Monsanto are constantly trying to come up with better and more efficient ways of farming. Are they doing this to try to solve the world hunger crisis, or merely to make a profit?
