Lots of policemen came there, stared taking pictures and gathering evidence, because the man in a trance, dashed into police station, and his whole body was splashed with blood. “ I murdered a girl!” he said and with a toneless voice.

One of the main factors of this was the neglect of her parents. It was not stated directly but the fact that her parents did not know what was g...
Inspiration and role models are two important factors which influence the behaviour and actions of others. In fact, The American Civil rights Movement (in particular, the Freedom Ride of United States) inspired Australia to go forward in the journey of Indigenous Australia. This resulted in The Australian Freedom Ride.
Daisy’s face was filled with fear as she slowly stood up and walked around the room. “She was…she was killed?” Daisy questioned in a trembling voice.
the end she said, "I behaved badly. I know I did. I'm ashamed of it."
As patriotic Australians we pride ourselves to be a nation that accepts and respects the beliefs of all cultures, but on this historical day majority of Australians tend to forget the true meaning behind the celebration. If you ask today’s society, what they did this Australia day mass numbers would respond with “binged on alcohol” and “indulged in a barbecue.” Consequently, this day cannot be called a national celebration when some of our fellow Australians are grieving while others are out celebrating an occasion they know little about. Giving due regard to the indigenous people and their mostly negative perspective on this issue, should be a priority. A new date, not the 26th of January should be established, as rather than unite, it seems
In this opinion piece, the writer, Dick Smith emotional expresses and exerts the “truth” of Australia Day, suggesting it should be named First Fleet Day contrastingly. Throughout the article Smith strongly expresses his stance on the issue, and attempts to persuade the reader by noting how the day of celebration traditionally makes Aboriginals feel. Smith’s tone is ever changing during the duration of the piece, changing to a more emotive and respectful tone when talking about the Aboriginals and what they have done to “nurture and sustain” our country. As Smith changes arguments as does his tone, when establishing his clear and coherent view point, his tone is very forthright and blunt. Readers of this piece are positioned to both understand
This is the first sign that we can trust this narrator to give us an even-handed insight to the story that is about to unfold. But, as we later learn, he neither reserves all judgments nor does his tolerance reach its’ limit.
Australia Day, celebrated on the 26th of January every year, is a nationally recognised day that signifies the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet. It’s a historic event that also marks the beginning of the oppression of the Indigenous people, that still can occur today, no matter how much the Government has tried to atone for the sins of the past. Australia Day is a day of celebration and mourning, a fact that contributes to the constant bickering between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous. There are many who believe that the meaning behind the modern Australia Day is overshadowed by the past, which will prevent the nation from moving forward, much like Ben Roberts-Smith who published an opinion piece in the Herald Sun on the 26th
They talked some more, all John could remember was that he had awoken, with an intense unsettling feeling and a wound on his head. His fingers ran along his wedding ring as he recalled the events of yesterday; John could not locate his wife. He had searched every room in his house. A chill ran through his body; he had not yet searched the basement. With shaky hands and one final yell of her name, he opened the door peering into the darkness beyond the stairs.
Examining James’s tale closer, it becomes certain that the narrative is constructed in such a demanding way that the reader is almost certain to fall in love with the governess. Even though this implied love is challenged in the events of the story, the governess’s tale leads the reader back to compassion for her misery. One can even say that sympathizing with the governess allows the reader to accept uncertainty, thus accept the terror. This terror comes from not knowing what the governess has done, this terror outwardly haunts her to the day she died. But the governess did not let go even after her death, she passed on her horrific tale to Douglas, who in return became haunted. And presently, the tale comes to haunt its readers. This vicious circle of terror is never ending, and will continue to terrify many readers. Neither the governess, nor the reader can know if Miles was saved or just evi...
It is a story that provides the ultimate explanation of how two different people who are witnesses to a crime give completely different psychological recollections of the same event. The author reminds us that truth depends on the telling. Someone must step forward and tell that truth.
She's not sure what came over her at that minute, she doesn't even remember what she was thinking. But she does remember jumping on him, and knocking him to the floor, and then taking her knife and plunging it in and out of his back. She had no recollection of what happened for the next 10 minutes, perhaps she blacked out, but when she finally stood up, she knew what she had to do. She walked out to the garage and got a tarp down off the shelf. Her father used it to cover the wood pile, but she figured he probably wouldn't notice it was gone for a while. She took the tarp back into the kitchen and rolled the body on to it, checking to make sure that she didn't get blood onto anything that would be noticeably stained. The large pool of blood on the floor would be a problem, but she'd take care of that when she got back.
Recently the highly controversial date of Australia Day has been garnering much media attention after the decision by the Fremantle council to cease its celebrations on January 26th due to it being culturally insensitive. Supporters of having Australia Day on the 26th of January argue that it is merely a patriotic declaration of pride, whilst others condemn the date as a celebration of the massacre of a culture and its people.
