Recommended: A significant moment in my life
I have chosen to answer the question “What are some of the significant events in your life that have shaped who you are?” as my first question because I have been through quite a bit in my life that has greatly impacted who I am today. I am the youngest of four children biologically – I have two older brothers and one older sister, my eldest being six years older than I am. While I was growing up, my dad was an active alcoholic and my mom was a struggling parent with four young children and a husband who liked his beer far too much. Trauma in my life started when I was about six years old and my eldest brother started junior high school. We had a cousin that was a couple years older in the same school, so my brother thought he was pretty cool hanging out with the older kids. In a very short period of time, my brother went off the rails and our family ended up in family counseling with no success. As time went on, he became more out …show more content…
This one is a little tricky for me. I have honestly not spent a great deal of time looking at hopes and dreams further into my future. It was a miracle for me that as a high school drop out I managed to not only get accepted into university but to maintain a 3.85 GPA in my upgrading, completed and current courses – and have a practicum set up. It is an achievement I honestly never think would become a reality. The hopes and dreams that I do have, I want to be married and I want to maintain that crazy love that people get at the beginning of a relationship, and I believe it is possible. I want to be happy and have financial security for once in my life - financial security that is mine, that I worked for and that I earned. Hopes and dreams for my profession, I want to make a difference to someone. I want to be a part of someone clawing their life back and regaining control and being able to look back and say “wow, I have come a long way from where I used to
happiness, (go to school and graduate from college with a great career, fall in love, get married,
Many events have occurred in my life, although a few have changed my life to how it is today. Growing up I realized how moving to Canada, coming to Milton and getting a baby sister are moments which have had a significant impact on my life. They showed me a completely different atmosphere, got my work recognized and made me more mature, thus, helping me get countless new opportunities and responsibilities.
I aspire to become a leader in my family and community inspiring those around me to maximize life to its fullest potential. To use my God given gifts and talents to apply the principles necessary, to make a significant difference in the lives of others. To live a balanced life challenging myself intellectually as well as allowing time for my mind to rest and do things I enjoy. To look at life through a child’s eyes, not being distressed about the past or worrying about the future. All the while dancing like nobody’s watching.
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Although I am only sixteen years old and in the eleventh grade of high school, many things have influenced me and caused me to be the person that I am today. I hope that these things will continue to help me be a better person and influence me as my life continues. Some of the things that have influenced me have been church, my family, my friends, and school.
Describe the world you come from, your family, community, or school. What life experiences have shaped who you are today and what challenges have you overcome? (i.e. financial, personal, medical, etc.). Describe your academic and career goals, and your plans to achieve them. What has motivated you to pursue a higher education? Explain how the LAEF scholarship will help you. (Tip: What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores?)
My goal is the final destination of my financial success. It is to be able to pay bills without worry, be free of debt, have enough money for my kids to go to colleges and help other people with my financial resources.
There are many things that have shaped me into the person I am today, but the main ones that I’ll be talking about are the environment in which I was raised, my family, my home, and my neighborhood. I grew up in a relatively safe environment, and by that I mean that I would go outside almost every day and I would sometimes get hurt while playing things that I enjoyed with friends. My family has always been there for me. Through thick and thin they have always been there for me, showing me guidance in the world. I always cherished the life lessons my parents taught me while growing up.
Although I have many goals in life, two stick out to me the most. They stick out in every decision I make and they help me form good decisions. What I want most importantly in life is to become a pharmacist and to create a family with someone I love. I want the family most importantly because I was raised in a very tight Greek family. I want to raise my kids in that tight Greek family as well. Becoming a pharmacist is also a very important goal because I want stability in my job so that I can raise my family without major money issues. I also think it is very important for people to be healthy so that job would allow me to provide health care.
My goal is to go to college and then have a career. It 's a goal that probably a lot of people have,
Personally, having it all in terms of my personal goals would mean showing my family all parts of the world. Having time to travel and enjoy life with the people I love is a goal I want to have freely usable by the middle of life/career. I know there are a lot of reasons why goals are not possible, but there are also a lot of reasons why they are possible. I know my work ethic and ambition to achieve what I want is strong. I know by the middle of life/career I will have everything I have ever set out for.
Upon reading the essay prompt, I took a few moments to introspect. I thought back to every experience that helped mold me into the person I am today. As human beings, we are influenced by many aspects of our surroundings. Even as children, we develop certain attributes through observation, or through conditioning by our parents. These attributes may not be always positive, but the combination of both positive and negative qualities form the people we are today. No one is perfect; nevertheless, some are fortunate enough to have their strengths outweigh their weaknesses. I believe I am one of those lucky people.
I’ve had many memorable moments in my life, but the biggest one would be when my family adopted my little brother Bailey. I’ve known Bailey for most of my life because he was my cousin that we would see every Christmas. I would’ve never thought that he would be my brother, I thought he was just an annoying little boy even though he was only three years younger than me. After time went on, I realized that he needed a family that genuinely loved him.We started to become close after we stopped fighting all the time and eventually became best friends. Bailey is kind, loving, and passionate in everything he does, and is such an amazing impact on me and my family.
I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
