To be a leader there are many ways to be go about it, and depending on the situation and circumstance the type of leadership style can vary. When you think of servant leadership you may think of a typical hierarchy where employees serve and cater to the bosses. In this situation servant leadership is the opposite it is where the leader serves the people. According to an article I found it defines servant leadership as the foundation for leaders other effectively. It goes on to define servant leadership as a person’s dedication to helping others be their best selves at home, work, and in the community (Economy, 2015). Servant leaders can be described as leaders who believes every person has value, deserves civility, trust, and respect. Examples of what a transformational leaders is someone who is a model of integrity and fairness, they set clear goals, has high expectations, encourages others, provides support and recognition, gets people to look beyond their self-interest, and inspires people to reach for their highest potential. Transformational leaders are the ones to lead by example and have the mind set to change things that no longer work. There is a difference in this leadership style that sets it from the rest, they are usually working to change the system, they start by solving challenges, and they minimize variation of the organization (Ertel, 2016). Transformational leadership can be applied in non-profit agencies because they have the characteristic to make a change for a purpose which is the purpose of a non-profit agency.
