At present, since the technology have already become one of the most significant parts of people’s lives, the educational system is also changing by utilizing high-tech. Nevertheless, an issue happens because of the argument between both Digital Natives and Immigrants teacher regarding using technology in class. Teachers who are young generations think computers and projectors will assist them in their teaching approach; however, Digital Immigrants are still accustomed to their old-fashioned way, using book and notebooks for teaching. In my opinion, Digital Immigrants should start utilizing technology in class, and there are three methods could assist them.
To begin with, providing teacher training for older generations is one approach to improve their skills of using technology. To be more specific, not only will teachers learn a totally different way of teaching, but they also could be enlightened by utilizing high-tech. For example, most of the teachers in China, who teach at primary and secondary schools, even university, no matter

First, the efficiency of work will be promoted if older teachers use technology. Nowadays, a large number of older teachers’ time is saved for they will type instead of write on the notebook for preparing classes, and don’t need to write on board but showing documents by projectors and TVs for students. Also, if both students and teachers have emergencies like canceling class, texting or sending emails will be the most time-saving way to inform. Second, using technology to giving grades and comments for students is a good idea. For instance, Canvas is one of the most significant web systems for students in studies at Case Western Reserve University, for it is convenient for students could learn their due dates of assignments and grades of homework. Thus, without technology, Digital Immigrants cannot enjoy convenience and efficiency while
Over the past few decades technology has advanced quite a bit. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased significantly. In a large scale, technology is replacing the method of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, who is a professor at Yale University as well as a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests to limit the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom” which was published in the New Republic magazine in 1994. In this article he offers well illustrated analysis which makes the readers to regulate the use of technology in the classroom. He thinks that the technology comes in a way of building strong foundation of basic skills. He insists that computers should be used to aid the learning process, not to replace cognitive thinking.
The article, How and Why Digital Generation Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Study, discusses the use of technology in the classroom. Traditional teachers have been viewed as an obstacle to introducing technology in the classrooms. It is also believed that this issue will resolve once the technological generation of teachers enter the profession.
Where ever you live and whatever grade you teach, technology has made it into the lives of teachers and students. Whether it is an ebook, laptop, iPad, computer, or Smartboard, they all have brought teaching literacy to a new level. These tools are not going to leave our classrooms, if anything they will impact the learning at new and higher levels. There will come a day, and I think it will be soon, that every student will have access to their own technology devices at school and at home. As teachers, we need to embrace technology and try and stay ahead of our students if possible.
Lee introduces the topic of his presentation by a statement “…We live in the age of Info-whelm.” He explains this statement by summarizing an example of a study conducted in 2003 by researches from Berkley University in California. The researches collected all the data available digitally to today’s generations and found the amount of data available online would be about 5 x the amount of books available in Library of Congress, which is the largest Library in the world. He is explaining this fact to introduce a problem of today’s education and the actual preparedness of the next generation to the job market. He explains how today’s students and even young children are able to process and comprehend digital information. He present several examples of studies conducted to proof how today’s generation is capable to absorb digital image 60 000 x more than generations before them. Lee is effectively using illustrations and images throughout his whole presentation. He explains that today style of lectures in teaching is obsolete and ineffective. He declares how students today are being thought and prepared for jobs of the pass. He urges the educators to provide new sets of skills and tests, and new style of teachings for the future generations. He offers several solutions to prepare present and new generation for future jobs. He proposes teaching
For the teacher, computer technology can lead to more efficient time management in record keeping and developing lessons plans as well as the ease of conducting any kind of research and communication without having to leave the classroom.
The Digital Student course offered many resources, ideas and theories for a teacher of the 21st century to implement into their classrooms and daily lesson planning. It calls for the teachers of today, many of whom grew up in a traditional 20th century classroom, to become more familiar with technology and use it appropriately to reach our 21st century learners. Not only does it ask us to reflect on and improve our teaching methods and styles for the digital student, but also our environments. Teachers need to become comfortable with the technology in their classrooms and in the world around them because a student of the 21st century needs to learn to use these tools and resources properly and learn from them. The needs of our youth and
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
The last, the future of the new technology’s existence in the educational system will not be optimistic. The authors discussed the new technology change and update fast, that could cause the negative effect to students and teachers. They still prefer to use the “old technology” in learning and teaching . I agree with their concept because China had a big problem about using technology, and I studied in China several years. In China, the understanding of the new technology is so ignorant because of the poor education, shortage of technology. In education, the teachers and students do not understand how to use the computer technology to improve their teaching and learning rapidly. In short, understanding of the new technology and application skills are more important to adjust educational system in developing countries.
Technology enables students and teachers to have a fast and easy way to acquire unlimited access to tons of information. With all of the useful technologies, the curriculum is bound to change in endless ways, creating more opportunity for learning.
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
This age is dedicated to more of learning age. It is said that even the teachers are the learner. This is the age of knowledge gradually shifted towards the age of communication. Thought and ideas are playing a crucial role in the present 21st century. The period when the denial and ignorance was the answer to the learner’s inquisitiveness has no solution. The answer to these questions is the technology which has solved problem to very much extend. People call such kind of change where teachers are supported with the technological tools to prove their worth. It does not say that previous centuries teachers were not efficient or they do not have that kind of knowledge. In the present time, the knowledge has got the support of the technology to explore. The learners are satisfying their requirements to the larger extend. The technological tool such as internet has shown great difference. The use of videos and photographs, 3D picture support, animations and documentaries and use of computers especially has changed the whole scenario. The most advanced version we have seen are the mobiles and the various applications which are loaded in mobile has taken the world in strong fist. The laptops are converting into the interactive machines which are loaded with n number of facilitation.
Based on what I have read, technology effectiveness is a highly debated and argued topic among educators. There are many myths and misconceptions that even I myself have argued about technology use. For example, I always assumed that because I was a young, new teacher and used technology that most teachers who used technology were new and young like me. According to the article Research dispels common ed-tech myths, this idea is not the case. Veteran teachers are just as likely to use technology as new, young teachers (eSchool News Staff, 2010). A 2009 survey by Grundwald associates, found that as many as 34% of teachers were infrequent technology users compared to 22% who claimed that they used technology frequently, more than a third of their class time. This number is astounding to me. The research in this article seems to argue that even among those who do use technology in the classroom, many use it for tasks such as email, word processing, or games. Very few classrooms seem to be using the technology for actual learning and teaching.
They relieve the teacher from the daily tasks. The use of ICT also brought progress in learning, particularly in subjects that many learners found difficult to assimilate. For Elaraby op.cit ICT makes the class more vivacious and more interesting with a great potential to enhance teachers achievement and students learning. Wong (2006) has pointed out that technology can have the biggest impact between the teacher and the student in face-to-face teaching and learning inside the classroom. It can help also students to get knowledge in a fast way, with reducing the big number of instruction given to them. In this sense, ICT can also be an assistance in student learning .According to Grabe & Grabe (2007, p 236) ICT can have a role in student skills, motivation and knowledge; they claim that ICT can helps the students in presenting information and completing learning tasks (ac cited in Bingimals
As a college student who would like to become a teacher, I believe that technology will help a child. All children learn differently, and technology is to help the children who have no other place to go. Some children are just unable to learn from a teacher, that is when technology plays a big role. Some children have to show themselves how to do things and technology will allow that.
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
