In my opinion obtaining power and money are not the defining characteristics of what makes a leader; although both money and power can come as the result of being a leader they are not the motivation behind a brilliant, individual exuding leadership potential. Leaders are those who inspire us by their story and message of perseverance not by their greed, they make us re-evaluate our own goals and give us hope for our future. Being a senior at DePaul, I have had the opportunity to meet many powerful and successful executives in the business world, and although these men and women may have been successful, their enlarged ego has left behind an unpleasant image in my mind. Growing up Sam Goodman and I were always close and our group of friends spent a lot of time at his house, his father was always nice and welcoming and made sure to make us all feel at home. As I grew older I became more curious as to what his occupation was so I started to pay more attention to what he had to say. Today, Scott Goodman is not only someone I know on a personal level, but also someone that I admire, being a business major. In interviewing Scott Goodman I had the chance to pick his brain about his transformation from an average mid-western teenager to one of the biggest real estate tycoons in the country. Growing up in Evanston Scott was an average teenager; he played sports, had a lot of friends, and came from a middle class family. His father owned a local plumbing business, which Scott worked for while when he was in high school, and Scott was destined to carry on the family tradition. However, after graduating from the University of Michigan, Scott decided he had other plans, bigger plans for himself. He then went to Kellogg school of Management and received his graduate’s degree. After that he started Sterling Bay Companies which was started with the first purchase of a small five flat building, the rest is history now that his real-estate empire has taken over

There are a variety of leaders in the world, some can be positive influence, and some can be negative influence, while others can be both. The thing that defines whether a leader is a positive influence, negative influence, or both is the traits and characteristics that each possess. Either way a leader acquires the respect of their followers in their own unique way. Oprah Winfrey is an example of a positive leader who acquired her audience through her talk show. Oprah Winfrey is considered a leader because of her credibility acquired, influence on people, and for being a philanthropist and humanitarian.
Brian purchased the finest penthouse that his money could buy. After all, “I deserve it”, he would boast to friends. Expensive white Italian silk suits, alligator shoes, and a red Lamborghini sports car with license plates that read “MONEY” were his trademark. This paper will address a review of best practice regarding leadership in correctional facilities as well as an analysis of Corrections Corporation of America’s (CCA) Samberg Program. Son of a cigar shop owner, Martin learned everything about cigars from his father, helping improve business any way he could. Martin Dressler explores the American Dream in all its manifestations: as aim, vision, intention, nightmare, and hallucination. The achievement of the American dream almost always comes down to your determination and willingness to work as hard as you can towards your goals. However, the key to success in the American system is not simply available by going through the motions of life, but rather requires determination, will, and an urge to succeed and capitalize on every opportunity provided to us. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Gatsby, the poverty-stricken army officer turned eccentric millionaire, proves that the American system is one that does not discriminate between the rich and the poor, or by creed, or even by race, but allows for equal opportunity for all, supporting those with ambition and drive, while punishing those who lack purpose and initiative, one where everyone has a chance for greatness if they have the drive and initiative to seize that opportunity and “make the most of it” and that the resulting success derived from that motivation erases the significance of one’s background.
Donald’s early life consisted of his attendance at New York Military Academy and Fordham University. Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
I think most people think of great leaders as very famous, wealthy, charismatic, and powerful. This is probably why many level 5 leaders aren't chosen for top spots in organizations. In my view most important character of a good leader is that they must be compassionate. Having a personality of caring about people is important. You can?t be a good leader unless you generally like people. That is how you bring out the best in them. No matter what credential they have and how much experience they have in administration but without being compassionate they can't ever become a responsible and successful leader. For example Hitler is known for his cruelty and he had no feelings for his own race. He failed to understand the feelings of Jews and thus persecuted them. He also failed to know the fact that the strength of his country lies in them, while opposite is Mahatma Gandhi, a major political and spiritual leader of India, followed nonviolent actions, avoiding any bloodshed in the country during their struggle for Independence. Because of his compassionate nature many leaders in today's world has looked him upon. So leader must be compassionate first without being influence by any ulterior motive.
