After reading the article Sex With Children Is Abuse by Rind, Tromovitch and Bauserman I have come across that it has to do a great deal with “what is sexual child abuse” It seems that a lot of the article has to do with “grey” areas as to what and how the child was treated. They talk a lot about the CSA and what exactly the definition is and how it is controversial. The definition stated in the article says that it is classifying a behavior as abuse simply because it is generally viewed as immoral is problematic, and any classification may obscure the true nature of the behavior and its actual causes and effects. When I was growing up spanking was not considered child abuse because most parents or guardians did it when the child acted out. In today’s society spanking can be a form of child abuse and the child’s parents or guardians could potentially face consequences for their actions. I personally think some people take the definition of child abuse extremely far. I read an opinion article that they want to define child abuse as getting your daughters ears pierced before reaching the age of 3. In our society that would never happen and child services would step in immediately. In other countries and cultures that is the norm and people do not have a problem with it. I think that child abuse is different in all types of cultures, I can only speak for our society and culture today on what I think is right and wrong in child abuse. Unfortunately, I cannot judge another culture or country on what they think is right or wrong because what I do is right they may think is wrong. I do believe that child abuse should have a clear definition of what it is. Each culture or country may have their own definition on what it is but I think there should be some ground rules. I also feel that people may say how all of a sudden there is so much child abuse in the schools or in the churches, but I feel that child abuse has always been around. I think that people are more aware of what is going on because of social media and how they portray everything. Before social media became one of the biggest sources to find out information one would read it in the newspaper or word of mouth, now one person has to put it out on the Internet and the whole world finds
