I paced back and forth outside the huge Phantomhive Manor. I had heard many rumours of the manor being haunted but I wasn’t as scared as most. The manor had an eerie feel; inside the windows were pitch black and the manor outside was dimly lit by 5 oil lamps circling the iron fence. The gardens were still beautiful and tame but I guessed that a gardener visited daily. After building up the courage, I slowly pushed open the creaky Iron Gate. I gulped and felt my stomach turn but I figured that I couldn’t turn back now. I walked towards the door and entered. The room was very dark, but could not hide the 2 pairs of hungry, glowing red eyes that were staring right into my soul. “Sebastian, light the candles,” a young, male voice mumbled. “Yes, …show more content…
Meow! I carefully picked the cat up and held it above my lap; I noticed that its eyes seemed familiar, but I wasn’t sure why… And then I gasped once I realised. I dropped the cat onto my lap and it quickly bit me on the hand, in succession I let out a loud, ear piercing scream. My hand began to bleed heavily over me and the floor, it smelt awful. The butler returned and laughed. “Oh dear, what state have you got yourself into? We can’t let our guests look like this,” he smirked once again as he wrapped a cloth around my hand. He grabbed my jaw and forced me to look his face. “Sebastian, eat her soul,” Ciel chuckled madly as he stood at the door. Sebastian smiled widely and nodded, his teeth began to look like razor sharp knifes. He picked me up and held me in his arms like I was a baby. “Look into my eyes Rosemary, you shouldn’t feel a thing.” Suddenly, I began to feel dizzy and a roaring pain went through me. All I could hear was Sebastian and Ciel’s cruel laughter, I tried hard to block out the sounds but it was no use. I started to feel very faint and knew that my soul had almost been fully eaten. I tried to scream but I was too weak to even let out a murmur. Suddenly I felt my body go limp, but it still didn’t stop the ringing sound of laughter in my ears…
How much are you willing to sacrifice for another? Whether they are a family member or a complete stranger. In the novel The Kite Runner Baba was was willing to risk his life when he had stood up and was trying to stop the Russian soldier from rape the young woman as payment for letting them pass through one of the checkpoints. Then there had been Amir it was when he had suffered extreme injuries, nearly losing his life when he had fought Assef, so that he could save Sohrab for the abuse he was suffering from the Taliban. Both Character Baba and Amir were willing to sacrifice themselves for another person, regardless of who they were. Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner, teaches the reader sacrificing your life can lead to another person’s happiness through Baba saving the woman from the Russian soldier and Amir fighting Assef.
Over the years many have stated that the sacrifices the Mirabal sisters undertook in order to achieve social change, was not worth the effort. From a certain perspective, this may be true, since the Mirabal sisters took many risks and sacrifices ranging from Minerva sacrificing her own child, to sacrificing their own lives in an attempt to achieve equality. However, upon an in-depth analysis, one can observe that the brave sacrifices the sisters risked to achieve social change far outweigh the latter.
In the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden both authors develop the main idea of sacrifice for others while expecting nothing in return. Hosseini’s main sacrificial character is Hassan who constantly sacrifices himself for his friend Amir’s relationship with his father and Amir’s comfort. Although Amir is aware of Hassan’s sacrifices he remains distant and cruel while still expecting Hassan to sacrifice more for him. Hayden develops the idea of sacrifice with a father waking early to work for his family who in turn act cold towards him. Both authors further the idea of the sacrifices made with metaphors, anecdotes and, textual evidence.

A review of the house itself suggests that an architectural hierarchy of privacy increases level by level. At first, the house seems to foster romantic sensibilities; intrigued by its architectural connotations, the narrator embarks upon its description immediately--it is the house that she wants to "talk about" (Gilman 11). Together with its landscape, the house is a "most beautiful place" that stands "quite alone . . . well back from the road, quite three miles from the village" (Gilman 11). The estate's grounds, moreover, consist of "hedges and walls and gates that lock" (Gilman 11). As such, the house and its grounds are markedly depicted as mechanisms of confinement--ancestral places situated within a legacy of control and supervision.
Sacrifices are made every day, whether it is sacrificing time for children or the sacrifice of money for a friend who is in need. Many people have several different views of what sacrifices means to them. “It’s not hard to decide what you want your life to be about. What’s hard, she said, is figuring out what you’re willing to give up in order to do the things you really care about” (Niequist, 2013). Sacrifice isn’t always the killing of something, but the giving up of one’s own needs.
I didn’t know where exactly I was going. But I didn’t care. I walked aimlessly in search of shelter, a place where I could seek refuge. Hours went by, and I was losing hope. When out of the corner of my eye, through the distant, dense foliage. I noticed what could have been salvation. I was fatigued and in a feeble state, was I hallucinating? Or was this real? I stumbled through the valley, my eyes fixated on the dwelling ahead. Much to my delight it was very real. I arrived at the cabin and surveyed the surroundings. The shack itself was isolated, old and tattered, as if unattended to for an eternity. I knocked on the door, and suddenly became overwhelmed by a supernatural feeling. I could hear frantic rumbling and murmuring inside, evidently the occupant wasn’t expecting a visitor. I waited a while longer, and finally the door creaked open and I was greeted by three of the utmost repulsive looking creatures I had ever had the displeasure of laying my eyes on. As disgusted as I was, I was in no position to turn away, I needed their help. They welcomed me into their abode and provided me with nourishment and directions on how to return
Lone Survivor is a film based upon a true story, portraying Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell and his team as they perform Operation Red Wing. Lone Survivor rivals the intensity portrayed in both Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down. Though the film has come under its fair share of criticism due to the way things were filmed that went against Navy SEAL protocol. The film does an excellent job depicting Marcus Luttrell’s story while keeping the audience engaged and on the edge of their seat throughout the film.
Sacrifice is giving up something good for something better. For example, people will "sacrifice" a few dollars for the greater good of someone else that needs it. In the novel, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, sacrifice is portrayed in more extreme ways. Yet, throughout the novel, the varied use of sacrifice shows that every situation is worth working towards.

Les Misérables Self-sacrifice is very hard to accomplish because you don’t have to help someone and your life would be much easier without helping other people. If Self-sacrifice is often a difficult act to accomplish. If you were given the chance to sacrifice yourself for others, would you? As the bushes and brush grew more solid I began to ponder. Will I make it through this forest tonight or will I be taken in by the thick of the mystery? Sounds from sluggish foot steps caused a vibration around me that lead me to stop in my place and listen closely. Could this forest be haunted or was I just over exaggerating? I started to get very nervous by this time. “It will be just fine,” I told myself. I am just imagining things. I continued my journey through the forest but negative thoughts were running through my l...
