We should not embrace the sources ideological perspective to any extent because the foundational ideas this source presents have a historical precedence of failure. Due to impossible and complacent standards ingrained into the infrastructure of the ideologies borrowed from. In addition, it is not possible to best understand everything around you, and all systems that act with the assumption that one person or group will always understand what is best for a variety of different groups of people are always needlessly inefficient. The source believes our society would have fewer issues if we had an authoritarian aristocracy, where the leaders get complete control over all massive decisions. Above all, the source values the principles of concentrated …show more content…
According to the theory, distinguished leaders deserve their power based on traits they have since birth, as those traits ultimately make them excellent leaders. Thus, the next leader would be decided from the past leaders family, as they share similar characteristics. Japan during World War Two is a prime example of this, as even though Emperor Hirohito had power over a willing population during the war, he made comparatively few determinations. Instead, power over Japans leadership was mainly in the hands of Tojo Hideki, with the political power of the multiple ministers like the minister of war, commerce and industry, then most influential of all, he was the prime minister. According to Great Man Theory, the most suitable authority figure had little command over Japan. Hirohito was exclusively in his position of power because Japan represented itself as a constitutional monarchy founded on the principles that the dynasty harbors traits vital to leading society but that citizens still deserve representation. However, the prime minister of Japan at the time had arguably more power than the emperor because he occupied multiple positions of power. The result is a prime minister acting as the emperor and vice versa, even though Hirohito, according to Great Man Theory, should lead by default because their heredity guarantees the right traits to lead from birth. Additionally, Hirohitos traits should unfailingly ensure his position in the hierarchy because his family would never have led if he did not have the best traits. Consequently, Hirohitos diminished leadership versus his admiral is a contraction that breaks the fundamental principles of the Great Man theory and proves it
Moreover, both Plato and Hobbes go on to propose that a strong figure of authority is necessary to maintain control within a state. Their utopias also agree in the fact that if individuals obtain more than just their basic needs of life, disorder in the society would arise. Since both agree that people tend to naturally deviate towards greed, they both acknowledge the need for a ruling body that holds power over the rest of its citizens. However, the process of developing an ideal figure of authority, differ in various
Leaders with this attitude treat the public office and nation as personal property and deploy the state resources at their disposal for selfish use. Their behavior takes the form of frivolous “surveillances, monitoring, and other control structures founded on lies and ambiguities” (Dean and Orwell 23). The same scenario is exactly what happens in Oceania. The nation is governed by the party headed by the big brother (“Gordon State College” n.p.). He shaped the society into a pyramid, with him at the top.
All political ideologies proclaim to be superior next to all others; the fact is that all worldviews have failings and merits and specific purposes. I will discuss the following Political Ideologies; Marxist/Communist, Leninist/Stalinist, Progressive/Socialist, Classic Liberalism/Capitalism, and Neo-conservative. All of the above mentioned P.I has come to the forefront of this discussion because they have been the dominant forces since the second industrial revolution or what we have come to understand as “modern times”. These P.I in particular have been well suited for modern times because of their focus on economics, and power.
Power and leadership takes different forms depending on the rules and policies enacted in the nation. Royal lineages have always played an important role in leading a hereditary type of leadership. Leadership in Egypt was acquired through inheritance upon death of the Pharaoh; a successor would be put into power. China has a similar type of inheritance. Leadership was acquired through inheritance. For example, upon the death of Tai Tsung, Koa Tsung took over as the next
History has given us an example of many different ideologies for different forms of government. Out of the three: conservatism, nationalism, and socialism, socialism had the greatest negative impact on world history because it took away the rights of the individual. Conservatism and socialism both focus on social stability, but socialism tends to focus more on the good of the state as opposed to the individual citizens. And while nationalism and socialism both focus on loyalty and pride, socialism forces its obedience at any coast. “When the government fears the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny.”(Thomas Jefferson)
It is human nature to see those who are different and group them into distinct categories. The distinction of Individualism versus Collectivism is one that is currently being studied extensively. On one side, individualism sees individuals as the fundamental unit of a society. Individuals are supposed to be unique, independent, and most importantly, willing to put their own interests above all others. On the other hand, collectivism views the basic building block of society as social groups, stressing the interpersonal bonds between people. Collectivist values dictate that group goals and values have higher precedence than an individual’s. Due to the seemingly polar opposite nature of these ideologies, it is inevitable that they will be compared to see which is more beneficial to the country and its people. Some might point to the success of the US, an extremely individualistic country, in support of individualistic values. They will point to the freedom of choice and diversity that individualism boasts of. Others stress the flaws of the US in response, and while both sides do have their truths, the costs that come with individualistic values are too great to be ignored. Highly individualistic attitudes have caused many large scale problems which have long been identified as difficult to resolve issues. These problems include, but are not limited to, promoting aggressive acts, creating an obsession with social power, and allowing a system of injustice to be born.
Through this examination of ideas, a conclusion may be made concerning the ideal form of government to preside over society today. In his famous writing, “The Leviathan”, Thomas Hobbes explains that the natural condition of mankind is when a society lives together without the rule of a common authority or power; this creates a “dog-eat-dog” world in which the citizens live in a perpetual state of utter chaos and fear. The fears experienced by the citizens are not only of the unequal distribution of the power of others, but also fear of the loss of their own power. In Hobbes’ state of nature there is complete liberty for society in the idea that each member may do whatever he or she pleases without having to worry about infringing upon the rights of the rest of society; in other words, one is allowed to do whatever necessary to pursue their own happiness. However, there is no guarantee of safety and protection from that same power which is granted to every other member of society.... ...
...nstead the state consists of rulers who behave like subjects and subjects who behave like rulers. The people begin to desire a strong leader, who will make the difficult decisions for them and bear the consequences: the Democracy has become a Tyranny.
...ilitarianism, like any other ‘list of rules’ approach to morality can be wrong in certain situations and encourages people to blindly follow rules.
The Traits theory, otherwise known as the Great Man theory, is the origination of leadership theories. This theory believes that there is a unique set of qualities for a leader, mainly: his intelligence and ability to judge, his knowledge power, self-confidence and dependabil...
Humans act on subjective meaning and world views of humans determine their behavior. Each individual’s behavior slowly becomes patterned and regulated. Each individual’s actions altogether create a collective institution for society. The iron cage, therefore, is an unintended result of the growing rationalist thinking in western capitalist societies. Weber uses the iron cage metaphor to explain social order and society. As society developed, rationalist and efficient thinking rose and this resulted in the growth of bureaucracies. A bureaucracy is designed as the most dominant form of social organization based on efficiency, rationalism, and control. In a bureaucracy, there is a set of rules which favors rational principles directed towards a goal. The bureaucracy gave rise to the iron cage which is a metaphor for people in western capitalist societies who are trapped within a dogma of efficiency and practicality. This type of thinking limits individual human freedom and potential because they way the institution is built, it doesn’t allow humans to have a...
The Struggle All Seniors Face As the summer before senior year comes to an end, many seniors began to be affected by a disease called Senioritis as they return to school. *Senioritis occurs at different times for different students, but at some point, all seniors feel the need to be done with high school. * Many seniors will struggle to get through their last year of high school, but they need to realize how important it is to finish strong. The poor decisions they make can negatively impact seniors in many ways, both short and long term. Senioritis is “an ebbing of motivation and effort by school seniors as evidenced by tardiness, absences, and lower grades”.
...at whether this person is a good or bad leader does not matter, as long as the individual is born into the monarch and the ruling family. This causes trouble among people, because the leader is final and cannot be changed, even if the leader is bad for the society.
...arning and wisdom, is indeed much like a fair ship, having wind and tide at will” (doc.3). Monarchs with strong leadership are the basis of educated government officials, which ultimately lead to stronger, more confident countries. The citizens of these powerful countries were impacted by influential leaders who created superior lives for everyone.
“The combination of all these causes forms so great a mass of influences hostile to individuality that it is not easy to see how it can stand its ground. It will do so with increasing difficulty unless the intelligent part of the public can be made to feel its value, to see that it is good there should be differences.” (208, Mill) People who always think new ideas go thru a harsh path, but they learn from their mistakes and experiences, and keep moving forward and in the end those who do make it, make society
