A similar case of happened in Ireland, where a 31 year old woman was denied and abortion after the hospital told her that she would miscarry. After five months of waiting to become a mother Savita Halappanavar, finally had her chance until she started experiencing severe back pain which caused her to seek medical assistance. After the checkup the doctor announced to Savita that she will experience a miscarriage. Once the pain was too much for her to bear she asked for an abortion and was denied because of strict abortion laws stating that after the first trimester they cannot terminate it. So Savita had to go through with her miscarriage. After experiencing her miscarriage Savita was in a lot of pain and the fetus slowly died after birth. …show more content…
(Pollack, 2012) Her emotional health is being diminished as she is forced to give birth to her deformed dead baby. This is why these strict anti-abortion laws need to be regulated throughout, not just the United States, but also the world, for cases such as these. I agree both, pro-choice and pro-life supporters, have excellent points to argue. Pro-life may argue some women take advantage of abortion, but instead of totally abolishing abortion it should be regulated. Women should not be allowed to have an abortion in the second half of their pregnancy unless it is detrimental to their life or the child’s. I think that this is the best and effective way to deal with the …show more content…
Nearly one million teenage girls become pregnant each year each year. (About Teen Pregnancy, 2014). Imagine your own daughter or someone else’s daughter who is very close to you is experience this. Should these teenage girls suffer for their in experience and lack of knowledge or even a moment of carelessness? Teenage girls are just exploring puberty and experience new things and even though sex is not encourage in many households many teenagers still go out and proceed with these activities. However, can they really be blamed for wanting to explore their own bodies? That is why strict anti-abortion laws should be lifted because even though precautions are taken accidents can still happen and there is no reason that to make young teenagers suffer by carrying a child they are not obviously ready for. When many teenage girls gets pregnant the often have to deal with the pregnancy by getting unsafe abortions. This could lead to many medical complications in the future and cause major harm to the body of the

An issue that has flared up in today’s society, abortion is a highly debated topic that has sparked some of the most violent discussions. The rapid growth in teenage pregnancy has only increased the amount of attention that has been drawn to abortion and whether it is ethical or not. While some say that a woman is in power of her own body and can make choices based on her best interest, some take much offense to that and demand that a baby is a baby no matter how small it is and that abortion is never okay. It is important to know going into this debate that to argue one side, one would have to be 100% consistent with that decision because of all of the grey areas that come up regarding abortion. With that being said, I still believe that a mother should take responsibility of the situation and recognize that, even though it is minuscule, a baby is a person the moment it begins to develop inside of her.
Judith Jarvis Thomson successfully discusses and outlines in many cases that an abortion performed when the mother’s life is not threatened by the pregnancy would be not unjust. As some believe that the foetus is not an independent creature as it is inseparable from the mother’s body and the morality of abortion until the mother is part of the situation and being properly recognised. Thomas does recognise this as she believes that the mother’s rights over her body are key considerations. Thomson does not accept the conservative view as to the moral status of the foetus. But she additionally argues that abortion would be morally permissible even if the foetus were a person. In her article “A Defence against Abortion” she accepts the conservative view for the purpose of the discussion, and from there proceeds to argue in defence against abortion. Thomson successfully discusses and critiques the conservative position on the moral status of the foetus in relation to defence against abortion and continues to make frequent references to science.
... girl gets drunk at a party and sleeps with someone from school without a condom, she knows in the back of her head that if the worst ever happened that there would be an option to fix it…abortion. A women is torn between two love interests and doesn’t think to go on birth control but continues to sleep with both men, in the back of her head she knows if she were to get pregnant it wouldn’t matter who the father was because neither would have to know…abortion. The situations are limitless. But what happens if you take that option away? That teenager and that confused women are forced into being responsible. There no longer is an easy way out, because now if a pregnancy occurs it results in a baby… no more abortion. No more babies dying due to a lack of good judgment, no more girls lying with their legs spread waiting for a doctor to fix their mistake, no more excuses.
Many people who don’t know much about abortion don’t know how truly horrifying and serious it is. There are many small details about the baby that could change a woman’s mind in an instant on whether or not they think abortion is the way to go. Women usually don’t realize how it works or what exactly is happening to the baby. They usually think to themselves that it isn’t really a baby or a human form yet, but they are wrong. The baby has already developed fingers, eyelids, a brain, knees, and many other human features by just only seven weeks into the pregnancy (What your baby). Unborn developing babies are much more “human” tha...
It is saddening to see humans of the female gender, who find themselves in a situation that requires introducing a new life into the world; to abort such a precious gift. Many may wonder how these poor, innocent, unborn children are then discarded after the abortion procedure. One cannot fathom the reason of these gruesome murders that happens within these medical facilities. Babies are disposed in the red waste bins of these facilities, and later incinerated. Some may either be flushed down garbage disposals or even be sold off for research purposes. The issue of abortion is not just a social one, but also a human rights issue among the unborn children. I believe if the human rights of these children has been violated, then all other rights of humans are certainly meaningless.
Approximately 1.6 million murders are committed legally each year. While the mutilated bodies of the victims lay waiting in infested dumpsters to be hauled off to a landfill, the murderers are in their offices waiting for their next patient. This is the murder of an innocent child by a procedure known as abortion. Abortion stops the beating of an innocent child’s heart. People must no longer ignore the scientific evidence that life begins at the moment of conception. People can no longer ignore the medical and emotional problems an abortion causes women. People must stop denying the facts about the procedure, and start hearing the silent screams of unborn children. The argument by the pro-abortion side is that the unborn child is not truly a child. Pro-abortionists believe that life begins at birth and that a fetus is only a blob of tissue until it is born. Abortion is the dismembering and killing of a human life-an unborn baby- not just a “blob of tissue”. “ But it is scientific and medical fact based on experimental evidence, that a fetus is a living, growing, thriving human being, directing his or her own development” (Fetal Development). A fetus is not just a blob of tissue; rather a fetus is Latin for “offspring or young one.” At a US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee meeting, most scientists said that life begins at conception or implantation of the embryo. No scientist at the meeting claimed that life begins at birth (Factbot). Professor Hymie Gordon of the Mayo clinic stated “…by all criteria of modern biology, life is present from the moment of conception” (fetal development). Not only has science proven that a fetus is truly a human, the simple facts also confer abortion kills t...
Abortion can be said to be an induced process or expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus, result in, or caused by, its death. Sometimes this can occur spontaneously as a miscarriage. It can also be artificially induced through chemical, surgical or other means. This is induced termination or miscarriage occurs before the twenty weeks of gestation. The induced termination has been a source of debate as well as controversy throughout the history of mankind. This means the position on abortion depends on two factors which include ones personal belief on the morality of induced abortion. The other factor is the government’s limit of authority.
I do see where you are all coming from that killing a baby that is breathing and alive inside of you is wrong when you are 20 or more weeks pregnant, but it should not be anyone else’s business nor concern what the mother of the child is doing. If she wants to terminate her baby then let her terminate her baby you have no say on the issue. She should not have to go to a panel of doctors to get the all clear to go ahead with the procedure.
A news intern, Orko Manna, wrote, “Our state money will not go to any organization – Planned Parenthood or otherwise – that destroys children” (qtd. in Ed Rivet). As much as I understand why people might feel that abortion is taking a life away, however, it’s not. LeVay and Baldwin specifically explained that, “The fetus is not yet a human being because it cannot survive outside the uterus on its own. Abortion should not be considered murder if the fetus is not self-sustaining and requires the mother’s body and physical resources to survive. The body of first priority is therefore the mother’s, and it should be her choice as to what she endures both mentally and physically”. This shows that abortion is nothing but a way to end pregnancy before a human life develops. On that note, isn’t it worse to have a female be forced to have a baby that she isn’t ready for and cause neglect/abuse to the baby? If not that, the baby won’t be growing up in a healthy environment. Children should be able to come into this world loved and wanted, not by force from the law. Anything by force rarely ends well. It all comes down to what the mother decides to do with her body because “she should be free to do what she deems necessary for her body and overall health in any situation” (LeVay and
In America, one million teenagers get pregnant every year (National Abortion Federation, 2003). Of these pregnancies, 78% are unplanned because these teenagers start having sex at a very young age and are unaware of ways to prevent pregnancies. Thirty five percent of the pregnant teenagers chose to abort, as they fear that the consequences of the pregnancy might cause significant effects to their lives. The problems that come with teenage pregnancies include dropping out of school, receiving inadequate prenatal care, developing health problems, relying on public assistance to raise a child, and probably divorcing their partners. In most states, the law allows pregnant teenagers to take their babies for adoption without consulting their parents. The same laws allow the teenagers to have an abortion but require parental notification or consent before carrying out the procedure. These laws prove biased as they favor one resolution over the other, as they force some to bear babies they do not want by restricting their options.
There are thousands of women in the world make the mistake of getting pregnant. Yes, there are forms of contraception but they are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. Approximately 1.4 million abortion procedures are done each year in the United States, with 30% of those women being younger than forty-five years old (ProCon). Without abortion, there would be an abundance of children who are brought into the world unwanted and not being able to have the essentials they need to go through life successfully. The most difficult responsibility a woman would have to go through is finances. 85% of women who wish to have an abortion are unmarried and have to support the child alone (“Abortion Procedures”). Abortion can save a woman from going through financial distress when she is aware that she is not financially stable. Teen pregnancy is common in the world and they are not at a point in life where taking care of someone else, other than themselves, is possible to do alone. Thirty-nine states allow minors to go through the abortion procedure with parent consent (“Abortion Procedures”). All fifty states should allow this because if teens could not receive that choice, then they would have to carry an unwanted baby that they could not take care of after giving birth. Most abortion procedures are during the first trimester (Lowen). During the first weeks of pregnancy the development of the fetus is a gather of cells, therefore killing cells is not killing an actual person so abortion should not be considered murder.
...ociety, but people should not make decisions that can drastically and unjustly infringe on others human beings. A fetus is in fact a human being and its rights should be respected. It maybe the mother’s body, but as soon as she conceives it’s just not her body anymore. Although others believe a woman has the right to choose what she does with her body, the infant the woman carries is still human and has rights to be protected.
The first cry, the first touch, seeing it’s little fingers reach out and hold on to a mother’s hand; this baby will become the person who cured cancer. But wait. It never even had a chance to breathe. Mothers say that they were not ready to bring a beautiful life into the world but the baby never had a say in the mother’s decision to takes it life. Abortion affects not only the baby, but the mom, the father, and everyone that knows about the wonderful miracle of life. Abortion, though legal in the United States, should be made illegal because it is morally wrong and murder.
What would be your reaction if you had a teenager come home pregnant? Many teenagers fear their parents if they have to bring home a bad report card. Others may have a fear if they get into trouble at school. Although these fears are substantial, young women experience a fear that young men do not. Becoming pregnant is a serious fear for young women that engage in sexual intercourse. Often times a teen mother’s answer to this situation is abortion or an illegal abortion. Teen abortion can be somewhat difficult to get in many states without having parental consent or notification. These laws make it unsafe for the teen mother and unborn child. Teen abortion should be allowed without having to have parental consent. The mortality rate of teen mothers and babies would decrease significantly if this were the case. Sadly, each year in the United States the age of young girls who are sexually active decreases. At this rate there are many unwanted and unplanned pregnancies. “One in three abortions in the U.S. are performed on teens” (Torr 91). That is a very high statistic that young women have created due to their adult decisions.” Teens are sometimes reluctant to practice birth control because it is not romantic” (Emmens 13). Teens tend to believe that they should not use birth control, because they do not think that they will get pregnant. The lack of birth control may result in pregnancy. Once a teenager gets pregnant she may not know what to do next. Teenagers usually become nervous and unsure of whether to tell someone or just keep the pregnancy a secret. When they keep the pregnancy a secret it puts them in danger as well as the unborn child. Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider. “We believe that everyone has the right to choose when or whether to have a child, and that every child should be wanted and loved” (Suarez 2). Planned Parenthood allows a teenager to make safe decisions without including the teen’s parents. In many states where they have Planned Parenthood facilities the teenagers have more options. Teenagers that want birth control and/or an abortion can receive services, as well as information from a doctor. The doctors at this clinic encourage young women to tell their parents of their choice of abortion.
