When writing for an assignment I always do multiple rough drafts. The first draft I write everything that comes to my mind first on paper. The second draft I type the writing out on the computer in word document to see the vision of my assignment clearly.. The last draft I re read and fix some of my mistakes. I agree with Lamott’s”Shitty First Drafts” with her stating that its important to write a couple rough drafts because the writing gets better each time its written. The purpose of this article is to use rough drafts. It’s important to write a couple of rough drafts, because you get better each time you write. Third time writing the draft is usually the charm. She shares how each draft adds a little more to what you’re trying to write about. She said all good writers have first draft, before completing an outstanding writing assignment. She is influenced from friends and other writers telling her to trust the draft progress. People need to learn the structures of writing before being creative. Creativity is both nature and nurture. Many believe revisions shouldn’t be made. I understand where Bishop and Starkey are coming from how the first draft is important, because the art and creativity is in the words written uncorrected. I never fix my first draft when it’s a personal writing assignment. The imagination and ideas that come to my mind when writing are important, because I only understand what I am trying to say in my writing. I can’t do that when writing for an audience because, they don’t understand my vision. The conflict was I had a different view of my creativity than my audience.
