There has been a significant improvement of the LBACS from when it first began to today. LBACS first began in 1889 to provide humane treatment and public safety to animals. The city leaders back then established the LBACS in response animal concerns. In 2001, the city of Long Beach and the spcaLA collaborated and built an animal shelter together that is over 6 acres of land total. Since then, the animal shelter is going successful and has been taking care of around 11,500 animals a

Four journalists named Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, Marcia Glaser, and Fred Myers thought it would be a good idea to create a nonprofit organization to help animals that have are treated cruelly by either abuse or when they are left alone. The Humane Society has been helping animals since November 24, 1954(2). Their mission since the beginning has been celebrating animals and confronting cruelty. There are a great number of things that the Humane Society has been doing for the animals, like saving them from people who want to harm them. The list of animals that the Humane Society helps is very long, because they don’t just help the household pets that you might have thought. The conditions of the Humane Society change due to the types of animals
What do the following have in common? Dedication, commitment, raising awareness, fund-raising, and life saving programs? That's right! The ASPCA! This organization stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They have accomplished all of the above and much more. From providing millions of animals with adequate shelter, and the proper care they deserve, the ASPCA is a charitable organization that positively impacts the nation. People can only imagine the horror of having to give up a pet for reasons beyond their control, they would be devastated for sure. More importantly, they would want to find a place that would provide their pet with a loving home, and people who would care for it as they have. The ASPCA has a reputation that wouldn't leave pet owners with any doubts about the safety and well-being of their pets.
committee to review the use of animals by the facility and inspect animal housing (Explanation).
In 1824 a group of people started to notice all the abuse that was happening to all the animals in England, so they formed the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A man named Henry Bergh saw all the good things that this group was doing in England, so he decided to open one in the United States. In Massachusetts around 1836, there was a law that was passed that stated that there will be no stoning and beating of cattle as week as dog and cockfighting. In 1866 he created a group called the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in New York. This organization helped end the beating to animals, end inadequate food for animals, end poor housing for animals, and humane standards for treatment of animals used for vivisection. After his success...
This organization was founded in 1980 by Ingrid Newkirk, its international president. (PETA.org). In 1981, PETA became involved with its first case study that caught the attention of the public. In Silver Spring, Maryland there was an investigation about the experiments being conducted in t...
Countless lives locked away in cages and forgotten about have overwhelmed our society, it has left blood stains on our history as a species and if history has taught us anything, it’s that we have a choice to change our ways of adjusting to situations. A war which was fought in pursuit of ending such criminal means, yet we as human beings do little to nothing to end the horrific crimes of animal deaths in shelters. It is no secret that this world has become infused with problems that have extended from one side of the globe to the other. Amongst these problems lies a terrible truth: nearly every year, sums of almost eight million cats and dogs have been placed in shelters around the world. Out of these vast numbers, half will be euthanized; that equals to one animal being put down every 8 seconds. Animals that are not adopted are kept in shelters until they find a home. Most of these shelters do not have enough space or resources to care for the animal. Only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats that enter animal shelters are reunited with their owners. The majority of pets are obtained from acquaintances and family members. Twenty-six percent of dogs are purchased from breeders, 20 to 30 percent of cats and dogs are adopted from shelters and rescues, and 2 to 10 percent are purchased from pet shops. In addition, only 56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. The 10% of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered, while 78 percent of dogs and 88 percent of cats are not spayed or neutered, in 2009 Statistics from animal shelters in 55 counties in WV (West Virginia) shows that nearly 54% of all animals entering shelters are euthanized, The euthanasia rates ranged from the lowest at 5% to the highe...
With the ultimate goal of an animal shelter is to find loving homes for animals in need of adoption or help lost animals reunite with their owners, happy endings are not always the case for animals. Of the 7.6 million companion pets who enter
The first zoo in the United States was established in 1874 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia zoo first only had 813 animals but has grown today to have 1,300 animals, still having the same forty-two acres as it did when it first opened. Today there are zoos in almost every major city across the country and even more around the world. But along with zoos, there are marine parks and aquariums. The most famous marine park is SeaWorld, which has three different locations in the nation: Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio. Zoos and aquariums were first brought about to learn about the species that we live with on this planet. To be educated about the wild creatures who are so different from ourselves. Zoos and the caging of wild animals have been around for centuries, there is evidence from Egypt of rulers having wild animals as pets, locking them in cages, just like how today people have hamsters but instead, you would have a wild animal. Today, zoos are used for education to teach people about wild animals so that we can learn ways to conserve the planet and the animals’ habitats, in order to prevent more animals from becomin...
Over the course of its running, S.N.A.P. (otherwise known as Spay/Neuter Assistance for Pets) has made a major impact on the animals of Monroe county, and arguably the people as well, at least to some degree. The shelter intake is at an all-time low; rarely is it full. Euthanasia at the shelter is less frequent than previous years. Strays have
It is a sad truth that many animals in the United States are without homes. In fact, four million cats and dogs are put down in animal shelters annually (“Pet Overpopulation”). However, there is one organization trying to change this statistic. The Progressive Animal Welfare Society is focused on giving animals a home, as well as educating the public about animal care.

In today’s society, 13 there are many pets that are out there looking for a place to eat and a roof that is over their head. There is many people who could be that one person to give that pet what it needs. ASPCA is a place where they shelter many animals that are in need of a place to stay. Most of the animals that stay are there because of people who cannot look after their pets. The animals are left on the street left to defend themselves or when a pet has a litter and the owner does not have the money to afford the animals. The Madison area needs its own ASPCA due to the increase of the pet population and to offer adoption services.
