When it comes up to mobile advertising, this hasn 't been a major concern as, according to Lara O 'Heilly on a Business Insider`s article, mobile ad blocking applications could only block ads on mobile browsers and not in apps. Still according to the article, dated back to 15th October, new application- Been Choice- claims it can block in-apps ads too. Using a different technique, through VPN(Virtual Private Network), it can filter out ad traffic. The app was approved by apple to be displayed on App Store, although it’s still not clear the Apple’s interest on the approval. Cell phones have evolved so much over the past 10 years. People are now able to watch movies or television shows right from their phone. I am away from home a lot dealing with my children and their extra-curricular activities. The rate at which technology advances, even by today’s standards, continues to amaze and astonish people. Even the simplest of daily tasks are influenced and molded by the increasingly original inventions that continue to explode into the public’s eye. One’s everyday life is constantly updated, reinvented, and (if you will) reprogrammed in order to adapt to the new ways of technology. Yet this phenomenon is not unique to this decade alone. As modern and as fast-paced as things may seem now, people in 1984 were going through very similar circumstances. The invention of the VCR was quickly becoming an obviously important product, while advertisers, media executives, and the average consumer were all trying to determine how to interpret this invention.
The many evils that exist within television’s culture were not foreseen back when televisions were first put onto the market. The ‘Golden Age of Television’ is what many refer to as the period between the 1950s and 60s when the television began to establish itself as a prevalent medium in the United States. In 1947, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and the Du Mont Network were the four main television networks that ran stations with regular programming taking place. (Television, 2003) While regular television programming was a new innovation, the television itself had been commercially available for over twenty years prior to the 50s. It was conceived by many worldly innovators and went through several testing stages before it was finally completed in the late twenties. The three main innovators were Niplow - who first developed a rotating disk with small holes arranged in a spiral pattern in 1884, Zworykin - who developed the Iconoscope which could scan pictures and break them into electronic signals (a primitive form of the Cathode Ray Tube) in 1923, and lastly Fansworth - who demonstrated for the first time that it was possible to transmit an electrical image in 1927. (Rollo, 2011) However, one of the many reasons why this medium was successful in the 50s was due to the fact that it became more accessible to the public. Television sets were more affordable to middle class citizens which created further interest in the new technology. Through an historical account of the medium, the spread of television across America throughout this particular decade will be examined.

As the world revolves, there are a lot of changes that happens in the world. For example, in terms of technology, there are a lot of improvements already. Back then, for example, features of mobile phones were only call and text. But more ideas have been developed and people have started to think about how to improve some things so that they can attract more consumers. The result is there are now more, in this case, high-tech phones with carious incredible features such as access to social media, hi-quality camera’s ability to upload to and download from the Internet, e-readers, and video calls for quicker and easier communication.

Ads are very diverse and often consist of an array of fields in which consumers are targeted. Ranging from food, health, clothing, sports, image, lifestyle, etc. Ads provide important means of influence on our society. Ads often play the role of persuade people to come buy products from a specific distributor. On average an individual is exposed to 3000 plus more ads daily, via TV, Internet, print, billboards, etc. In the past decade though ads have drastically changed due to the ever-growing digital era we are living in. Digital technology has assisted in the industry making changes to accommodate our tech-savvy society. Changes in the advertising industry have occurred due to the adoption of the Internet, social media, television, and mobile technology.
I had a few specific goals when creating my Screen Self-Portrait--I wanted to integrate different aspects of my digital identity and identity experience, provide unspoken insight about my activity in different networks, and make a colorful, aesthetically pleasing (at least by my standards) account of my identity experience. I successfully reached all of my goals in 4 steps: Reflecting on my digital identity and identity experience, thinking about and purposely choosing the minuscule pieces of my self to display, arranging said pieces in a thoughtful manner, and editing/reviewing my work to accurately create my Screen Self-Portrait.
