Question 6 Throughout these interviews managers expressed many challenges that they face on daily basis. Most of these challenges either involved employees, customers, or maintaining a safe work environment. Most mentions about the challenges of managing employees is keeping them motivated. Some managers that struggle to motivate workers cited the current economic times that restrict them from paying a more enticing wage. Other managers cited that lower level employees just aren’t happy with their job involvement. When it comes to customers, managers seem to have a hard time pleasing many demands. Sometimes this inability to meet customer demands can be linked back to employees being demotivated. Some firms even struggle with keeping a safe work environment because of demotivated workers. Managers emphasize the need for a safe workplace to truly be able maximize a company's’ efficiency and of course keep workers from harm’s way. Major layoffs are a huge deal, and it can have many people fearing for their jobs. As a manager during layoffs, it would be extremely tough to deal with, and possibly make some of those decisions. If your role is to let people go, you need to embrace it and do it the best way possible. If it could possibly be you that is getting laid off, it is certainly important to make your role in the workplace clearly defined for your superiors to see. It is not always easy to embrace, or shake off thoughts about potentially being laid off. Even if you are not directly laid off you can still be affected by things like understaffed workplaces.
