Failure is a big part of life. Everyone fails to improve. Even famous people had failed, and look where it got them now. In the Scope magazine article “Should Libby’s Dad Do her project?,” Libby thinks her dad should do her school project for her so she can get a good grade. Her father believes it would better for Libby if she does it on her own. Libby needs to do her school project herself so she can learn more, Libby needs to know that she can recover from failure, some famous people also recovered from their failure and she needs to know that failure is apart of life.
One reason why Libby should do it herself is because even if she fails, she could gain confidence. Libby’s dad said, “Losing taught me that I could recover from failure, which gave me the confidence to push myself and try new things” (27). This means that Libby can learn from this experience. This is one reason why Libby’s dad should not do her project.

That's how they became famous, by failing and retrying. In the article Libby’s father said “Plenty of famous people have had their share of epic fails too” (27). This means that Libby can fail too and be successful. This is another reason why Libby’s dad should not do her project.
My last reason why Libby should do it herself is that it was an good idea for her father letting her fail, because she needs to learn that failure is apart of life. In the article Libby’s father said “So don’t put so much pressure on yourself, Lib. There will be other opportunities to get seen by scouts. And even if you don't end you playing basketball in college, I know you're going to do amazing things in your life” (27). This means that she will have more opportunities when she get older. This is my last reason why I think Libby’s dad should not do her
Failures can be more important than accomplishments because it makes us learn from our mistakes. Rosalyn makes mistakes even after being in her position for 10 years. Rosalyn was kind enough to share one of her failures with me. She had an idea to do payday loans, which caused the pawn shop to lose a great amount of money. A payday loan is an amount of money lent at a high rate of interest on the agreement that it will be repaid when the borrower receives their next paycheck. Many customers canceled their paychecks or did not pay the pawn shop back. Ms. Byrd still admits fault to this day for the loss of
After reading Failure is Not an Option by Nathan Wallace, we ponder whether failure is beneficial or not. However, after reading the passage, we stumble upon a quote where Wallace says “Failure is always an option. Failure can lead to great learning and progress when a specific failure is analyzed through the lens of a growth mindset.”
My biggest accomplishment throughout high school so far has been learning how to fail. Not necessarily falling flat on my face in a viral video, but instead just barely coming up short and not being able to reach a goal, despite my best efforts. Although I was unaware of it at the time, failing my driver’s test on my first attempt would become a life altering incident.
In today’s society “failure” is dreaded by most people. In 2013 Oprah Winfrey deliver “The Harvard Commencement Speech” and in 2008 she spoke “The Stanford Commencement Speech,” which both spoke about overcoming failure. Throughout these speeches, the audience learns that failure is something everyone will experience. Winfrey teaches readers that failure may hurt, but failure helps everyone learn from their mistakes and allows them to become a better person. Winfrey tells readers about a time when she failed and instead of feeling sorry for herself, she allowed herself to exceed expectations and change her failure into something spectacular. Oprah Winfrey is an effective speaker because she uses rhetorical devices and
In conclusion, never giving up is one of the most important lessons that you can learn in your life time. This was shown in the novel “Lesson Before Dying” by the characters Jefferson, Miss Emma, and Grant. Jefferson learned to become a man before he died. Jefferson finally showed everyone that he did not give up on life like how everyone thought he did. Miss Emma pushed her old fragile body in order to help Jefferson. Miss Emma demonstrated
And if it is true that the lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success then I am right. This is where my path to success really begins. It is never late to start again. Small things that aren’t so small can have a big repercussion in someone's life. We as human beings need to learn how to be more loving, respectful and compassionate. I am so proud to be who I am today because of this past experiences. I believe almost everybody has had a time in their lives in which they failed, nobody is perfect. Failure indeed can be fundamental to later success, but the expectations of success are not what people think, at least for me, but I certainly know I'm not
Once she heard the plan she should have just said no and walked off, or she could have said yes but went behind the groups back and told a trusted adult what was going on. She went with everything they said, believing them and lying to herself that everything was going to fine in the end. She believed people she didn’t know really, they had one class together, but that didn’t mean she knew anything about them other than what was told to her or what she saw. She should have never said yes to going to the picnic, because if she hadn’t she wouldn’t have had to lie to everyone else and feel guilty because of something that she should have never been apart of. This is the third and final reason why she is naive. Had she not been naive, things would have gone differently and Mr. Griffin would have never
After finishing the book Insurgent, the reader is left with many significant morals to take away from the story. Some of the lessons shown are that you should always do what is right, people are stronger together, and you should overcome your fears. Firstly, when Tris is conflicted between following her boyfriend and completing the task her parents strived to accomplish, she knows she needs to follow her instincts. Although it is a difficult decision to make, she acknowledges, “He thinks I will be here, but I will be working against him, working with the father he despises. This lie – this lie is the worst I have ever told. I will never be able to take it back” (425). This quotation shows an example of how even though she feels terrible
In Failure Is a Good Thing, author Jon Carroll refers to failure as a learning experience. Carroll explains that failure is needed for growth, that failure may keep a person “on their toes” so that they may never get too comfortable with what they are doing. He also goes on to state that failure is something that we should all strive for, ironically, in order to feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Carroll refers to his family, his friends, and his own experiences with failure and how they solidify his beliefs. Jon talks about his job as a columnist and how every week someone’s column has to be the lesser column.
In the essay, “The Art of Failure”, the author discusses why people “choke”, “panic”, and “fail” under pressure. The writer draws references to people such as, Jana Novotna, Ephimia Morphew, and John F. Kennedy Jr., where he then evaluates their reactions during crucial timings of their lives. By receiving insight about these stories, he then draws a conclusion that he later divulges back to the audience in his work. Throughout this essay, I will also shed light on the matter by offering my own perspective.
We need failure it's okay to be wrong sometimes it gives us a back bone. The author talks about a friend that he has that didn't know how to be wrong Pg 88, para 5 ( Roger Von Oech ) “She went through eighteen years . . . new ideas. Therefore the author‘s friend didn’t want to try new things because she didn't want to fail because she was afraid. This shows me that being right all the time isn’t everything it doesn’t allow one to have a backbone. If one wants to be confident in trying new things you should be open to making mistakes. Pg 88, para 8 (Roger Von Oech) “As Yaz would put it ‘ If you want the hits, be prepared for the misses’.” In other words, in order to success, you must fail along the way. This quote confirms the fact that being right isn’t a thing to be afraid of. Failure could be good it makes good practice to help us grow from past mistakes and find the new direction. Pg 90, para 15 (Roger Von Oech) “ We learn by trial and error, not by trial and rightness. If we did things correctly every time, we would never have to change direction- we’d just continue the current course and end up with more of the same” According to this quote error is needed in order to find a new course. Trial and error are stepping stones trial and rightness just brings you back to where you started. Being wrong allows us to ask questions and find out why we make certain
Everyone in life experiences failure. It can affect people positively or negatively and that all depends on how they react to the experience. If one lets their failure overcome their dreams, it will lead them in the wrong path. But if one views their failures as a motive to succeed and grow, then they are on their way to becoming successful. For me, I let my failures in life help build onto my character and define the person I am today. My childhood injury is my example as I let this moment affect the outcome of my dreams I had then.
He went home, locked himself in his room and cried. But now he owns six MBA champions, and 5 MBA MVPs; that moment of getting cut from his high school basketball team become nothing. Walt Disney was fired from his first job because people said he is lacked of imagination and had no original idea; this man is now the creator of the biggest company on producing cartoon and children entertainment, Disney. This man failed in business twice and was defeated in eight elections. With all of his effort and never giving up when things get hard he became the tenth president of the United States; this name named is Abraham Lincoln. Those people are examples of overcoming failure and become successful. They did not let the pain of failure stop them from being successful. They keep fighting and thrive for victory. Those are examples of failure is only help people to reach their goal sooner or later. What matter is how hard you try and how bad you want to be success.
“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space” (Johnny Cash). People, in order to prosper in life, need to accept that they failed and try harder the next time. When I was a third grader, family issues robbed my focus during school. I just didn’t feel like trying in the classroom. I thought learning was a waste of time. In May, my parents received a call from the school saying that I was going to have to repeat the year. When this happened, I was livid that the school would fail me back a grade. I blamed everyone but myself. Later in life, I realized failing third grade put me back on to the path of success. For me personally, failing third grade was unfortunate, but I can’t say that I didn’t benefit from it. This experience made me have to learn from my misstep and exert myself harder in order to succeed.
It doesn’t matter if they are failing or success, the only thing matter is how hard people are trying during the process. The value of success will worth and have respect after they walk through failure. It’s important on how people stand up after they failed, not how they failed, because everyone will fail at least one time on their life. A good example of people who fail but they stand up and learn from it is people who play sport. At first time of playing, no one will good at sport. Sometime they make a common mistake when they start play but if they learn from it, they won’t make that same mistake again during the game. To have that success they have to make mistake and fail during the practice so they can learn from it and practice to overcome their failure. But people who never fail when they play, they may make a common mistake on the
