I am seeking admission to University of Tennessee’s Doctor of Philosophy in School Psychology program for fall 2017 admission. In addition to my academic work in behavioral psychology and applied behavior analysis, I also have a robust background in pre-k and elementary education. I intend to use my current knowledge to build and develop my repertoire in education and psychological principles, while making substantial contributions to educational research and teaching in a university setting.
From a very young age I have taken a particular interest in education, learning processes, and the principles of human behavior. It is this interest that initially drove me to pursue a career in elementary education, and complete my bachelor’s degree in behavioral science. My passion for helping all children maximize skill development and boost learning efficiency has driven me to pursue a doctoral degree in the field of school psychology. The large special education student population combined with the administrative and staff turnover has posed a challenge. Ensuring all teachers and staff have the essential knowledgebase is vital, however my current role generates time restraints. EXTERNAL CONTEXT AND POLICY Education leaders influence political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts affecting education to improve education policies and practices (6A) Understanding and Communicating Policy correlates with action plan. I will inform all members of the current legal mandates established by federal law, as safeguarding student rights is imperative. I will attend IEP and MD meetings to ensure federal mandates are applied to each child’s education pathway.
William W. Wattenberg, a highly respected educational psychologist, was born in 1911. In 1936, he received his PhD degree from Columbia University. He taught educational psychology at Northwestern University and Chicago Teacher’s College. He later became professor of Education and Clinical Psychology and director of the Delinquency Control Training Center at Wayne State University. He, like Redl, wrote many books contributing to the field of education, including The Adolescent Years (1955), and All Men are Created Equal (1967).

Training should be implemented on IEP’s and modifications and accommodations for general education teachers. General education teachers should also be trained on utilizing the special education teachers experience in modifying, accommodating, and differentiated instruction. We are a team and the goal we are working for is for all of our students on our campus to be successful, general education and special education students.
Edward Lee Thorndike was born in Massachusetts on August 31, 1874. He earned his education and degrees at Wesleyan University, Harvard, and Columbia University. In his lifetime, Thorndike had multiple honors and awards bestowed upon him for his contributions to science. Remarkably, while he has majorly influenced educational methods in the United States, Thorndike’s choice to follow a career in psychology drove from the opportunities presented more than his desires.

In education 2130, we are ask to volunteer our time and do field experience that in return would give back to the community. I choose to do my field experience at Lula Elementary School in Hall County. During my time there I got to observe and watch teachers teach, how they handle children’s behavior and also their classroom management. In the paper I am going to discuss my field experience and what I learned in my time spent in a classroom. I am also going to try and make connections to educational psychology and what I learned in my education class. Also I am going to reflect on my emotional and professional reactions.
Education is a vital part of growing up. Everyone goes through the education system to help carve a path towards their future self and what career they want to focus on as they get older. However, what most people become confused on is the difference between “general education” and “special education.” General education is the education provided to students who physically attend school. Now, special education is the education provided by the school plus extra programs and services to help aid and guide the students through the general education. One of the more popular areas of psychology is Educational Psychology. Educational Psychology can be explained several ways. The idea is to study theories and concepts from different parts of psychology and apply them in educational settings. These educational settings may occur in different school settings such as preschool. The goal of educational psychology is to create a positive student-teacher relationship. Educational psychology uses five different types of psychology, behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and social cognitive, and constructivist in this research paper I will be briefly discussing each type of psychology listed above.
