Long ago printed books were a technology in itself, people marveled at it that written scripts can be available in printed form and they can read and easily carry them instead of those baked tablet scripts or writing found on leaves and tree trunks. Books cultivated a culture, made discoveries, promoted imaginations and intellectual progress with their power to share and shape ideas. Printed books are a technology in itself and generations have learned and grown and is still growing with books in their hands.
But today’s generation are at crossroads, rapidly advancing and observing transformations of technology which promises to fundamentally change the way they access and read the written words. We have very well seen and observed a major revolution of printed books towards the digital books.
The debate between the choice for printed books or digital book is evolving each day and is getting complicated too, that do we publish and read the book in print, digitally or both?
In choosing printed form especially hardcover books we belief we are choosing longevity and tangibility. It’s actually the readers choice, if he is an avid fan of printed book he may claim that there is nothing like the feeling of a printed book, the smell of paper, rustic feeling of creating imagination from one page to the other is believed to be created by printed book and cannot be derived from the cold electronic eBook version.
But on the other hand today and in future students preference consist of digital handheld devices that simultaneously can read biology, psychology, physics, calculus and many more.
Today schools and students their selves are shifting towards digital course material and leaving heavy textbooks a thing of past. With many ...

... have exceeded our expectations, their ability to improve the classroom is unmistakably astonishing. A tablet is a tool for communication and not just in the form of verbal communication but also physical communication.Teachers and students are able to touch and analyze problem with the use of tablets. This could not be done by using a traditional textbook. They have also proven to be more cost effective and better for the environment.Textbooks are great but they have their limitations. This is the reason why tablets are the future.Tablets will remove those limitations found using a textbook.Touching and learning in an engaging way will never be possible with the use of a textbook, it has been proven and tested by reputable experts that tablets will be the dominate utensil in the classroom.Soon textbooks will be obsolete and tablets will be the only tool for learning.
Books today are everywhere. We find them in many households, libraries and schools all around the globe. We find many different types of books; from stories to educational textbooks, we regard them today as sources of knowledge and amusement. But it wasn’t the case before 1455. That year, one of the greatest inventions in human history was revealed to the world; Gutenberg’s printing press. This press allowed printing in massive quantity, spreading books all around Europe and the rest of the world at a fast rate. The printing press had many positive consequences on society. At first, it standardized grammar and spelling, and then introduced the mass production of books. It finally inspired future printing technologies around the world.
This source considers the issue of converting to digital books, specifically as it pertains to the effect that this change would have on the global environment. Although the research does recognize that there are disadvantages to not having a physical copy of a book and to abandoning certain platforms that do not transfer well to a digital form, overall, these researchers conclude that publishers should move towards digital products not only for the sake of cheaper long-run costs, but also for the good that going paperless can do for the environment. By displaying a series of graphs, as well as including multiple data sets, the text explains how e-books compare with printed texts; then, analysis of these facts is also included to show the reader the authors’ point.
In addition, textbooks are heavy to carry around and it takes longer to find a page. Likewise with digital textbooks they are compatible with tablets, smartphones, and laptops; it’s much easier to carry around and affordable price. However, some people may argue that digital textbooks can be a distraction for people because they would not bother read anymore. The author and poet Dana Gioia argues that electronics alternatives may be a bad influence that will lead society to not read anymore. Gioia complicates matters further when she writes, “While no single activity is responsible for the decline in reading, the cumulative presence and availability of electronic alternatives increasingly have drawn Americans away from reading” (161). I think Gioia is mistaken because she overlooks on electronics being a bad influence; but doesn’t see the benefits of electronics. To demonstrate, most of my textbooks are digital, which I can easily carry my tablet around where ever I go. Also, I save more money on digital textbooks and are simple to annotated the text. Journalist Ellen Lee interview a student from Liberty University, and he states that he prefers digital textbooks because he can tap his iPad, opens the digital copy and quickly open the page. Nevertheless, he also like digital textbooks because it has a feature that allows to highlight and mark the
How much better would it be for students to carry one tablet as opposed to several heavy books? Because of the ability to constantly customize, update and tailor learning, many schools are starting to go digital. Printed textbooks should be replaced by tablets for three main reasons: tablets increase student interactivity and creativity, they improve grades and responsibility, and provide students with more up-to-date information.

Reading printed books have many benefits to it. A piece of evidence that can related to this is that “the book is the oldest technology, we say. Look! It doesn’t even have batteries! “While it is true that more books are sold today than ever, recent statistics show that only about 15% of books bought today are read. Evidently, they are of more use as furniture—coffee-table books—than as a source of information or aesthetic buzz. The statistics continue; of those that are read, less than 20% are read all the way through. The unfinished book symbolizes the state of attention spans today”. Eric McLuhan opens up his 2010 argument against technology with this quote. He seems to believe that literacy is only fully achieved through limited technology and hard copies of books. He fails to realize there is more to literacy that picking up a book defined as a ‘classic’ and reading it cover to cover. Literacy covers all spans of artistic
During the past few years, the publishing and reading world has been facing a veritable digital book onslaught. E-books have been outselling print books on Amazon since 2011 (Polanka, 7). While digital book sales skyrocketed, print book sales, especially those of mass marked paperbacks, diminished. Even the fact that e-books are not much cheaper than print books does not seem to interfere with the former’s popularity. It would seem that the age of print books is about to end, and quite soon.
A book which is the crystallization of human wisdom is a medium product for getting knowledge. We are interesting to know which one is better printed book or electronic book, and the reasons.
Some years ago, with the arrival of digital technology, the process of reading has been changed to make it easier for everybody; therefore digital books are replacing the actual physical books. In spite of the fact that paper books and digital books are very similar in some ways, such as tittle pages, copyright page, covers, chapters or tables of contents; they present a visual and a sensory difference. In fact, they have a similar action that gives benefits but drawbacks at the same time. Paper books are tangible, accomplishment, easy to share; they have a unique aroma, and a sensitive side. But people should take in consideration that digital books are the better choice, because they are portable, convenient, cheap in price, and easy to manipulate, not to mention that anybody is able to have an bunch of them in only one file, either their phones or
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.
