The design of a building is often reflective of its function. Without certain accommodations and details, a building will be visually appealing, but mostly useless to its inhabitants. The function of a school is particularly dependent upon its design. The design of New Spring Middle School will reflect the holistic middle school concept.
The overall design of campus will advocate the holistic focus of New Spring Middle School. Learning Gardens and a wetland area will exist as additional academic resources for students. In addition, these areas will be a source of creativity. An example of these resources would entail the use of the gardens by science and industrial classes to grow vegetables. Once these plants mature, Family and Consumer Science course would use the vegetables for creating food dishes. In this way, the campus design advocates interclass communication and an integrated curriculum. Besides garden areas, the campus of New Spring Middle School will include athletic areas to promote physical health. These areas will serve both competitive and intramural sports in order to support the physical wellness of all students. Finally, the Great Lawn on campus is designed specifically to promote the middle school concept. The lawn will serve as a resource for athletic activities and for communal events such as team activities. Having a large meeting place like the Great Lawn will encourage teachers to develop holistic activities for their entire team. Assembling students as one team will support intellectual and social development, while highlighting the communal nature of the middle school concept. In conclusion, the overall design of New Spring Middle School promotes the holistic middle school concept. From the entire campus to the individual classroom, holistic development is supported and an emphasis on teaming is stressed. By designing a facility that reflects the philosophy of the school, students will have maximum potential to develop into healthy adolescents.
Over the past few years, Crescent School has made several changes due to stakeholder dissatisfaction. Some of these changes include high school advisory, activities/sports offered, and the graduation ceremony length. The administrative team heard from student and other stakeholders about concerns of the number of activities and sports offered. The team worked together to develop new clubs that students have requested. The time of day the club met was also altered to accommodate additional students participating in the club. Dr. Mork and the administrative team listen to suggestions as they come from stakeholders and do all that is available to implement the change, if deemed possible.
Centers throughout the classroom will be set up to promote further understanding and creativity of their own communities and the communities of others. The centers will also be organized so that the students will be able recognizing the differences of people and be able to show respect towards all people. To start off the unit, the students will bring in a picture of their families and there will be a map of the city which shows the different neighborhoods and the students will place their family picture in their neighborhood. The map will be hung in the classroom so the students can see the different neighborhoods their classmates come

Consequently, the conceptual aspect of the building came as a secondary element in the design of the building. “Form follows function.” Every great Modern architect thought, designed by and breathed these very words. Or at least, their design principles evolved from them. Modern architects Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Pierre Chareau, and Rudolf Schindler to name a few believed that the function determined the space whether the space was solely for a particular purpose or they overlapped to allow for multiple uses. Form didn’t just follow function, function defined the space. By focusing on the relationship between the architecture and the interior elements, Chareau’s Maison de Verre expanded the idea of functionalism to include not only the architecture but also the space it creates and how people function within that space.
Young students today that are going through the middle school system are between the ages of 10 to 15 years old. They are going through a crucial stage of life in which many alterations occur such as emotional, physical, and mental changes. All of these changes that they must go through are essential to develop into healthy, fully functional, and self-actualized people. As a future educator, I need to see that middle school students are unique; they are too old to be considered children and too young to be considered adolescents. Middle level professionals have certain roles and responsibilities as it relates to the development of young adolescents. We must present ourselves as role models for the students and have the responsibility to make sure that as they progress through middle school they have enriched, meaningful learning experiences through challenging, exploratory, integrative, and relevant curriculum. As a future educator, I need to understand and recognize these changes, strengths, weaknesses, and diversities and be able to plan accordingly and appropriately for them in the classroom. I have developed my own philosophy for teaching at the middle level, based on this evidence and my understanding about the unique characteristics of middle level adolescents that will help mold me into a great middle school educator!
So as to improve the K-12 education, the United States needs to redesign the high schools. The initiative by the president to redesign the high schools is significant in encouraging the schools to use the available resources. Schools together with their partners should take into using the resources that exist effectively. These resources are in the local, state and the federal so as to transform the experience in the high schools for the youth through energy of the whole school redesign. This effort of redesigning the high schools will help challenge them and their partners in rethinking learning and teaching. In order to create innovative public architecture, considered to be the most civic, costly, time intensive and physical of the arts, the project holds a degree of risk, strife, and negotiation . Overcoming these tasks and creating worthy public architecture is a challenge designers try to accomplish, but are rarely successful. The people involved in a potential public building, can be larger than the building itself. Public architecture tries to please all, even the doubters and critics, but because of the all these factors, a building is closer to failing than succeeding.

During the first day of school, a variety of different students enter the classroom.
