While listening and reading “The Perils of Indifference” commentary by Elie Wiesel, I found the video and article very inspiring. The composition made me think about everyday issues we are indifferent to. In this essay I will be discussing the topic of child abuse in our society and how society deals with this issue. The main points of this essay will be focusing on different types of abuse. What is happening, how the children are dealing with it and how society reacts to it.
First off I am going to start with what is happening, and where it is happening. Child abuse happens everywhere, some places more severe than others. Any form of abuse should be brought to the light. Whether it is physical, mental, or sexual abuse, the cruelty is taking place in every corner of the world. Most third world countries have no laws for child labor, or how far you can take punishment. Even if there is laws in the country it is taking place in the adult might not get in as much trouble as I think they should. Now a days you can physically, mentally, sexually abuse and neglect your child with minimal punishment. Most of the abuse happens behind closed doors also. The caregiver usually threatens the children if they say they are going to tell someone. I believe that the stats online for child abuse are lower than they really are because children are afraid to talk about their situations.
In this second paragraph I will be talking about what abuse does to the children. Some may say that one type of exploitation is worse than others when it comes to adolescents. I feel as if no abuse should occur. After years of mistreatment children may have low self-esteem, the feeling that they have no way out, and may even try to commit suicide. It is very impo...

...e letting this happen to the children of the world. There are plenty of foundations trying to help raise awareness of it, but no one is really making a move on it. As a community we need to come together and tackle this problem head on. To try and defeat child abuse there has to be help from local police departments, local schools, and recreational centers. I believe if our community opens a safe environment for adolescents to escapes to, even if it is only for a few hours it might save a life. Having adults to open up to really makes a different in growing children’s life, especially if they are being abused.
In conclusion I hope this essay moved you in some way, and really made you think about indifference. Hopefully you take some time out of your day to do some research on the terrifying numbers of children being abused, and maybe make a donation to the cause.
The Anti-Federalist Party, led by Patrick Henry, objected to the constitution. They objected to it for a few basic reasons. Mostly the Anti-Federalists thought that the Constitution created too strong a central government. They felt that the Constitution did not create a Federal government, but a single national government. They were afraid that the power of the states would be lost and that the people would lose their individual rights because a few individuals would take over. They proposed a “Bill of Rights”, to make sure the citizens were protected by the law. They believed that no Bill of Rights would be equal to no check on our government for the people.
In the eyes of Elie Wiesel, author of Night, indifference whether it be in relationship abuse or another problem, is mentally damaging and needs to be eliminated. In his memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel illustrates how indifference can harm the mind of the victim when he says, “Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live,” (Night 34). In this, Wiesel is speaking of his first night in Auschwitz. When he mentions silence he is referring to the indifference that the Jews in concentration camps faced from the rest of the world. Wiesel refers to that night as the time he lost his desire to live because he saw so much indifference toward the suffering of the inmates and the horrific things that were happening to them. After this, his desire to stay alive was destroyed because he watched as the world stood by, indifferent to the senseless murder of millions. Throught this, Wiesel illustrates that indifference will impact people for the rest of their lives. Because indifference
Jewish American writer, Elie Wiesel in his reflectional speech, The Perils of Indifference, argues the danger of Indifference. He evolves his message through emphasizing the importance and danger of what indifference can do to a society. Specifically, Wiesel mentions, “So much violence, so much indifference.” Wiesel explains that freedom and equality were difficult to be found with so much hate in our world. Finally, he mentions, “Indifference, then, is not only a sin, it is a punishment.” He further describes that during the holocaust is different meant sinning. Wiesel’s purpose is to inform why indifference is inhuman to create awareness that being different than others is wrong and a sin. He establishes a thoughtful tone for readers by using stylistic devices such as syntax, imagery, and word choice to develop his message. Wiesel’s message about the inhumanity of indifference and the importance of resistance is still happening today.
The Anti-Federalists were led by George Mason, Elbridge Gerry, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, Mercy Otis Warren, Luther Martin, Robert Yeates, and George Clinton. The biggest flaw the Anti-Federalists found in the new constitution was that it did not include a Bill of Rights. The House of Representatives was the only group of governmental officials elected directly by the people and the Anti-Federalists believed the government is too far removed from the people to care for the people it's representing. Another concern of the Anti Federalists was how the government's powers were so vague and general that can give almost an infinite amount of power. The "necessary and proper" clause was one example of the government's vague powers, which gives the legislative body the ability to make all laws "necessary and proper." The new constitution did not include anything about how to stop the government from infringing on the rights it did not mention. This meant that the government could violate the freedom of speech, re...
The Anti-Federalists were not in favor of ratifying the new Constitution. Some Anti-Federalists wanted to keep the Articles of Confederation, others wanted to add some things and change some things in the new Constitution before they agreed to ratify it. Some very important Anti-Federalist’s were Patrick Henry, George Mason, and Richard Henry Lee. Anti-Federalists tended to be poorer and in lower classes than the Federalists. These people feared a central government and were afraid that the government proposed by the new Constitution could easily turn into a tyranny. The Federalists argued that the United States needed a strong central government in order to stand a chance against foreign powers, amongst other reasons that were all beneficial
Anti-federalists opposed the Constitution and one of their arguments was that the government had no power. Anti-federalists thought that
Child abuse is a serious crime, that if violated can come with many consequences, and rules. Reporting child abuse is a mandatory law enacted in 1978 (but amended many times) stating that people must report child abuse immediately1. This law was created to identify children that are victims of child abuse. Relating to the law the Department of Human Services has responsibility to access and investigate suspected child abuse. "Each year Department of Human Services investigators conduct 20,000 investigations involving 30,000 children (in the state of California).2" There are a lot of cases reported each year, involving innocent children, abused by their parents. Although there are thousands of cases reported each year, thousands go unreported. "Child abuse has serious consequences which may remain as indelible pain throughout the victims lifetime3" Child abuse can have permanent negative affects on the child, permanent affects that the child will never forget. The abuse can also bring a better side to the child, making the child wanting to be more independent. Child abuse is very common, and can affect any child of any race, color or religion.
Now that I had the chance to understand both points of views, I see why the Anti-Federalists were not thrilled to be pushed aside by the new constitution. There were illegal actions taken, leaving many people wondering if the Federalists were the best group of people to decide what laws the states had to follow. James Madison and other’s changed the constitution for the better. The Federalists were right in creating a new constitution because the nation needed and still needs a central government for each state to respond too and keep the
Around the late 1780s, America realized that the government it was using did not work. The States were divided, not together since the Articles of Confederation only loosely bound them together. Each State had different foreign treaties, different laws, even different money. The Constitution was proposed, which would transform the states into a united nation with a single, republican government. Two parties arose who disagreed over whether it should be ratified or not; the federalists and the anti-federalists. The federalists were in favor of unifying the states into one government. The anti-federalists, on the other hand, wanted to fix the Articles of Confederation instead of throwing them out and creating a new government. The two sides had

Author and survivor of the holocaust, elie wiesel in his reflective speech “The Perils of Indifference”, informs just how such an effect indifference can make. He supports his claim by expressing gratitude, providing examples of the effect of indifference as well as sharing a personal story. In addition , he explains just how the tragic event of a genocide could happen again if we ignore it. Wiesel's purpose is to inform and warn readers just what indifference can do and how we should be aware to stop any future tragic events like this . he establishes a formal yet serious tone by using stylistic devices such as rhetorical questions and imagery in order to achieve his message, about inhumanity of indifference, the importance of resistance and how its still relevant today.
Abuse can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. This is repetitive acts of behavior of wanting to maintain power and have control over someone whether it be through childhood, adolescents, or adulthood. This subject is sensitive as it impacts so many different people around the world. The topic of abuse is not just a family matter, it comes in all forms, such as sexual, emotional, and physical. Abuse is accompanied by the long term emotional tolls, especially on children because their brains are still developing and can take abuse harder than others. One question to ask, is how does one overcome abuse? As children and adolescents develop, how do they function emotionally and physically? These traumatic experiences that happen through
The effects of child abuse are multiple. The pain and trauma the abused child goes through is just a small part of how this cauldron of hidden depravity in our society affects all of us. Wrecked lives can be seen in persons of all ages and in all walks of life. Society as a whole is also effected by child abuse both in negative and positive ways. In this essay I will present some of the factor and results of this violent behavior on individuals as well as our culture.
All around the world children are being abused, in the united states about 5.5 million children are being abused, And that’s only 5.5 million here in the United states. Imagine all around the world how many kids that would add up to and how many end up killed because they were being abused. The issue in this is that people aren’t really doing anything to try and prevent child abuse. Many kids are affected by this because some kids end up dead or others grow up being the exact same way as he people who abused him as a child. Many children are being abused on a daily basis, they’re either beaten or treated badly or most of the time they’re not being fed on a daily basis.
Child abuse is a very serious problem that continues to happen all over the world. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, defines child abuse as a failure to act as a parent or caregiver which results in physical/emotional harm, sexual abuse, and in some cases death. There are many different types of child abuse such as emotional, physical, neglect, and sexual. With each type of abuse there are warning signs you can spot before it is too late. When a child is abused there is a huge possibility that it can cause them to have many long term effects.
