I think school officials should be able to search students’ lockers if they suspect anyone has drugs/weapons. If a student has drugs or weapons in their locker, it needs to be addressed, so no one gets hurt. If schools didn’t search lockers randomly, students would be bringing drugs/weapons on a regular basis. Schools are a place for students to learn, not a place for students to hang out and get wasted. Drugs/weapons are a bad combination and lead to bad things like mass shootings. Take airport security for example, if they didn’t search through every single bag, people would be bringing hazardous materials that would hurt a lot of people, they would bring bombs that would destroy planes, and special devices to steal people’s information.
The background check system can help to reduce crime and violence with the help of the NICS. This system is in charge or having criminal, mentally ill, or drug abusers names. Their names should appear on the database when they want to purchase a gun, and it has to be shared with the FBI. However since the Virginia Tech massacre they realized that the background check system is missing a lot of records and was not succeeding. Because of this congress passed the NICS Improvement Amendments Act to help with the cost of gathering and submitting information from agencies and states to the FBI, to create a more accurate database and make it faster for new information to be loaded in the NICS. According to Christine Watkins, “Every day 34 Americans are murdered with guns, and most of them are possessed illegally” (Watkins 1).
It is easy and very cost effective for custodians to hang thirty hooks along a wall in every classroom over the summer, or even just have students lie their backpacks along an internal wall in the classroom. this will prevent tripping and will keep the classroom clean and organized. Manny belive that have backpacks will promote the use of contraband of weapons and/or drugs however this is simply not true most of the time when this happens backpacks play little to no role. students that bring weapons or drugs carry them in sweatshirts or jackets. backpacks are just used to get them to and from school which students have the ability to do now. In order to carry a backpack around all day every student will sign a contract giving administration full power over student backpack usage. in the contract students will agree to not bring any
Having armed officers in schools can help the safety of the students and faculty. It could possibly help stop mass shootings or lower the casualties of shootings that occur. Making schools safer should be an important topic to talk about because we want students to feel safe while learning. Schools should make sure the students feel safe going to school. Schools should study past shooting and shooting that were avoided. To further make schools safe and almost worry free. Having no officers in schools has only cause more harm and leaves schools in a vulnerable state for any kind of safety risk. Having some protect of our youth is better then having no protection.
There are plenty of ways we can prevent school shootings and one of them is by adding more school security officers. If there is more security, then it would be easier for them to give a warning when there could be a pote...
There's a problem in America. Children, defenseless are being shot one by one. They go to their school and the schools are a gun free zone. The shooters take advantage of it and take the children's lives. Teachers should be able to carry a handgun to protect their children. This is very important, to all teachers and students for their safety. Shooters wouldn't come in the school knowing that the teacher had a gun. Students would feel way safer. There would be a lot of safety that would go into this.there are a lot of facts that can help us make the decision.
Guns should be banned from all college campuses nationwide. Many students, teachers, and college presidents strongly oppose hidden, loaded guns on campuses because it will lead to increased violence, accidental shootings, and the non-carrying public would feel unsafe around the carrying public. If all elementary to high schools have a strict ban on guns for their campuses, it seems logical to extend the ban up to higher education. Now that it is more common for students in high school to take dual classes on a college campus, extending would ensure safety of the minors. Guns have a purpose at other arenas, but on a campus that is intended for learning and education it would be best to keep
... result in allowing it. Students could very fall into the wrong hands, teachers could snap and put others in harm, it could ruin the kid by making them feel nervous about it just being there, so on and so forth. There are numerous adversities that the population would have to face just to prevent something that might never happen. Does it seem worth all the heartaches one could experience? Ask yourselves, Is allowing teachers guns in the school the best option for the better of everyone? Maybe there are other safer and easier solutions to the problem. This world is chaotic and needs to have more security in schools. That is true, but the mindset of allowing teachers the ones to carrgo about things. Think about all the situations that could happen in the future or at anytime if we did allow it, and not just about the minor point that schools need to be more safe.
... the school system is working with the community to create a safety plan where each of their faculty and staff and students can feel and be in a safer environment, and also, with student’s privacy they will keep the usage of lockers to a minimum as well as a search of the lockers.
The schools had also brought in school officers to have on school grounding during school hours. They feel that they need these type of secured to have their children protected. Parents feel a little say knowing that there is a police in school patrolling. In several school they have started to do searches to make sure no one is bring anything dangerous that could harm a person. This is super important to makes sure no weapons are on school grounds. Schools have also put on their policy that if any weapon is found on the person’s possession there could be serious
School searchers have been going on for many years now, and as the years keep passing the searches happen more and more. Schools didn't have many back in the day due to trust in the schools also they didn't have as many drugs around as now a days. I feel that school searches are a good thing to have through out the year and also have them if they have probable cause to search sgtudents lockers.
In today’s world most schools do not have any form of security other than leaving the doors locked during the school day. Locking the doors can keep non students out of the building but it can’t stop students on the inside from taking out guns and shooting others. On the day of the Columbine High School shooting the two students were able to just walk right into their school and that’s when they began killing. If schools had every single student and staff member walk through a metal detector, everyone would feel a lot safer going to school. The federal government should ensure the safety of students and teachers by providing schools with this equipment to end any possible chance of another school shooting. School safety is important and that’s why schools require you to do fire drills and evacuation drills, but to really be sure the students and staff are safe, metal detectors at the entrance doorways of schools should be required to detect guns, knives and other weapons that could potentially harm
Should be ban them? Yes, because they are terrible and they hurt people and No, because if you don’t have a way to protect yourself what is going to happen to you? Should we allow only certain people to have them? Yes, the law enforcement on your campus is there for a reason but there is a question that arises with that too. What if they get there too late? These are not as simple as people like to assume they are, there are many sides to this. Too many if you ask any regular person, but these are what the law makers have to go through. Did they take the school shooting too lightly when deciding this or did they just use enough to help elevate
I feel teachers should be able to carry guns, the main reason for this, is in some schools the closest law enforcement is 20-50 miles. For example “some teachers and staff in the Harrold, Texas, school district where Thweatt is superintendent carry concealed guns in the school as the last line of defense in the event of a shooting on campus.
The increasing amount of public school students selling, using, or being offered illegal drugs on school property has not only parents greatly concerned but school administrators and educators as well. This matter has caught the attention of the United State Supreme Court, which held “deterring drug use by school children is an important-indeed, perhaps compelling interest of the government.” Although there is a common agreement for the need to provide a drug free learning environments for our students, there is much debate with regard to the procedures and measures to be taken before infringing on the students’ Fourth Amendment right. In efforts to safeguard our students, many states have implemented the use of strip searches. The idea of having young adolescents disrobing on school grounds shocks the conscience of many and acts as a red flag for the intrusion on students’ constitutional rights. In fact, a Federal District Court has characterized a strip search as “visual rape.” So, where do we draw the line between insuring the safety of our students and in the same turn not going as far as stripping them of their Fourth Amendment right?
...ey to getting a good job, but high school students can’t get their education if they are caught up in doing drugs. Over thirty percent of dropouts in the United States are because of drugs. The thirty percent of drug addict dropouts may never find a job. Thats why it is important for high school drug testing to be enforced among all students. High school drug testing would allow early notice of drug use and allow the school to steer the student into the right path towards success. The drug tests will give students confidence and another reason to say “No” when being peer pressured into trying drugs. Many would argue that drug testings invade their privacy, but with drug usage being at an all time high who can we count on? High schools are made to prepare students for their future, and in order to make the students successful we must allow high school drug testings.
