An Interesting Short History of BB Guns
Before beginning about the history of ball bearing or bullet ball guns, which are referred to as BB guns in short, let’s take a quick peep at some of the most interesting facts about air guns:
1. The first air powered gun came into existence in the 1950s.
2. Daisy, which is one of the most renowned air guns company, did not start out by manufacturing BB guns. It began its business by manufacturing windmills.
3. The first pneumatic gun was manufactured for Henry IV of France.
The term ‘BB’ was coined referring to the size of steel balls that are used in a shotgun shell, which is almost of the same size. While earlier these were known as round shots, the name BB shots gained a lot of popularity. In fact they were so famous that even the gun or rifle used to fire them were termed as BB guns.
Talking about the history of BB guns brings much scope for pointing out as many interesting facts related to BB guns, as possible. Therefore, it must be mentioned without fail that the first BB was actually a shotgun shot, which was sized no more than .180 i...
The Kansas City Gun Experiment was a study that took place between 1992 and 1993. The goal of the study was to examine if increased police patrol in a “hot spot” of the city would help to reduce the amount of gun-related crime. The data collected by the research team was solely quantitative as it mainly consisted of statistics and other data numerical in nature of the increase/decrease of gun violence in these beats. After the twenty-nine week period of the study, the experiment’s findings showed that an increase in police patrol, as well as seizure of illegally carried guns, did help to eliminate gun-related crimes.

One of Colt's best inventions was the revolving cylinder which led to his company to expand to its full potential. During the 1830’s Samuel Colt was a sailor for the ship Carlo where he got the idea for the revolving cylinder from the wheel to turn the boat(Kirkland 6). In 1868 to 1871 Colt made the Thuer it came in a 44 and 36 cal that came in a metallic cartridge that did not infringe on Smith and Wesson’s patent(Lee). Like every good inventor you have mistakes but Colts first handgun that he made blew up in his hand. But that mistake gave him the chance to improve and expand his design for the modern day revolver(Kirkland 6). In 1836 Samuel Colt produced the first working and patented revolver(Kirkland 9-11). In 1855 elisha K. Root was hired by Samuel Colt to reengineer his revolving rifles. She made the rifle in to a solid frame and she made the Root Model 1855(Austerman). Another gun that Samuel Colt made was the dragoon it came in a .36 ,.34 ,.31 ,and a .28 caliber pistol most of these were sold to civilians in 1850’s(Lee). Lastly Samuel Colt named this pistol the Dragoon because for centuries men who attacked ...
The weapons of choice of the United States consisted of the Colt 1911 and the M1 Garand. The Colt 1911 was a huge caliber pistol with a .45 ACP scorching down the barrel. It packed a huge punch when it hit you, but only at close quarters, its effective range was only 246 feet. The M1 Grand also was a big caliber with the 30-06 Springfield, that rifle could break your shoulder if you were not careful. It had great range; it was effective up to 3,954 feet.
Each shot couldn’t be more than inches from the center of the bull’s eye. At the end of these contests, 1,000 winners were enlisted in the 1st United States sharper shooters. The next generation of breechloaders, called magazine rifles, would prove ever more deadly to confederate opponents. “Guns such as Spencer and Henry repeating rifles were designed to carry preloaded magazine of seven to fifteen bullets which could be inserted into the rear of the gun. ”3
Remington quickly grew and was seen as a leading firearm which then expanded its firearm goods by creating the first hammerless auto-loading shotgun, as well as many their own repeating firearms. As the array of firearms created by Remington grew, more interest was put into the company, and therefore in 1865 it was formed into a stock company.
The ballista, or "shield piercer," was first developed by the Greeks using the same principles as a bow and arrow. Its primary use was to, as the name suggests, pierce enemy shields, since normal bows lacked the power to do so. Early versions of the ballista include the gastrophetes, which is nothing more than an enlarged bow that can be braced against the users body.
A majority of weapons used in World War II were improved weapons from World War II. Most guns increased in power and abilities. In World War II people thought that pistols were useless but this was proved wrong due to the fact that the U.S. Mi...
Without the mini-ball invented in the civil war there would be less death. Due to the creation of the mini-ball death rates skyrocketed. When you got shot by one the survival chance was low. The mini-ball ripped through tissue and broke bones and was made to change the war and to kill the target after getting hit.
The greatest advantage of the early rifles was that the weapon could be mastered in a matter of months, but it could take up to ten years to master the bow. Eventually the muskets overtook the battlefield, replacing t...

“Volley Guns” (Chivers, 2010, p.26) or also known as “Organ Guns” (Ellis, 1975, p.10) were first attempts at increasing firepower by adding several barrels at the firing itself, rather than simply attempting to increase the rate of fire. “Gunsmiths had long ago learned to place barrels side by side on frames to create firearms capable of discharging projectiles in rapid succession. These unwieldy devices, or volley guns, were capable in theory of blasting a hole in a line of advancing soldiers” (Chivers, 2010, p.26). An example of such weapons can be seen on July 28, 1835 when Giuseppe Fieshi unleashed terror on King Louis-Phillipe in Paris, France. He fired his 25 barrel “volley gun”, killing 18 of the king's entourage and grazing the King's skull. The weapon was ineffective however. Four of the barrels failed and another four ruptured. Two other barrels had exploded inside, grievously wounding Giuseppe. (Chivers, 2010, p. 27)
The developments of gunpowder and the cannon were the most important advances during the Middle Ages. If it weren't for these inventions, who knows how we would be fighting today, possibly still the wars of Ancient Rome. The development of gunpowder meant that soon the use of knights would be useless because of the projectile that could easily knock a knight off his horse, rendering him helpless. The gunpowder enabled this projectile. The development of the cannon goes hand-in-hand with the gunpowder. This invention enabled things to be projected by the use of gunpowder. This invention also stopped sieges, which ended the need of city-walls. The crude versions of these weapons were used during the Hundred Years War, between England and France. Eventually these inventions paved the way for the modern gun and other inventions like bombs. These developments were truly the most important things that came out of the Middle Ages.
