I recently attended the St. Marys Area School District All District Concert held in the high school’s Carpin Auditorium on May 18, 2017. The concert featured over 200 musicians in grades four through twelve, all coming from the various schools in the district (St. Marys Area School District). Parents, relatives, and fellow students made up the audience of passionate supporters. Therefore, the audience was enthusiastic and quick to applaud every performance. The instruments included typical instruments such as flutes, trumpets, drums, the piano, and violins, plus many more. For instance, there were jazz pieces such as Russ Robinson’s “Mack the Knife” and fun children’s songs such as “Animal Imagination” (St. Marys Area School District). Select pieces were even performed in different languages. Such pieces included the Japanese Shojojee and the Spanish Tres canciones de los elementos (St. Marys Area School District). I enjoyed these selections even though I didn’t understand all of them; I appreciated the diversity. I was also fond of the High School “Pop” Choir. They sang acapella pop hits such as “Some Nights” and “Carry on My Wayward Son” (St. Marys Area School District). I thought it was really touching that during their performance Mr. Brooks recognized Jessica Flacinski - a dedicated member of the choir who was performing in one of her final concerts for the school.
