Seeking professional assistance for counselling is important because an individual has to inquire about the therapist qualifications that may sometimes allow specific services offered. This qualified individual has to decide a therapeutic plan of action to address my distress as a patient. As a client, seeking professional assistance from a psychologist there are certain creditals and professional development will have to be reviewed before requesting services from a clinician. Perhaps, if the psychologist received a Masters or Doctoral degree from an accredited institution, with an extensive background of experience in a specialized area for at least a few years. Indeed, having in a particular area of expertise aids in comfortability, because it adds a sense of security of knowing that a psychologist is diverse in their field. As a patient I want a will therapist who is competent in this discipline. Hence, why the therapist need to be knowledgeable and an expertise in their field and qualified to precisely assist a client in distress. Having a therapist who is aware of your diagnosis and particular area of need will aid in the client disclosure of information which will add an emotional comfortability. This emotion of comfortability will build a rapport between my clincian an d therapist which allows my clinician to evoke empathy in our sessions. Furthermore, I need a therapist who will offer other services like educational classes or training if a problem occur in a difficult situation, this is why a psychologist or social worker is needed so they can assist.
