As the United States population has increased 75 million to 317.9 million humans in hundred years. So has the demands from seafood increasing as well. Americans consumed 4.5 billion pounds of seafood a year. The company of AquaBounty Technologies has been trying to create a product to combat the grow demand to produce enough seafood with crippling the wild fish population. The company created a genetically modified Atlantic salmon as a solution for the problem .The genetically engineered AquAdvantage Atlantic salmon grows twice as fast as regular salmon. In order to get the Atlantic salmon grow twice as fast the received growth hormone into fertilized salmon eggs. This allows them fish to produce year-round. AquAdvantage genetically engineered Atlantic salmon has product been approval by Federal and Drug Administration for human consumption. As a representative for the Center for Food Safety, a U.S. non-profit organization that works to protect the environment and human health. I evaluate elevated the AquaBounty Technologies product of genetically engineered AquAdvantage Atlantic salmon on the criteria healthy for humans, feeding practices, and environmental impact. I determined that Center for Food Safety will promotes repeal of the FDA approval commercialized sell of genetically engineered salmon.
Through the research done to study genetically engineered salmon, it has been provide that it not good for human consumption. In the evaluation of the AquAdvantage genetically engineered Atlantic salmon, I show why Federal and Drug Administration should repeal its approval for human consumption. The flaws show of the product of AquAdvantage Atlantic salmon. Show that the product lack the necessary requirements for human consumption, healthy for humans to consume, good feeding practices, and none or minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, in order to keep genetically engineered salmon off the dinner table the Center for Food Safety has gather group companies that pledged not to purchase or sell genetically engineered salmon. This companies are grocers, restaurants, and seafood distributors. Some the national grocery chains like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Target. In this effort we hope to keep the United States free of harm genetically engineered salmon.
A trip to any supermarket in Canada will reveal nothing out of ordinary, just the usual of array of fresh and packaged goods displayed in an inviting manner to attract customers. Everything appear familiar and reassuring, right? Think again. A closer microscopic inspection discloses something novel, a fundamental revolution in food technology. The technology is genetic engineering (GE), also known as biotechnology. Blue prints (DNA) of agricultural crops are altered and “spliced” with foreign genes to produce transgenic crops. Foods harvested from these agricultural plants are called, genetically modified (GM). Presently, Canada has no consumer notification; GM foods are being slipped to Canada’s foods without any labels or adequate risk assessments. This essay argues that GM foods should be rigorously and independently tested for safety; and, consumers be given the right to choose or reject GM foods through mandatory labels. What is the need for impartial examination of safety of transgenic foods? And why label them? GM foods are not “substantially equivalent” to conventional foods, genetic engineering of agricultural crops is not a mere extension of traditional plant breeding, and finally, there are human health implications associated with it.
After rigorous evaluations of the extensive data submitted by AquaBounty Technologies by the scientists at FDA. FDA says that the genetic engineering is safe for the fish and for consumption as the inserted genes will remain stable over several generations of fish.
Fish and other animals are being genetically modified which means that they could be unhealthy or could lead to huge toxicity cases furthermore they could start to genetically modify other animals like cows. This is an unreasonable decision because the harms are inadequate which could mean there could be much harm like toxicity and allergic reactions which means that GMO is not safe and should not be in the market till all the advantages and disadvantages are figured out.

Our attitudes toward GMO foods range from hostility to indifference. The Controversy Over Genetically Modified Foods The genetic engineering of foods has, in one sense, been in existence for hundreds of years. The first time Gregor Mendel bred different varieties of pea plants to observe the various traits present in their offspring, the concept was born. Today, genetic engineering has developed into one of the most complex and advanced fields of scientific thinking, all the while provoking many questions and acquiring many opponents along the way. While there are compelling arguments presented for each side of the issue, the simple fact is that genetically modified (GM) foods are a reality, especially in the United States, as they are already present in many products that are consumed on a daily basis.

In this day and age Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) have become a topic of large interest in the media. GMOs are defined as an organism whose genetic structure has been altered by incorporating a gene that will express a desirable trait (Dresbach et. al 2013). Often times these traits that are selected are either beneficial to the consumer or producer. Currently, GMOs are being created at a higher rate than ever before and are being used in the foods that we eat. This has created a large amount of debate on local, national, and international levels about the safety of genetically modified foods to human health. There are many angles that have been taken from different groups about this issue. Some believe it is harmful to our health with one source stating that, “mice eating GMO corn had fewer and smaller babies (Jagelio 2013).” Without testing on humans how are we to know these harmful effects aren’t impacting our health and reproduction. Other groups see GMOs as being both beneficial and having no impact on human health. These individuals site that , “Since GMOs were introduced into the food supply almost 20 years ago, there has not been one documented case of any health problem in humans, not even so much as a sniffle, linked to GMOs (Entine 2013).” They have also found GMOs to be beneficial to human health. Dresbach et. al(2013) found, “The biotechnology of gene splicing allows for the opportunity of creating plants that will produce food that is more nutrient dense.” With so many different views that all cite different information about GMO’s impact on human well-being, the question remains how GMOs affect human health?
Consuming foods that have been genetically altered have serious health risks based on research done on rats by The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), an international organization of physicians. Risks include infertility, immune system problems, accelerated aging, disruption of insulin and cholesterol regulation, gastrointestinal problems and organ damage. Genetically modified foods could cross-pollinate with other plants and create an entirely new species. In addition, there is the danger of biotech-resistant weeds and insects evolving. GMO’s have the potential to alter ecosystems in significant ways. Companies are currently engineering salmon, tilapia, carp, and other fish to promote faster growth or to provide resistance to certain diseases. Aquaculture farms are located in oceans and other bodies of water and the fish escape the nets regularly, ecologists worry that genetically modified fish could breed with natural fish.
