Introduction There are thousands of models of shotguns, who knows how to choose which one for the right job? The most common gauges of shotgun are 10,12,16,20, and 410. This experiment can test any of those gauges against each other, but the two that were tested in this experiment were the 12 gauge and the 20 gauge, as they are often compared for different jobs. If that’s confusing, don’t worry, it won’t be after this paper. Now, there is a ton of terminology involved with shotguns and the experiment, so it’s pretty dumbed down to the basics. (2) The gauge of a shotgun is the term used to define the interior diameter of the barrel of the shotgun. Well, every hunter wants to know what the best tool for their game, that’s just a fact. If someone is building a house, they’re not going to use a hammer to saw a plank of wood, much like no one would try to hunt a black bear with a can of bug spray. Also, home defense is a reality that everyone has to face in the USA. Whether it’s a crazy guy hopped up on drugs trying to break in or a mountain lion patrolling someone’s propriety, the family being attacked is at risk. Shotguns provide excellent home defense with the ability to stop the threat with a single shot, using the correct ammo type of course. And if more pellets hit, the greater chance they have at stopping the threat. Back to hunting, a shotgun is a perfect choice as a versatile way to hunt several types of pray, because of the dozens of different shell loads and types of ammunition, going back to choosing the best tool for the job, pick the right ammo for the right game. Using data similar to the experiment that was conducted, gunsmiths have been able to make better and better weapons with less weight, tighter spread, less kick, and so much more.
