We were all taught that our Earth is covered by seventy-percent of water. But did you know that there’s only two percent of our food sources come from the ocean? Today, I am standing here to propose the importance of opening up 2 new open-net salmon farms in British Columbia. I am a managing director from an international salmon producing company Marine Harvest. I am going to present you the economic, environmental, and social benefits of new salmon farms. Above all, I am for setting up two new salmon farms in British Columbia because salmon farming is an important economic sector for BC as well as Canada. Firstly, Marine Harvest Canada produces one-fifth of the world farmed salmon in six different countries including Canada (“Welcome to Marine Harvest Canada”). Secondly, Marine Harvest’s salmon exports around the globe is increasing over years (“Integrated Annual Report 2016”). As people are purchasing more fish, the fish industries become vital to a province as well as a country’s economy. Thirdly, Marine Harvest Canada provides jobs for about 200 people in Port Hardy and Port McNeill in BC (“Part of the Community”).
